    Awesome! on videos --like this one-- that you've included & use text graphics for your messaging & not just audio make the video equally accessible to EVERYONE, regardless of their hearing

    Wow, they really are like half fish, half amphibians! It makes perfect sense that they are brilliant escape artists; it was their ability to venture outside the water that lead to the birth of amphibians. How insanely cool is that!

    • @TheGlynOwen
      @TheGlynOwen 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      also they're only quarrelsome with their own species if kept in an unsuitable tank. The tank needs to have plenty of hiding spaces for all so they don't have to fight over them, or no hiding places at all. if you go for the bare look you can have plenty of bichirs and the make poly piles where they all pile on top of each other

    • @TheGlynOwen
      @TheGlynOwen 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Dave given space they grow quite quickly mine grew from 5" to 12" in 6 months or so. the problem with smaller tanks is that although they may appear healthy they can get stunted very easily

    Is it normal for the delhzi to have the red gills like that?

    • @TheDave333
      @TheDave333  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      When they are young the red external gills are normal. They are red because they contain blood / hemoglobin which is used for the uptake and transfer of oxygen. As they age, the external gills will eventually disappear.

    Quick question is it okay to be feeding worms, cause I heard warms have disease or something and ur suppose to give them medicine or something

    • @TheDave333
      @TheDave333  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard the same thing on the internet, but these are earth worms, not aquatic worms. I have never had a problem with them, and I've been doing it for 25 years or so. I really don't see how a terrestrial invertebrate could cause a disease that would affect an aquatic vertebrate. Diseases are usually very specific as to what type of creatures they affect. How do wild fish survive? I would think that they eat earthworms on a fairly regular basis. However, the risk is yours alone. What works for me, may not work for you. Make sure that whatever earthworms you use are not exposed to toxins such as pesticides and herbicides. Other than that, I figure that you'll be o.k. . . . .

    • @TheDave333
      @TheDave333  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never seen that behavior before. Is it housed with other fish, that might be nipping at it's ext. gills? Another possibility is some sort of external parasite in its gills. Polypterids can develop a type of flatworm known as a Monogenean worm that will grow out of their skin and gills. Look for tiny external worms . . .
      btw, those external gills shouldn't have developed recently, they should have been there when it was born. . . . Best of luck
