Coming back to this after hiking Pikes Peak twice with this pack. (Over 52 total miles). This pack is designed like a high performance lightweight technical pack but with tactical additions. It's honestly the only pack that my my specific needs when hiking. I also regularly use this pack on day hunting/hiking trips. I couldn't be happier.
I had already purchased the Ignitor backpack when I saw this review so I was disappointed but also determined to make it work. I have always been happy with 5.11 products but this was a disappointment. I tried every adjustment I could think of with no luck. There were some improvements but the bottom of the pack was still painfully pushing into my back. No matter what I did I couldn't disagree with your conclusion, this pack is uncomfortable. Months later and still determined I revisited the Ignitor. I removed the backplate and wow, it was actually very comfortable. Another perk, it wasn't so lopsided. But that also removed the functionality of the suspension system. I'm fine with that but why buy the pack if one of the main features is disabled? Next, I removed the wire from the backplate then reinserted the backplate into the Ignitor. This can be done without damaging the backplate and can be undone. It actually maintained the suspension system and was flexible enough to avoid jamming into my back. I couldn't believe it. I found my comfort level.
Paul thanks for this tip. I’m gonna try this. I watched this video and STILL bought the pack. It looks good and checked all the boxes for me. 2 minutes into my first hike I realized I made a mistake. Digs into my lower back just as the reviewer described. Excruciating.
I am very happy with this bag!!! Strong, compact, much pockets to organize your stuff, with heavy loads its wears fantastic because the backplate is really stif on the bottom so you can carry the bag good on your hips, the ventilation plate is really strong/ stiff so that when your bag is heavy it still stays away from your back for ventilation, you can build it out with pockets on the outside, my 2 persons Nalo GT is on the outside of the bag, i am using the straps on the bottom. It fits fantastic by me. I am 1,76 and 75 kilo. The point that something hard is in your back (this is the backplate) when walking is something you can take away. Take out the backplate and bends its a little bit outside so that its following the figure of your lower back.
We've been thinking about trying this pack for a while. Don't think we will now. Appreciate for the heads up. Gregory is known for their suspension. My baltoro carries heavy loads comfortably all day.
Love the honesty, Aaron! Don't see that much among gear reviewers these days (well, most at least; the ones I'm subbed to are honest. Some are just out to get money and free gear). Great video as always dude.
Thanks for being honest with the review. This is another review that helps me make my decision. I'm 6'4" and another brand doesn't fit me. I've heard the same for 5.11, although I would really love to own a Rush72. Since I'm tall/long, I'll have to go with an Osprey, Mountansmith, Kelty or Eberlestock. I will only be able to afford one.
That's too bad, I really like the look of that pack. I own and love the RUSH12, 24 and 72 and was hoping to add this pack to the lineup, thanks for saving me the hassle. Hope the family are all well.
Good review, thank you. (I purchased the ignitor before seeing your video.) My issues are; 1. the belt loosens as you walk and even tightening to the absolute max it's still loose and I end up with yards of webbing flapping in the breeze. Indeed the whole belt design feels flimsy. 2. the side and sternum clips also feel too flimsy and look ready to break. 3. the sternum straps on the actual yoke are absurdly thin and I can't see why they didn't include thicker webbing. Again, it feels ready to snap. These three drawbacks make the ignitor seem rather 'rube goldberg' and are serious shortcomings. Like yourself I end using the pack without waist strap or chest strap. For this much money I would have expected something better. Postscript; It's been suggested that this bag is better for shorter people, I'm 5"7" and I also have problems but I have wondered if this pack was aimed at women???
I own one same color like this one I bought it right when it come out last year, and you are right i had to purchase separately rush tier system after all upgrades i did it came out pretty pricey, bit overall for hunting or fishing applications it works really well for me, I'm 6'3 and 245lb and I didn't experience problems you had, I dunno , as someone who test gear and had who knos how many packs there is no reason not to believe you but i also wanna mention that these do come in 2 different sizes, I ordered mine in biger size.
