      No worry about camera, this video is so valuable. Thanks a lot ! I was just starting a redbubble business, but I bought one of my design and I'm very disappointed, cause it was quite simple design to print... I've been recommanded Spreadshirt and Tostadora. Do you know them, would you recommand ? I'm in Europe (France) I wish as much as I can to buys and sell in Europe and France. Do you know any very good POD website selling in EU ? Thanks again for your work ! Greetings from France

    The print quality is definitely the POD’s fault. There were a couple of designers you mentioned that I know because I am in their circle. They are highly professional and know what they are doing. They have degrees in the design field. Print technology is 101 as soon as you step foot in any design school so I can guarantee you that low quality files were definitely not the issue here. However, it’s worth noting that they’ve built their niches around a style. Like Steven Rhodes’ pulp retro art, that relies heavily on line work and full color solids with halftone shading that makes printing a little more complex relative to a single color design. Most PODs demand RGB files that will never, never, ever in everything that is hell going to translate exactly into CMYK. You’re also not accounting for monitor color calibration that looks extremely different for every individual. Matching colors exactly will never happen with DTG technology because it’s one of the lowest quality technologies in the industry, therefore cheaper. The only way to properly color match is spot coloring and that is only unique to offset printing and very expensive. By its nature, printing will always be dark. CMYK is a subtractive process because you are removing light, opposite to RGB that emits light, therefore it’s additive. And as you know, most e-sellers make their money through multiple channels and accounting a unique print file for every single print provider (that sometimes changes as in Printful!) to compensate for their color process is extremely difficult for any designer. Printful is very big and therefore can afford the better equipment for handling volume + quality. Until there isn’t a fixed standard set by all POD providers and demanded by customer standards, there isn’t going to be any reliability relief in the future.

    Thank you. Nice review video. What I learnt from this video, is design mostly for stickers for Redbubble and that your puppy is supper adorable. I noticed the mug was only one sided, it is a shame most artists don’t take the time to upload special mug files that make it double-sided. I do. I love the fact the Redbubble gives you options to do that too. Have a lovely day.

    I think the print quality will vary depending on your country. RB uses third party printer services available in the location closest to the buyer so they don't really have a consistent set of standards. They might be even using more than one printing company in the bigger countries like the US.

    As a designer doing print on demand with random printers, I could stress that using 'dithered' designs to replicate tones etc, somtimes the colour printers don't pop and you have more control using fewer shades by using dithering to simulate tones.

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. Every single product including the basic white text t-shirt that should have printed fine, all printed with off colors. As I say in the video, while there is a possibility that some files aren't optimised for printing colors, the consistency with this issue shows that there is definitely some form of low quality printing going on.
      I would also expect that if a top seller made that mistake initially, they likely would have fixed up their files at this point.

    The best way to review the print quality on any or all products is to use your own high-quality design & use the same design & quality on all other items, this way you have a standard to go by. By buying different designs from others you do not have this control. ( I have purchased my own designs many times on both mugs, t-shirts, hoodies, notebook & lots of stickers, each time the print is awesome, no blurred edges, super crisp, plus the colour difference is often people design in RGB colour which looks brighter & bolder on a screen, The actual print is created with CMYK profiles which have a colour limitation. My advice is always to design using a CMYK colour profile this way what you see is what you get. | Much Love, Peace & Respect | Stay Safe Ya'll

    Hi! I am a graphic designer working in a printing company. Color issues like the ones you highlight are usually caused by the designer not optimizing the design for print. In fact, Redbubble asks their designers to design their products in RGB so that they will look good on their website, but when printing this is going to be a lottery. In the case of Printful they use a better algorithm than redbubble therefore the result of their impressions are better

    I purchased several mugs from Redbubble as Christmas gifts. Not only did they come late (not sure if that would be on Redbubble or FedEx but they did say it would be arriving on the 21st) but I wasn't really pleased with the print. Similar to your review, I thought the print was a bit blurry.

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not RedBubble's fault it arrived late. Once a package is shipped, it's entirely out of their hands. It's now in the hands of the postal service. A merchant can only give you an estimate provided to them by the postal service. It's not fair to blame them for the postal service delivering your package late. With the extreme weather conditions currently and winter illnesses, there will be transport delays & a lack of staff. However, the print is definitely something you can take issue with. It's them that prints it - not the postal service ;)

    • @markzajac9993
      @markzajac9993 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WholesaleTed Well yes, I agree the responsibility is more on the delivering company and not so much on the printing company but I have been reading a LOT of reviews on Redbubble and it seems that delivery is a top complaint. With that said, if a company says this will be delivered days before Christmas and the item doesn't show, whether it's fair or not, I'm afraid it still becomes a reflection on the Redbubble Brand. So again, with that said, I have a simple solution for RB- just be super honest with your customers so they have realistic expectations when it comes to deliveries, especially around a holiday. That might mean lower sales around the days closer to Christmas ,but it would also mean less disappointed customers as well.

