I'm always so impressed by the way you care for the animals. As a child my grandmother said to me regarding pets that I should always keep in mind that although they were just a part of our lives, we were the main focus of theirs. She explained that they don't have school (work), friends, hobbies or other distractions and it would be unfair for us to spend even a day ignoring them. Throughout my life I have tried to always remember that lesson she imparted. I think of that when I see how focused you are on thinking of the daily lives of the animals under your care.

Great video!! I’m getting two budgies in a few weeks, and though I have done plenty of research, I’ve been having issues getting all my facts straight as far as seeds vs parrots due to all of the opinions. This video was very helpful 😊 Just one question about fruits and veggies: is it safe to feed regular fruits and vegetables, or do you need to buy organic? Just wondering because I wasn’t sure if insecticides and stuff on produce can be harmful to birds, especially smaller birds. Thanks! 💜
I don't have birds but I'm a horticulture student and I would definitely buy organic if you can. Birds are so sensitive and sometimes even something that might not hurt us could hurt an animal. Even if it doesn't hurt them at first, some chemicals can build up in an animal's system over time and lead to illness or early death. If you can't buy organic I'd suggest feeding with fruits and veggies that can be washed and peeled to prevent any spray residues from being eaten. Might seem excessive, but it's better to be safe than sorry in my opinion.
I've been looking for the healthiest pellet for my sun conures .... What do you think of Harrison's Organic pellets or Bird Tricks Organic Cold Pressed pellets? I can't decide which would be best for my sun conures (Sol and Luna). In the morning they get chop and evening pellets and sometimes seed( not often). Also is it beneficial for them to get Red Palm Fruit Oil?
Hey Jessi, Most bags of parrot food (seed or pellet) will say to have fresh food available to them at all times. Just wondering what your take is on that? It seems in the video you imply that they only have access to food at breakfast and at dinner, about 6 hours apart, with treats (and periods of a little healthy hunger) in between. I agree with this, but would also feel hesitant leaving my budgies without access to food. Assuming that they do eat their fill at breakfast and dinner, is it okay to not have food available for them at the other times? Or do you still leave something available for them? Thank you! (For everything you do. :))
Joy: "I am not your dancing monkey!" Jessi, if housing and feeding was not an obstacle, what Harry Potter creature would you most like as an animal ambassador?
Hedgehog Paws Hmm... I don’t know about pomegranate specifically, but I know that cores and pits can be very bad for birds. Things like cherries would need the pits removed for example.

Awesome! If you can, may you please answer some questions for me? i have a blue crowned conjure which is now 8 years old. we bought him last year and the lady kept him on a seed mix thing diet(but i want to make a mix like you do!.) for breakfast you put pellets in. for my bird what would be the best brand/ size for him. also for dinner what would be the best brand seed mix for him. thanks so much if you answer!!
Hi, I rescued 5 or 6 year old Indian Ringneck last month. He's had a succession of owners and has either been mistreated or ignored as he's not at all comfortable around people. When I took him off his last owner he attacked the bars whenever she went near the cage. After a week he would accept treats from my hand through the bars of the cage and had stopped squaking in panic whenever I approached the cage. The cage was tiny. I've since encouraged him into a Liberta Cambridge 2nd edition. It took him a few days to feel comfortable enough to come out on his own. He now comes out and has a flies a few laps around the lounge. He absolutely panics whenever I put my hand in his cage to change paper or the water in his bathing dish. I know that it will take some time to develop a bond of trust before working on targeting and eventually stepping up but I'm concerned about getting him to return to his cage at night. A few times he's refused to return to the cage and i've had to sit up all night in a darkened room to make sure he doesn't chew an electrical cable in my absence. Could you point me in the right direction please? I'm determined that the poor wee guy's days of being banded from home to home and mistreatment are over.
Good job making so much progress with him already! I'm so excited for your future together. In this specific case I would recommend having a vet or other experienced bird handler come to your home and having his flight feathers trimmed. I don't think it's cruel if there is a serious reason for it. They will grow back in 6 months and by that time there's a good chance your relationship with him will have progressed to the point that he will step up on you and you can safely return him to his cage at night. By trimming his flight feathers this once you will be giving him a great gift of stress free flight in the future. The most important action to take when his feathers are trimmed is what happens immediately after. Have the vet use a towel to restrain him, don't allow him to see you during this process, once they're done have them place him on the floor in an area where there's nothing to climb, like the kitchen, and remove the towel. You will be there to rescue him from the floor. Most parrots are scared of being on the floor and will do almost anything to get up higher, including stepping onto a hand or arm. Slowly but confidently present your forearm for him to step onto, praise him gently and return him to his cage. By doing this you've established that you are safety. During the next 6 months use a stick to get him to step onto from outside his cage and slowly progress to using your hand. A great way to encourage your relationship with him along is to use the stick to have him step up from somewhere high, place him on the floor and offer your arm or hand for him to step onto from the floor. Always give him a reward when he steps up. The reward could be a treat or it could simply be the safety of his home. You know him best, so you can choose his reward. If you absolutely don't want to trim his flight feathers at all, your other option is to start working on a stick step up behavior. This could take some time, so be prepared for it. Also, parrots can't see in the dark, so if it's completely dark in your home at night you can safely go to sleep during the darkest part of night and set your alarm for sunrise to ensure he doesn't get into trouble or danger if he is left out at night. Good luck and have fun! You're doing great so far!