You never get a lot of boom for your buck with 5:11, If you want a carry system for an AR etc look towards Hazard 4 (Overwatch, Plan B/C, Takedown) Good video, your honesty would make you a good prototype tester, An asset to any company,
To solve the problem of purchasing the extra equipment to carry a rifle, just to get the appropriate sized webbing and have your local upholstery shop fold over the bottom piece 6 or 8 in and sew it along the edges to form a pocket for the barrel. Worked for me.
I understand your points and they do have merit, but I think the comfort depends on your body size. I am 5'10" tall and this pack fits me well. I carry quite heavy loads in mine and it is quite comfortable. The key is to tighten the waist belt as much as possible - which isn't easy to do though. Mine kept loosening up. Finally I ended up using electrical tape to wrap up the execs straps on the belt. Now they don't loosen. Now that the belt is tight enough around my waist it supports a good part of the weight. If your belt isn't tight the weight digs down on your shoulders. Once you have that worked out then it is quite comfortable. I love this more and more each time I use it. It is very versatile with all the webbing. I'm able to arrange all the different accessory pouches depending on my trip. One of the things I really like as well is that my back doesn't sweat. The down side of that is the turtle shell curvature restricts the length of your gear if storing it in the main compartment and also has limited capacity. You won't be able to pack a 16-20" hatchet. I love it for fishing because you can carry your rods in place of the rifle and the external flap is perfect for your vest. I have a T.T. dump pouch attached to the bottom that holds my net. It is also perfect for bicycling. The top of the pack is tapered down which allows you to wear a hat with a large brim. The bladder pouch is a very generous size. I made a foam sleeve for my Source 3 Litre bladder and it all fits in there. The thing I hate the most is that the hip pads are always twisting around when taking it off and setting it down. They also flop around and makes it difficult to lay flat. The best thing to do is feed the buckle through the carry handle and lock it. One thing I didn't consider is that if you have fishing rods or a long rifle on your pack your pack cover (not sold with the pack) will not fit over everything (as I discovered while getting caught in a flash rain fall). But overall I really enjoy this pack. I was loading up other packs for yesterday's hike/fishing trip, but ended up using this pack again for it's versatility. I just wish the straps on the bottom of the pack were longer and had snap buckles instead of the fixed sliders. Yes it was rather expensive considering you have to buy the barrel cup separately, but it is simply hard to beat.
I bought this pack before seeing this review I wish I'd of waited. The issues you brought up are totally right the back panel dug right into my back and would hurt even with nothing in. I was gutted because 5.11 as some great gear and this just isn't one of them. However, you can modify the pack with cutting 2 inches off the plastic back panel so it's not digging into your back and then use/buy a condor combat belt and use this as your hip belt. Not happy having to spend more money to correct issues that 5.11 should of done had they of taken their time in construction. I'm about 5"9 and slim, it just about fits me on my back any taller and I think this pack would just be uncomfortable to wear. Hope this helps. Great review, keep up the good work Aaron.
Seriously dude, I'd be curious to hear what you think of Mountain Ridge Gear packs...but I'm sure you have a lot of gear in the queue. Thanks for keeping it real in your videos.
Thanks for review. I love the All Hazards Prime. Best one for my back. You just need to add a molle water bottle holder. Also got the Rapid Excursion Pack for more versatility.
Great review as always. I'm putting of buying a pack till I can get my body back. I have a 46 inch waist right now and that's after losing 35lbs. Hitting the gym and hoping for miracles. Tired of hitting the table with my stomach and not being able to put down the tray table on airplanes or find a pack that would fit around my stomach. I went astray a little here, sorry. Good to know the good the bad and the ugly as Nick would say. I will avoid this one when it comes time to lay out the bucks for one.
Wow. I just wanted to stop by and encourage you. I'm very impressed with your goal to get in shape. I'm not sure how I would be able to follow up with you, but I'm excited for the day that you have a HUGE grin on your face, your airplane tray down, and a backpack with you that fits all your needs! Best regards, Jeremy - Vanquest Team
Hello. I wanted to say thank you for the kind words. That was a much appreciated comment. Thank you for taking the time to write it. Jeremy @ Vanquest Team
Vanquest Gear I think it's funny you guys trolling reviews of the competition. 5.11 makes great cargo pants in colors I can wear to work. only packs I use are milsurp. I can assure you after that loser move I won't be buying your products.