    Although the PNG format provides high-resolution transparency for design uploads, it doesn't support the CMYK colour space.
    As a result, printing in CMYK will have a minuscule amount of colour tint.

    • @WholesaleTed

    Redbubble says they print in CMYK but a lot of artists design in RBG (which is a better range of bright colors). They don't really make it well known and I believe some products are actually printed with a wider range of colors. But this is one reason you see a big difference between the website and products. This was great thanks!

    A reason for fuzzy edges is, most people just do a screen grab and upload a low-resolution image. You have to upload a 300dpi image you created then the printing should not at all have fuzzy edges unless they have a different way of printing.

    I wonder if the difference in color is due to the difference in website visual and real world print.
    If you've ever come across a ghastly website and wondered why they used the colors they did; chances are it looks excellent in print. A design that looks awesome in print however, does not always look as good when it it is applied to website design.

      That's why I say in the video there is a possibility the files may not be optimised for print (as they may be using colors that can't be printed, rgb vs cmyk) but considering these are their top selling products that surely have modified their files to be optimised by now, and literally every product, including the white text t-shirt printed with off colors, this is almost certainly a printing issue. The white for example doesn't show on camera, but it wasn't a true white, it was an off white. That should have printed fine.
      But honestly, the products are so cheap - you can't expect Printful levels of products at RedBubble, it just isn't realistic.

    The print quality on a order I recently places was not good. Color was muted and it was blurry. In addition the size of the sticker I ordered was not anywhere near the stated size. I won't be going back to this site.

    Wow I recently opened a shop on redbubble as recent as a few days ago and everytime I'd researched the quality of the clothing and products I heard nothing but good things and now youtube wants to recommend me the videos talking about all of the terrible quality products so now I feel stunted to either close the first ever shop I've opened online because I don't have the money to print on better clothing or just leave it there and work on something else :((

    Hey , thinking of starting a PoD service using my designs, however when I create products on the PoD market place there is a large number of tshirts to select from. Should I offer all of them or just a select view? I worried that if I offer all of them, people won't be able to choose which one as most of them look the same when going off appearance alone and this may result in the customer not getting any. Analysis paralysis as you say.

    I got a bathbat off printify and I do love it but the cost was insane. They didn't show me the cost to New Zealand before I clicked buy and the process fo buying was....I was expecting it to be like Amazon where it would show shipping cost and I would probably have not bought it when I saw that and translated to it being over nearly $60 NZ dollars for.....a bathmat. :-( It didn't give you time to think you just pressed buy and it was bought without telling you the shipping cost from my memory. But all that being said it is a very very beautiful bathmat.

    Maybe try to make some video's about challenging people's creativity with print on demands. Because while I find a ton of content about print on demand, I lack the idea-making process and end up using placeit, while good it eventually will be watered down.

    Seems RedBubble for these and then use Printiful for tees.

    With regard to colours not being as vibrant as expected, artists need to remember which colour space they are working in. RGB is great for on-screen viewing but when converting for print, they need to check how it looks in CMYK.

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As I said in the video, I don't think this is a file issue, I think it is a RedBubble printing issue, given that it has happened to every singe product I have purchased from RedBubble, it is clearly a print issue, not every artist will be making this mistake, yet every single product has it - so it is RedBubble 🙏

    • @digitaldiorama

    I was doing some comparisons of the top sellers on redbubble. I noticed that because of the bad print quality there seems to be an abundance of "vintage" and "Vintage Distressed" t-shirt designs. Funny thing is that is all the rage for some reason in games like GTA 5 online. It's a clever way around the bad print. Just upload your normal artwork and sell it as Vintage and distressed lol >.< Customers won't be disappointed when they get the product, they will actually be enthused. Here's hoping the trend lasts long enough for me to make enough cash to transition to printify with a shopify store.

    Spent a week uploading on what feels like 1000 designs and just got my first sample shirt from Redbubble and the quality is HORRRIBLE. The shirt itself is whitish/grey and there is a huge faint yellow stain around the logo that extends to the sleeves to several inches below the logo, the black ink on the text is 4 different shades of black and fades in some areas and there are shadows on some of the text. Is this typical!?! Im so aggravated. Have you had this issue or was this a fluke?? If this isnt a good place what other POD has high quality? I spent so much time on my site so im so dissapointed right now

    Hi Sarah, does the mug packaging have any warning signs on them to show delivery drivers to handle carefully? Would of been interesting if you did a drop test. What happens if the mug breaks.... does redbubble replace it or take the money back from you? What about returns too? FEES & PROFITS 🤔

    Does Redbubble do their own printing? Is it possible that they subcontract it via a global network of printers to minimize distribution costs?