@@animalwondersmontana thank you so much for such an in depth reply. There's literally no articles online or chapters in the books that I've bought addressing this issue. From your content I can see that you go to the max to ensure the best life for all the animals under your care so I will 100% heed your advice and call around all the vets in the city to find an avian specialist to come out to the house. I'll feel guilty for months but as you say if it means a stress free life for him thereafter then that is all that matters! Thank you again for taking the time out to help me, it's really great of you!
Are the two birds making progress becoming more comfortable next to each other? Do they interact with each other at all, or just agree to be neighbors?
i am smart for writing down all the bird needs and stuff. i really want a bird and im trying to impress/ show my parents that i can take good cear of one.
Do you usually serve the veggies raw, blanched, cooked or how? I am still struggling to get my lovebirds to eat chop - so far they like pellets, seeds and grains, but if I try to mix they will always pick out only what they like (last trick I use was having chop and supplements mixed with a little rice since it's kinda sticky but they know how to pick it out) Should I just make it into porridge? They still like handfed formula (I think)
i am really motivated by your videos and would like to thank you for your precious advice....I carefully noted down the brands you mentioned for the parrot pellets, but i am not clear that what pellets are for whom....like i have green cheek conure and would want to know what type of pellets to feed to him/her. Can you please clarify.
If we have parrots again, can we give them half pellets and half freeze dried blend of veggies for parrots? I know it is more expensive than making them on our own, but in this case we might choose saving time over saving money. Then also mix in a small amount of freeze dried medicinal plant parts for parrots like certain flowers and roots to treat/ prevent minor aliments?
Do you cook yams and sweet potatoes before you give them to the birds? I've heard that they should be cooked. Also, Harrison's and TOPS pellets are good also. My birds love the TOPS pellets.
I did not know I need to feed my cockatiel should eat veggies...I have had him for 21 yrs as a rescue and he seems to be doing fine same with my parakeet. My cockatiel does not like veggie or fruit either ...I just feed him seeds with with other dried vitamin mix in it. Thanks for the info!
They definitely need to be eating fresh produce. While they might be fine, and might live a long life, no fruits and veggies drastically increases their chances of nutritional imbalances, and reduces their lifespan. Some birds can be very picky about produce. Sometimes they prefer it lightly cooked, or warmed up, or chopped. Something I've found that works really well is to blend a wide variety of fruits and veggies, add oats to the mix until it holds shape, mold it into balls, and bake them for about 30 minutes at 250 degrees. I've had great success with this in budgies, cockatiels, macaws, and many birds in between :)
I have a mix that says for cockatiels. Its mostly pellets with a bit of millet and dried veggies. Its fine to feed a Quaker it as a snack right?!They both get fruit and veggies too
I have a question. I know dairy is a no go, but is plant based milk also a bad idea (I ask bc I make myself overnight oats with oats, soy milk or flax milk, chia seeds and water and wanted to know if this is good or bad for my macaw to eat)
Do you build you own macaw toys? I can't find suitable parts for large birds in my favorite bird stores, and I was wondering if you knew a website where I could buy some.
I have one question about the video. You said that you feed the birds their dinner 6 hours after their breakfast. If I feed my cockatiel breakfast around 8 am, I would then feed him again around 2 pm? The reason I ask is because this seems a little early to me. I wouldn’t want him to get hungry before going to sleep. Does anyone have any advice? Is feeding at these times okay? Should I wait longer between meals, or feed breakfast later?
Hey Jessi So. I live in Rio de Janeiro and i have a Turquoise-fronted amazon parrot as well as two cockatiels and two parakeets. In december through march, we experience a very hot summer and, while the aussie birds seems to be fine with the heat, the south american cousin doesn't seem to cope so well. i give them baths weekly, but how can i assure they all will get a more comfortable summer?

I don't have birds but I'm a horticulture student and I would definitely buy organic if you can. Birds are so sensitive and sometimes even something that might not hurt us could hurt an animal. Even if it doesn't hurt them at first, some chemicals can build up in an animal's system over time and lead to illness or early death. If you can't buy organic I'd suggest feeding with fruits and veggies that can be washed and peeled to prevent any spray residues from being eaten. Might seem excessive, but it's better to be safe than sorry in my opinion.