60€generic multicam backpack is still alive after years of abuse (hiking, camping, airsoft), why spending 3 or 4 times if it works same or even better? thanks for honest review :).
It's good to see an honest review of a 5.11 pack. I reviewed the COVERT 18 a couple years ago and it is also an epic fail. And I caught hell for it from the keyboard warriors, but not everything they make is quality. Thanks for the good Intel!
Hey mate, thanks for the honest review. Maybe you (and some of the readers) can help me out: I am currently looking for a backpack with some approximate 60L that is suitable for carrying a winter sleeping bag inside, so with dimensions of at least 25x47cm. The issue I find with most tactical packs is that their depth only goes up to some 20cm, hence making the entire pack bulky when carrying a Mivall or Carinthia. Maybe you folks got some suggestions? Thanks!
Always great to see honest reviews of products. Currently have the 5.11 All Hazards Nitro for day hikes, find it to be super uncomfortable. Have been looking for a replacement, trying to decide between the 5.11 Rush 12/24 or the Vanquest Trident-20. This review might just push me to the Vanquest.
this is why i subscribed to your channel. your comments/views are constructive (apparently in all your videos i watched so far) and said in such a way that 5.11 would not take offense. i guess i did good in subscribing to your channel. keep up the good work. God bless.
???? I have used all the brands I mentioned, and I like all of them. Also about my statement, do Maxpedition and Vanquest not make better packs than 5.11?
Am also 6'2", and have a long torso with shorter legs. Thanks, will stick with my Condor and Mountainsmith packs. They fit me perfectly. It looks like the maximum height of the person would be below 5'9". Send it to Chris in a swap and see what he thinks.
I stop backpacking those type of pack. I had a SOG and another brand years ago and it literally broke my back. Just way too heavy for my use. 5.11 is probably another one of those pack that looks good but not good.
Which one you recommend amongst rush 72 , all hazard prime , Ignitor& AMP 24/72 . Purpose is 1/2 night camping n hiking . Pack sh be able to carry sleeping bag , sleeping pad , tent , cooking pot , food , bushcraft carry , hydration pack , 2 water bottles and a jacket . I am unable to decide . Your help would be appreciated. Thanks
Thanks for the review. Very helpfull for me. What about 5.11 Havoc 30? So far, I've seen some pictures and comercial videos only. But it doesn't look bad at all. Are you going to do some review?
Thanks for the review of that 5.11 backpack. That will be one backpack that I won't be buying until the design is fixed. I hope they have other similar backpacks that function properly. Is there a chance you can do a review on 5.11's large firearm range bag? I would like you here your opinion on it. Thanks. Keep the good reviews coming!
I hope you know that all because it has the ability to carry a rifle doesn’t mean that everybody that has it, needs/wants to carry one. Eberlystock has a wide range of packs like this one and they are well known for there rife carrying ability. But not ever pack comes with a rifle scabbard. Only one or two do.
THANK YOU! Was just looking at my LA Police Gear Magazine and saw this pack, I was interested in it and was about to put it on the gear list. I'll stick with Hazard 4. Take care and thanks for sharing brotha!
Your buddy and dad are funny. Glad you threw that in there. I could def tell that the pack was made for a much smaller person. It looked like it was choking you the whole time.
Are you sure it's not just a sizing issue? Seems to me like the pack is just too small for someone your height. Obviously not all packs will fit all people. Have you had a smaller framed person try the pack? I thought another person mentioned somewhere else in the comments that the pack comes in 2 sizes. Just some observations. Keep the awesome content coming.
Yeah that pack looks a bit funky. Don't like the sternum strap, don't like the main compartments, and looks a bit flimsy for something that's supposed to be a system to hold a rifle. I do have the Rush 24 and 72. They're about mid level comfort, highly durable, but can be a bit heavy due to the construction. Far from perfect but better than this one.
what would you recommend for a budget back pack. I've been looking at the LA police gear ones and been thinking about buying one. I really appreciate you recommendations.
