My man Eric. Glad you did made the trip! That was a lot of talk for many years while we did that factory life. Now I'm in that other state and you're across the world lol.
Based... When I get back to PH I'm gonna walk around a lot more. I did most of my walking at the Blvd and the open market. It's just that it was so much fun to hop on the Bike and drive around... I love the Chaos of the traffic. Peace and Love, B Goat
I know he mentioned northern Ohio a couple of times. But his speech sounds very similar to that of my cousins in the Cincinnati area. As for major OEMs in Ohio, I can probably guess a couple of them depending on where he lived in the state. Interest in anime? Not a surprise. Ohio has some decent anime conventions. I like how he has especially stressed having his ducks in order before moving to the Philippines. He sounds like a guy I wouldn’t mind bumping into in the Buckeye State. While I am still on the fence about retirement in the Philippines because of a pre-existing condition I have, I will at least get over to Cebu City and possibly Panglao for a visit. As our friendly Buckeye asserts, you can always go back to where you are from.
I think a visit is a great opportunity to scope out the country and get a sense of what you might enjoy. I think most guys would benefit from a 'discovery trip', as I like to call it because there's no real way to tell if you'll enjoy it or not. The Philippines is a wonderful country for me but even within the country, there's a lot of variation in terms of large cities, small cities, provincial areas, vacation spots, etc. A pre-existing condition is certainly cause for concern and healthcare offerings can vary by city over here.
Even getting some highschool buddies to go to the next city over was tough. I love them, but they can't be part of my team. My team understands that life is richer with risk no matter how the risk turns out. This guy from Ohio gets it.
That's a great point Jim. To your point, there is no risk-free life and I always point out that not taking a risk is the same as taking a risk - you're just taking what you perceive to be the lower risk option but that option can still come with the risk of a boring life.

@EasternDreamer615 almost everything. Just this Sunday, we had a flight booked for 6:30 pm. Ended up leaving about 9pm. Then you have the hest, almost impossible to be outdoor during the day. Then internet. Even in Manila, we paid 3000 peso for 6 hours in s hotel but the wifi didn't work. Even GSM signal, I have some roaming but it is hit and miss, I probably receive half of calls sent my way. Then what exactly do people do , I mean young people in the province? And how do they interact with locals? Cause it is almost impossible for language and cultural reasons. You will say, join other expats. Yes but what would young Americans be talking about with majority expats who are boomers? Then the most critical question: how about career plans, retirement planning, residence visa issues etc etc.
@@EasternDreamer615 this one was a little bit of an unplanned visit, without getting in to many details. We were here last August, toured the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore with my wife and my daughter. Now with an additional kid who is just 8 months old we weren't planning to come this year but something happened and we had to be here or we felt we needed to come. Not sure what u mean by budget but we are kind of comfortable...we generally do not do budget, even for our household or travels, we just try to be sensible in our spending. Hard to actually budget when you travel, especially in the Philippines...just last year our flight to Manila was rescheduled and we had to book ad hoc another flight because otherwise we would miss the connecting flight. Then in Singaporw our daughter fractured her arm just the night before we were meant to fly out. We ended up spending more on hotel, rebooting flights and mostly spending 10k in hospital bills..most of it covered by insurance but we had to pay all in advance and claim later.

Nice one 👍
Thank you Jake!
I’m curious, what was the venue for the interview? It looks like the building was constructed around the tree.
Unfortunately, I can’t share publicly Rego
Interesting interview. He mentioned coding. Wondering what language he's learning and what's the opportunities abroad.

Hey cars, I’ll ask him
Nice guest.
Thank you so much :)
What exactly would a young man do in Dumaguete ? And of all great places in SEA, why would anyone want to settle in this place?
What’s not to enjoy here?

How big was your budget for the trip?
