Oculus, thank you. Thank you for your consistent effort to produce high quality lore. Your soothing voice and Oculus character are a regular escape from my hectic day. Your videos help me escape my mental health and allow me to focus on my imagination. I’m literally a better scientist because of the relaxation your content brings to my life. Thank you.
I feel the very best thing about Occulus' videos is the use of plausible 41 st millenium idioms; "worth one's starch rations" from this video is a great example, but I also find myself rolling my eyes now whenever anyone in a sci-fi setting uses "area" or "region" when they should, and more importantly would, say "volume."
17:35 "Several of the hive cities were subjected to formal decimation" I love that term "formal decimation" really puts into perspective of the universe that 40k inhabits. The destruction, nah!! the decimation of hive cities are just everyday occurrences like the firing of an employee in our universe.
Could be the classic kind of decimation, which is to execute one tenth of a population. It was a practice sometimes used as a punishment in the Roman legions. A particular legion messes up really really bad? Their commander might decide to punish them by decimation. One in every ten men is selected at random, and the rest who were not chosen must kill their former comrades or face execution themselves.
I can imagine the face of an Administratum employee having to report to the IF captain that they forgot to fill out the 10765th page of Formal Decimation Permission #A37, so they must postpone purging until filing in the correct paperwork for it.
In the face of despair comes a voice from the darkness - sometimes it tells of even greater doom just lingering on the edges of our perception, but always, this voice reminds us that forever will humanity be there, crying out. Until the darkness takes us all.
Imagine you start to unionise at your scriptorum job but then you hear a monotone, heavy voice behind you say " For the emperor, for Dorn" and a bunch of clangs of bolters loading simultaneously
That would be cool, but at most that would be the Adeptus Arbites coming in, Judge Dredd style and all. if not just lower on the rung Enforcers. Astartes are warriors and world-enders. not beatcops. The fists care little for what goes on upon Necromunda.
I love that Oculus is willing to use big words unselfconsciously. I have spent a fair portion of my life being told to talk at a lower grade level, to not use big, fun, interesting words. I come here to hear a reader willing to use the words he reads, as much as anything else.
I like the old Necromunda art. The fun stories in Necromunda are always those on the lowest level. What you remember from play is how Skab and Leotunda from your gang took down four dudes from another gang or how awful it was when the badass fencer Gundrunn was lost in a cave-in.
For me I think of old art like traditional sepia and black&white lo-fi pictures of history. Or even further back when they had to draw for journalism. Still the real news, but vintage.
I send countless thanks to one of the most renowned and cherished scholars in the Imperium: Occulus Imperia. May the Emperor continue to shine his light upon you and your holy work. On a side note, I don’t know much about Necromunda. So I found this video very entertaining.
This when class hours are over and the professor pulls out a cig and says, “anyone wanna know how I learned about the structural threshold of a human forearm?”
I really like this one. I have generally ignored Necromunda lore and info because I assumed it was a little goofy for 40K from the images, but damn I was so wrong. It’s as grim dark as the rest of the universe. Thanks for such a great video and as always I have to say your format role playing as a historian clearly indoctrinated into the imperium puts you in my top 5 40K channels. This is such good work I’m gonna have to support you on Patrion.
Thank you Oculus for giving us lore videos that make us feel like we are apart of the Grimdark universe we love. Keep up the great work and know your fans love you and your work!

I know I've mentioned this in one of your earlier videos, but I love seeing someone make their 40k lore videos with a level of respect and seriousness to the setting. Kudos!
Another interesting entry, Scribe. On one of the recruiting worlds of the Imperial Fists. The fact that the sons of Dorn are so disciplined given where they come from is testament to the geneseed of Dorn.

There was tribes living even way below the Underhive, almost down by the toxic lakes. Ratskins are isolationists who barely know there is an empire out there who sometimes hire themselves out as guides to the feuding gangs.
This is awesome as always, Oculus! Just an observation though: I think narration feels a bit faster on this particular video, maybe due to the editing? I for one like the small pauses here and there. Thanks so much for this content anyway ;__; your voice makes time dissapear for me haha
Frak it, Oculus! Your voice is so soothing that I fell asleep before I could finish the video! What warp sorcery do you use to make your words so relaxing!? (Great job, honestly though XD )
Deputizing gangs was a thing in Necromunda. When the authorities of the Hive really want something gone, they can deputize rival gangs to remove this threat. A mix of bounties and promises of the target gang's territory keep these deputized gangs motivated. You could play an enforcer "gang" in the game. Enforcers are blokes in carapace with shotguns who enforce the will of the current lord Helmawr. They set up fortified station-houses which they only leave in five-man patrols. They are not arbitrators, they are the goons of the Helmawrs. They are also recruited locally, from different hives on the world.

Keeping to in-universe or character statements is difficult and an art.
Region is totally valid in a 3D system, and so is area when used colloquially.