Hey thanks for doing the review on this pack, it was very helpful! I know you talked about the Gregory Z30, but are there any other similarly featured tactical style packs you would recommend as setting up for an overnight bag? I like being able to strap things on the bottom of a pack as well as room for a 3-liter reservoir and 2 water bottle pockets on the sides.
5.11 and Maxpedition are two names that are good quality but cost more than they should. I have the 5.11 messenger bag and I think a cheaper option would be just as effective. Disappointed for sure. Now another 5.11 piece of gear.
Just picked up a Sog seraphim 35L on sale for 160 bucks and id rank it higher then the 5.11 pack... im able to carry an AR or Bolt action style rifle with out having to buy extra parts... Glad i didnt pick up the ignitor
Nice to see a reviewer who bought his own bag and give a honest review. Reviewers often don't want to give negative reviews so they can get more gear or the often played "we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings so we simply don't do reviews that are negative." You have shown a negative review can be given without being a pompous $&@.
Thanks for the comment and responds. It is a must to show both good and bad reviews the trick is doing it without acting like a tool bag. It is hard but important to be honest with every item, you the viewer is way more important then a company.
I have the same problem. I'm 6.2 and I can't adjust any backpack from 5.11 I love 5.11 but I just bought the Eberlestock Phantom G3 and I'm happy ;) greetings from Germany my friend
The only thing I heard you complain about is the fact it doesn't fit you. That Isn't the fault of the pack. The side by side shot of your "good" pack shows it is clearly much taller. You can't put a size 12 foot in a size 10 shoe and then blame the shoe because it doesn't fit. I'd think an "expert" would know one size does not fit all. The only thing you convinced me to stay away from is your channel. Good luck to you.
I can see why you were expecting it to be a great item...the extras needed to make it work and the fact that it isn't a good backpack kill it. Thanks for the review.
Not related to the pack at all, but was that a Denali in the side pocket you pulled out? Now, in relation to the pack, that thing looks terrible and expensive. Not a good combo.
They cost too much and aren't any better than many manufacturers. Currently have Condor and Mountainsmith packs. Can't see the reason to spend more. Plus much of their stuff doesn't fit my body type. There torso length is always shorter than what the specs say they are.
I have some 5.11 stuff. What I have is very good, it just isn't much better than Condor and similar brands which cost a lot less. Has that "I spent more than you did" factor though.
Coming back to this after hiking Pikes Peak twice with this pack. (Over 52 total miles). This pack is designed like a high performance lightweight technical pack but with tactical additions.
I've been through several packs, and Osprey packs really work the best for me. Well made, great features and fit.
I was thinking of picking one of these up on clearance for $70. You just saved me some unnecessary pain and suffering.
Nicolas Benson me too
I love my 5.11 Rush 24. It's amazing.
I have heard good things.
We've been thinking about trying this pack for a while. Don't think we will now. Appreciate for the heads up. Gregory is known for their suspension. My baltoro carries heavy loads comfortably all day.
Nice!!! Glad to help! I love that Gregory I will check that one out.
No problem, the family is doing well!
Good review, thank you. (I purchased the ignitor before seeing your video.)
My issues are;
1. the belt loosens as you walk and even tightening to the absolute max it's still loose and I end up with yards of webbing flapping in the breeze.
No worries
Medical Sign: red cross on white ground, white cross on red ground is the national flag of Switzerland!
Cyril Widmer they come in both. Even in green with white cross. Like many other symbols around the world, the med kit and a nations flag are simular.
@@nbookie no, red cross means red cross for medical! Swiss flag is white cross on red background. One look in google avoids discussions.

It is on the list.
Cool man, you do the best gear reviews, very comprehensive.
+Mormon Family thanks so much!
I have the 5.11 rush 24 pack as a gym/work bag (I work at a gym). I love because of the really big comaprtment and its not uncomfortable.
I like your honest reviews. Thumbs up!
Thanks!
