There is a climate emergency. THIS IS FACT Just because you can't see the impact of it now, you will do within 20 years. The science is based on facts. What the stupid politicians do with the scientific facts is what should be the debate. I am a supporter of farmers, they need far more support from the government and routes to diversify, major changes in farming practices will always have its opponents particularly if the government imposes change without discussion and without the financial support. Humans have farmed cows and sheep for thousands of years, can a farmer on here actually suggest a method to stop farming them without financial loss? A method that generations of family run cattle farmers would be happy with? It's a change that really is difficult, but do farmers have any suggestions rather than ignoring the facts of climate change? Farming needs to change, like the shipping industry, steel industry, automobile industry, mining industry are all doing. In fact all industry have transition plans in place, farming needs to transition, but farmers need to take the lead and come up with solutions to move away from cattle to avoid getting hammered by the government and the climate. As for supermarkets, blimey they make it hard for farmers. Farmers get it from both ends.

I'm a farmer and have started planting fruit trees on verges. Got some local councillors on board but will see if it comes into fruition. Anyone can plant as classed as no mans land between farmers field and 1 metre off highways. If rolled out it would provide free food for people, get their trees planted on land that is not essential for growing crops or giving up local parks. Theres over 313,000 miles of verges. Some areas would not be suitable , eg where trunking for utities are, busy motorways or A roads or where drains are regularly dredged or too close to farmland entrances . It's a small solution and worth lobbying local councils

Also that the sales of EV's is plummeting for obvious reasons. In London they're now building properties telling people that they won't be allowed to have a car. The same is happening in Colchester town centre with the proposed development of one-beds. There will only be space for cycles, 59 of them. They don't appear to have caught up with the property market that is practically stifled due to overpricing, interest rates and the cost-of-living crisis. Start working on an actual tangible alternative plan. Lay out how to feed the population with organic farms. Form an agreement with all the farmers. Set up crowd funding or patreons for them. Actually begin to roll out the plan and ignore the councils. That is the only way to do this. When corporations own the media then protests only help them in the end. Just start implementing an alternative plan. Then let them protest and fight that.

Historically we've been through this before under Joseph Stalin's communism. I refer to the forced collectivisation of farm land in 1930's Soviet Russia. Farmers were forced to pass over their farm land and animals to the state to be run as large collective farms by party members who knew nothing about farming. The result, approximately 15, million men women and children died of starvation. This time we are dealing with green communism. The result will inevitably be the same. Mass starvation and millions, (perhaps billions if executed worldwide), dead. These people, just like the communists back then, are deranged ideologists.

If any supermarket plans to buy up bankrupt farm land to produce their own supplies. Then the public should support farmers by boycotting their stores.
A wise man told me 50 years ago that house developers wait for an area to go derelict or collapse in value, then snap up the land cheap, wait for an upturn in the housing market then build expensive homes.
This farmers fiasco Sounds like history being enacted on the bankrupted farmer.
The new owner of the farm land could make huge profits to finance their project by gaining planning permission and building houses!