Ash Grace Same! For Christmas! 💛
that game with the parrots even they think its too childish :P
I've been looking for the healthiest pellet for my sun conures .... What do you think of Harrison's Organic pellets or Bird Tricks Organic Cold Pressed pellets? I can't decide which would be best for my sun conures (Sol and Luna). In the morning they get chop and evening pellets and sometimes seed( not often). Also is it beneficial for them to get Red Palm Fruit Oil?
I really like your hanging perches. It makes me think it simulates swaying tree branches in the wild. Can they fly off them if they want to?
This will most definitely help me with my new clients to McCaws. thank you.
Hey Jessi,
Most bags of parrot food (seed or pellet) will say to have fresh food available to them at all times.
Joy: "I am not your dancing monkey!"
Jessi, if housing and feeding was not an obstacle, what Harry Potter creature would you most like as an animal ambassador?
Valdagast
I am very curious about the kind of behavioural enrichment she would recommend for a niffler or a puffskein.
For me, gryphon.
@@ragnkja Or a blast-ended skrewt.
With pomegranates,Do you give them the seeds of the fruit without seeds
Hedgehog Paws Hmm... I don’t know about pomegranate specifically, but I know that cores and pits can be very bad for birds. Things like cherries would need the pits removed for example.
Thank God 🙏 my news anchor family friend Ryan finally found a loyal friend will finally introduce me a larger parrot, last week and I'm now jumping in the air in excited 😅
I just came across your channel and found the meal plan very helpful, thank you. I also love the perches for the macaws and was wondering if you made those or where I may find those. How much time do your Macaws spend on their perches vs in their cages?
Awesome!
If you can, may you please answer some questions for me?
i have a blue crowned conjure which is now 8 years old. we bought him last year and the lady kept him on a seed mix thing diet(but i want to make a mix like you do!.)
for breakfast you put pellets in. for my bird what would be the best brand/ size for him.
also for dinner what would be the best brand seed mix for him.
thanks so much if you answer!!
I love animals And Animal Wonders is the best!
Thank you for the informative video
Elle and the birds has a video on foraging, which is nice.
Aww pretty birdies! They have better diets than I do....including those pellets 😂 (they are all so dang smart!!!🤯)
Hi,
I rescued 5 or 6 year old Indian Ringneck last month.
Joy and scarlet are so funny.
My Cockatiel Miya loves Spinach, sweetcorn, cucumber, kale and SEEDS! 😂🐤
This was awesome, great video :-)
I love you changed your birds are cute too
i am smart for writing down all the bird needs and stuff.
i really want a bird and im trying to impress/ show my parents that i can take good cear of one.
Do birds need to bath every single day? Or how much time?
Thank you the video is awesome
could you do a video on possible injuries a bird could get, how to tell if their injured, and when to take them to the vet?
which pellets do you feed your cockatiel and how big are the pellets and how much veggie should a cockatiel eat.
Do you usually serve the veggies raw, blanched, cooked or how?
I am still struggling to get my lovebirds to eat chop - so far they like pellets, seeds and grains, but if I try to mix they will always pick out only what they like (last trick I use was having chop and supplements mixed with a little rice since it's kinda sticky but they know how to pick it out)
Should I just make it into porridge? They still like handfed formula (I think)
i am really motivated by your videos and would like to thank you for your precious advice....I carefully noted down the brands you mentioned for the parrot pellets, but i am not clear that what pellets are for whom....like i have green cheek conure and would want to know what type of pellets to feed to him/her. Can you please clarify.
are nutriberries good for parakeets for their whole diet (with a little fresh fruits and veggies on the side here and there)?
Its fine to feed a Quaker it as a snack right?!They both get fruit and veggies too
I would feed my birds cold pressed pellets. They have more nutrients than dry pellets.
where can i buy the cage at 4:39 ?
I have a question. I know dairy is a no go, but is plant based milk also a bad idea (I ask bc I make myself overnight oats with oats, soy milk or flax milk, chia seeds and water and wanted to know if this is good or bad for my macaw to eat)
I reed the one and Oanly Ivan it is a great book made me cry a bit but it is a great book really enjoyed it
This is great info thank you so much
The saying “animals are stupid” couldn’t be anymore wrong
Please please can you let me know what seed mix you use to mix with the fruits for dinner
What if I can never find pellets? Is there a substitute?
luv ur vids
thank you
Do you build you own macaw toys? I can't find suitable parts for large birds in my favorite bird stores, and I was wondering if you knew a website where I could buy some.
I have one question about the video. You said that you feed the birds their dinner 6 hours after their breakfast. If I feed my cockatiel breakfast around 8 am, I would then feed him again around 2 pm? The reason I ask is because this seems a little early to me. I wouldn’t want him to get hungry before going to sleep.
Does anyone have any advice? Is feeding at these times okay? Should I wait longer between meals, or feed breakfast later?
Hey Jessi
So.