Ditto, only reason I subbed,
+gideonstactical if u don't like the pack do a give away to a lucky subscriber

^^ Another reason Vanquest is the best, not only their products but their "makers" are the best too! I refuse to ever buy anything but Vanquest.

Glad to hear I am not alone, honesty is the best policy.
I paused the video at 2:59 and thought those shoulder straps seemed to be three-fifths narrower than they looked.

I will be reviewing the new trident-20 version next week. Great pack for day hikes if you like the assault pack design.
Porq es incómodo el nitro? Ayúdame porque quiero adquirir el all Hazard Prime q es más grande q el nitro?
this is why i subscribed to your channel. your comments/views are constructive (apparently in all your videos i watched so far) and said in such a way that 5.11 would not take offense. i guess i did good in subscribing to your channel. keep up the good work. God bless.
I feel like Condor, Vanquest and Maxpedition all make better packs!
The fact that you put maxpedition next to Vanquest shows you know very little about packs.
???? I have used all the brands I mentioned, and I like all of them. Also about my statement, do Maxpedition and Vanquest not make better packs than 5.11?

My buddy tried it at 5ft 10in did feel any better on him.
Thanks for the honest review. Try the Eberlestock G1 Little Brother.
Thanks for watching, I will look into it.
I stop backpacking those type of pack. I had a SOG and another brand years ago and it literally broke my back. Just way too heavy for my use. 5.11 is probably another one of those pack that looks good but not good.
So far, the only brands of backpacks I'm interested in are Osprey and Vanquest.
Both great companies
5.11 seems to be perpetually chasing Vanquest and Maxpedition. Good honest review well explained
I would agree, thanks for watching.
We will see what we can do.
Great video. Love the honesty and don't sugar coat it.
Thanks for watching Chris
I hope you know that all because it has the ability to carry a rifle doesn’t mean that everybody that has it, needs/wants to carry one. Eberlystock has a wide range of packs like this one and they are well known for there rife carrying ability. But not ever pack comes with a rifle scabbard. Only one or two do.
Thanks for the vid. I have another idea that could make this pack more comfortable to wear...slip it inside your Gregory Z30?
Haha!
Just go with a eberlestock lodrag x3. Best bag I ever had!
THANK YOU! Was just looking at my LA Police Gear Magazine and saw this pack, I was interested in it and was about to put it on the gear list. I'll stick with Hazard 4. Take care and thanks for sharing brotha!
No problem!
Can you review the Havoc 30? It looks like a good edc bag.
Brutal assessment. But if it is a bad design then it is a bad design. Thanks for the info.
Not brutal but fair
5.11 Tactical Rush back packs are way much better designed and more comfortable to wear. Thanks for a good review!
So what is a pack that is like this but doesn't suck?
Have you tried the tasmanian tiger modular pack 30 or 45?
Your buddy and dad are funny. Glad you threw that in there. I could def tell that the pack was made for a much smaller person. It looked like it was choking you the whole time.
Ya, but I had my 5ft 10in wear it and he hated it to.
+gideonstactical Yikes!!! 👎🏻
Is it mean that this pack is not for person of your size? How about 5ft 7" person? Would it be ok?
Thats a sweet tent you got there, how is it called? (At ~7:00)
Mountainsmith mountain tarp LT. Review coming soon.
gideonstactical thank you sir!
Why is there a Switzerland patch on the backpack?
Try Eberlestock,. almost all of there packs can carry a rifle.
My buddy is 5ft 10in and used it had the same issues. It's a design problem.
Have you ever had any experience with the Tasmanian Tiger packs? Was wondering, if they can be recommended.
Far from perfect but better than this one.
great video, as always, definitely not buying this pack. Looks like the ibex 30 is still the one
is that a MoH AFO Neptune patch on the scabbard?
what would you recommend for a budget back pack. I've been looking at the LA police gear ones and been thinking about buying one. I really appreciate you recommendations.
Hi - what is the 14" fixed blade in the leather sheath at 3'25"? Has that been reviewed?
TIA.
The American Knife Company Denali, review up in a week or two.
That's some nice scales they have for their handles.
