    This is actually the first song written by the band. Prior to this, the songs were written by their producers. The "fox on the run" is a groupie (fox) that followed (on the run) various bands around that the singer, Brian Connolly, had slept with early in his career. While they never say who, most think he is referring to Pamela Des Barres,a famous groupie in the late 60s early 70s known for sleeping with many many rock stars. When a band learned that Des Barres was there, she was immediately brought back stage because they knew what she was there for "You scream and everyone comes a-runnin...You talk about just every band. But the names you drop are second hand". Connolly ran into her again a few years later, and the years of doing drugs and sleeping with rock stars had taken a toll on her body "...the rest of you is out of place...you looked alright before". He's basically telling her, "You really just need to go hide because you look like shit".

      This is the less-charitable version of the (more general) version I heard over the years, that it was just a song about groupies in general. (Kinda makes me wish I never heard the more-specific version!).

    This was one of those rare `glam rock` bands from the 70's that just so happen to be really good musicians. They put out several bangers. Ballroom Blitz is probably their most famous, Love is Like Oxygen, Little Willie, this song and a few others. I was a big fan of their drummer, Mick Tucker. I love his aggressive style and for the time, he was one of the few that not only *had* a double bass, but used it.

    Yes!!!. Great. This was one the very first British Glam Rock bands from the early 70's and this tune was relased in 1973. There is just one member left, the guitarrist and band leader Andy Scott. Lead singer, Brian Conolly, Bass guitar, Steve Priest and the drummer, one of the most underrated player, Mick Tucker. They`ve a live performance song, in the web, at the Rainbow theatre in London, December 1973, playing the powerfull "Hell Raiser". So don`t miss this one to catch the amazing live performing from this band. Take care, thanks for react to this timeless classic.

    @stevedahlberg8680 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    I swear to God this probably has to be my favorite reaction yet. I'm highly biased, because this is one of my favorite all-time songs. And it's by Sweet, which is one of my favorite all-time bands. Lex, this song means so much to me on a joyous and kinetic and yes still Blue Collar musical level for sure. Therefore, you got into it so much and the way you did the little body stuff and all that, means that you totally totally get it. Even though it came out in the'70s. I think you would be excellent as a front person in a band and I know it seem like there was some mention of you guys were learning to play guitar a while back? But I haven't heard it mentioned lately. But it occurs to me based on not just this but all the ones I've watched, you would actually be a really good drummer. Or a percussionist of some sort. Because you get all of that I can just tell. Maybe you should get some percussion and take a couple lessons. At any rate, I love this song so much and it was so popular at that age, that when we went on our spring break road trip to Fort Lauderdale and around 1980, this made it on to our mixtape for the van of seven guys headed down there. And it was fun for 2 or 3 days and then we got bored with it it was too much. So we went down over to the Gulf side and I'm trying to think of the name of that place, I think it had fort in the title. And then there's a beach just south of there and it was just so much more laid back but still lots of fun to be had. We liked that more. But this was a song that got played a lot so you can tell there's a lot of memories wrapped up in it for me but as a musician, I've always loved it and you should check out their other stuff man this entire album is called desolation Boulevard and it's really fun, but they had another monster hit off of that album which I know for a fact you would love love. I know this for a fact. It's so animated and funny and yet it's really a jam for sure. And it's called Ballroom Blitz at the link below. But yeah this band had already been around for a long time before they had these hits off this album, and one of their first early hits I think was in the late 16 it was called Little Willie and it was still on the radio a lot when I was a kid in the '70s. And then in the late 70s they rolled with the changes and released kind of a disco hit but it was kind of prog rock also love is like oxygen. I think I was in 9th grade when it came out and that was a fantastic song too. This is a band that really just kept evolving and they were really good. Back around this time, of your reaction, they were actually starting to be a part of the new genre called Glam rock. Which essentially David Bowie pioneered.

    "Fox on the Run" is a song by the British band Sweet, first recorded in 1974. It was the first Sweet single written by the band, rather than producers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, and was their 14th single overall. The song became the best charting single in Australia in 1975, with six weeks at number one.
    Two versions were recorded by Sweet. The original version was produced by Mike Chapman in association with Nicky Chinn on the European version of the 1974 album Desolation Boulevard. Sweet also recorded and produced a more pop-oriented version as a 7" single in 1975, which is the more familiar version of the song. The 1975 single version was included on the Capitol Records version of Desolation Boulevard.
    The song's inclusion in the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 led to the song reaching number one on the iTunes Rock Chart in late 2016.
    "Fox" being slang for an attractive woman, the lyrics are apparently about one of the band's groupies;[7] Bomp! called the song "a definitive hard-rock bubblegum record" and "one of the last glitter classics"

    The theme song from my junior high years. Sweet was an excellent band that started off in glam/bubblegum mode and moved on to harder and sometimes even progressive-styled rock. They cultivated an androgynous image during their glam period. Musically they were excellent musicians, especially drummer Mick Tucker. They also had some unique vocal features, such as Brian Connolly singing lead for most of the song, and then bassist Steve Priest singing a line or two. They also used very high falsetto voices for backing vocals - I'd thought for years that it was sped-up vocals on tape, but apparently they could really sing that high - that also added to the androgynous image.

    Per Songfacts in this song, the band is addressing a groupie, who is the "fox on the run." Apparently she's had more than one go with the band, as Brian Connolly sings that she doesn't look the same - probably a bit more worn from her lifestyle. He also makes it clear that he has no interest in hearing her talk and certainly doesn't want to know her name.
    Sweet was produced by the glam rock architects Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn, who also wrote most of their songs, including all of their hits to this point. "Fox On The Run" was written by the band - Brian Connolly, Stephen Priest, Andrew Scott, Michael Tucker - and included on their 1974 album Desolation Boulevard.
    After the album was released, the band parted ways with Chapman and Chinn and produced their own material. Their first effort was a reworking of "Fox On The Run," which was originally helmed by Chapman/Chinn. Defying predictions of disaster, Sweet proved quite capable on their own, and the new version of "Fox," with a bright chorus and bold echo, became a global hit, reaching #2 UK and charting across Europe (it was #1 in Germany, where Sweet was wildly popular). It also became one of the few American hits for the band when it was released in the US as the follow-up to their single "Ballroom Blitz."

    This is it, the first album I ever bought as a kid. I loved "Fox On The Run" so much that I bought the Desolation Boulevard album. Every song was good and still sounds good. I had no concept of Sweet at the time but they were more of a bubble gum pop rock band and this album was their first serious rock album.

Great band.... a lot of great songs. You have to check out "Love is like oxygen", "Set Me Free", and "Action". Very awesome tunes.

      and “Love Is Like Oxygen “, were also Huge hits in North America.
      In Britain, they had other hits as well.

    I’m a huge Sweet(band) fan and Fox on the Run is the greatest song of all time. One of my favorite songs in musical history. But I really love Ace Frehley from KISS(band) interpretation of the intro, in particular. Because he sounds like Brian Connolly the front-man of Sweet(band). It feels really awesome and I think that’s what makes him incredible. Maybe in my eyes he’s technically the best by someone’s snobby standards, but he’s really good at eliciting a pleasurable listening experience. That’s the whole point of Rock n Roll!
