    1:13:35 - 1:14:21 At first I checked if the playback speed of the video was on 2x, and unfortunately it wasn't. Then I started feeling hypnotized by the insane vortex of notes. Then it was silence, and I saw Petrucci staring into my soul saying "That's the idea" with a calm and warm voice. Then I sold my guitar and decided to become a heroin addict instead of a guitarist.

    I watched this video for the first time about 3 years ago. I Barely understood a word that was said. I heard John talk about how he was classically trained and I thought to myself, that's what I want. I have been in school for guitar since February, almost two and half years later. I thought to myself today I am going to watch this again and see where I stand. I can safely say that today I understood everything John mentions and was able to play along. I may not be fast yet but I will keep on practicing to one day hopefully be able to play fast. I am literally crying while writing this, it means to much to me to be able to comprehend this. Thank you so much @guitar channel for posting this, and Thank you John Petrucci for making this video.

      hey bro, congrats for making it to school!! i have thought this myself aswell, been playing for a bit over year now and seeing little bit of skill developing. i also dream of going to music school to get trained. i wish to see myself in school in three years as you have done, but future is uncertain. one thing is sure, that i want to master the instrument, or atleast be very good at it, maybe even get to play live gigs. school would give amazing foundation for that.
      how has the schooling been? is it everything you dreamed of? worth the struggle? i fear i'm bit late as i'm 28 this year but what the hell, one can get pretty good at 10ish years and i'd be still under 40 at that point. how old are you? i hope you success on your path! cheers :)

    Listening to this is 2021. Its interesting to hear snippets of music from the in between sections that were later used on John’s 2020 solo album Terminal Velocity. Around 44:30 you can hear bits and pieces of the song Gemini

    I just noticed that the licks from 7:06 onwards are what he used for "Gemini" on his latest Terminal Velocity Record 😲 he waited over 25 years before putting it into an actual song. Or he wrote that song already in 1995 and waited so many years to put it on a record 😂

    • @ahogg5960
      @ahogg5960 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I interviewed him on my podcast about this during the Terminal Velocity press cycle and when I asked him about it, he did write that song around 94/95 to use as a piece in guitar clinics. And then when it came time to make this record, he dug it up (he admitted he did watch some videos on TH-cam, maybe even this one, to figure out what he'd done in some sections) and worked on it.

    I remember back in 1998 when I was about to purchase an Ibanez JPM P3 from a guitar store, I also wanted this on VHS which they were selling for $24.99. I asked if they could throw in the VHS for free if I dropped $1,300 on the guitar. The best they could do was to knock off $2 off the VHS if I also bought the guitar at full retail. Assholes, I left and bought a used JPM100, limited to 100, which was miles better.

    Probably takes many years to master at that tempo the part he plays at 23:52 alone.
    I've completely given up on this DVD as a learning method.
    My plan is to learn to play all the techniques gradually through various songs and then maybe for the hell of it one day come back here and have a crack at a couple of exercises to test myself, but I'd never actually use this content to learn anything.
    I see this DVD more as a collection of challenges for the advanced guitarist, than a method for learning guitar. He should have called this DVD "You've been Served"