Hey thanks for doing the review on this pack, it was very helpful! I know you talked about the Gregory Z30, but are there any other similarly featured tactical style packs you would recommend as setting up for an overnight bag? I like being able to strap things on the bottom of a pack as well as room for a 3-liter reservoir and 2 water bottle pockets on the sides.
its so cool too see a youtuber reply to comments. also great video, very comprehensive!!!
Thanks bro!
Thanks for the honest review.
appreciate the open and candid review
Nice to see a reviewer who bought his own bag and give a honest review. Reviewers often don't want to give negative reviews so they can get more gear or the often played "we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings so we simply don't do reviews that are negative." You have shown a negative review can be given without being a pompous $&@.
Thanks for the comment and responds. It is a must to show both good and bad reviews the trick is doing it without acting like a tool bag. It is hard but important to be honest with every item, you the viewer is way more important then a company.
What do you think of the 511 Rush packs? Do they adjust to a long waisted torso reasonably well?
No sure, have not tested them yet.
It looks like everyone is copying the Arcteryx Khard opening style for the main compartment.
I have the same problem. I'm 6.2 and I can't adjust any backpack from 5.11 I love 5.11 but I just bought the Eberlestock Phantom G3 and I'm happy ;) greetings from Germany my friend
did you review the kelty falcon 66 I like mine let me know thanks
Not yet
Thank you for the honest and complete review :)
sog makes a copy that fits on any of there packs
Two great backpacks, very confortable and cheaper: Karrimor SF30 and Wisport Caracal.
Hey Aaron, can I have the pack? ;) No, for real, please let me have the pack lol!!
I believe he said have not buy lol
Please tell me about the medical pouch that appears in this video.
Look up Vanquest. They make 3 different sizes.
who did your logo and video intro?
sog, maxipenstion, Harzvard 4 . I like 5.11 belts and patches socks and hats never lkied there packs
Thanks for the awesome review, I've always liked 5.11 clothing (when it is on sale) but their packs have never impressed me for the price.
Im about to say the same thing. Size matters. You can lend it to the person that will fit in the pack. Ask him how he feels.
What state do you live in its beautiful
The Rockies!
Been waiting for info like this, at times it seemed too good to be true....
Perhaps 5.11 designed it for smaller males? Just a thought, great video though, very informative.
I can see why you were expecting it to be a great item...the extras needed to make it work and the fact that it isn't a good backpack kill it. Thanks for the review.
No Problem.
Where is this made?
Awesome review great job👍🏻
Thanks Gabe.
Hi nice vid!! Try to get your fingers on a Vorn Deer pack!!
5.11 bags suck bought a SOMS bag and the damm wheel split in 2. Not happy!
Thanks for the honesty!
Great honest review. Thanks.
Not related to the pack at all, but was that a Denali in the side pocket you pulled out? Now, in relation to the pack, that thing looks terrible and expensive. Not a good combo.
It was, it is actually very well balanced
Cool. Been looking at it. I need a large knife to fill in a gap in my system.
Review should be up in a few weeks.
Sweet. Really looking forward to it.
This is really good technical information. I'll stick with Maxpedition.
Thanks for watching
Very detail...i like ur reviews.
Boo 5.11, boo! Great video. I do own several pair of the tac-lite pants and love them but no bags. Thanks for the review
Thanks for watching!
"....5.11 pull your head out of your butt." ahhhahahaha this made the video!!!
there is a reason i don't own anything 5.11
I understand for sure.
What reason is that?
They cost too much and aren't any better than many manufacturers. Currently have Condor and Mountainsmith packs. Can't see the reason to spend more. Plus much of their stuff doesn't fit my body type. There torso length is always shorter than what the specs say they are.
hi
I have some 5.11 stuff. What I have is very good, it just isn't much better than Condor and similar brands which cost a lot less. Has that "I spent more than you did" factor though.
Thanks for the honest review
I would go with Camelbak and Mystery Ranch, far better packs and field tested.
Damn it. I must seen this review before I'd ordered the ignitor. Anyway, thanks a lot for the review. Really helpful
I think you're a little too tall for this pack. I'm exactly 1.7m, so it would likely work for me.
