ichiban legit gives me hope because there are people like him in real life. He lost 18 years behind bars. He's essentially a middle aged man with a brain of a 20 year old. And yet, he still keeps embracing life's hardships and moving on and staying possitive and helping others. Ichiban, Kiryu, Saejima, and Majima never use their horrible past history as excuses to be held back or blame others. They can still feel sympathy towards those who objectively have it less worse, but are still going through a hard time.
Ichi is kinda how I try to live my life. No matter what harsh situations I'm in... I always try and bounce back with a smile. Even if I'm screaming on the inside.
The fact that Yakuza games have reused the same map (and often reuse the same minigames) for like 20 years and the series still feel fresh and more innovative than every other AAA games I can think of just shows the level of quality found in the Yakuza/Judgment games
I'm glad people recognise that Yakuza is, very much, a soap opera. I think even the weakest entries have moments of excellent writing and presentation, but to get to those, you often have to wade through hours of telenovela chicanery and all the subtlety of a 70's martial arts flick.

One thing I love about the Yakuza series is how the entire series harkens back to the style and personality of games SEGA made when they were back in their prime. It’s like the whole company port it’s entire identity into one series after they dropped out of the console business.
My favorite part about this series is how the characters age over time throughout the games. Just like DBZ. Seeing Kiryu grow from a young man to an older man. I felt sad and happy seeing little Haruka go from a little innocent girl to a pregnant young woman. Sad because Childhood innocence us only a once in a time thing that we all had. But griwing up is even more important. Seeing the orphans become adults. Majima is touching 60. Ichiban lost 18 years of his life in prison. Saejima lost even more.
And at the same time, how it goes back and forth between serious and wacky like Gintama. I mean, Yakuza Ishin can totally work as a Gintama with both being set in Edo period....
I was genuenly upset when I find out what happened to Haruka in Y6 I wanted my little girl to get a good job and have an actually good life Everytime I see Yuta I act as an angry father in law

Juggling itself began with Judge Eyes too. It’s weird how some of the best stuff is left in a spinoff over a mainline game.
Also Yakuza 3 combat was just a fumble combat wise. If you look at OG yakuza 2 you can see that the combat is extremely fluid and honestly it’s the best out of the OG games

Great video! Watched it all and you described the series perfectly in about 30 minutes. Your story of how you started with the series is really similar with my story: Didn't like the first few hours, gave a second chance after a few weeks, and look where it brought me LOL. After that I started giving second chances to other games that I didn't like, Persona for example. Yakuza franchise is really great, I love making videos of it and I feel like everyone should at least try playing one of the games from start to finish.
The problem with Yakuza games is that the first 30 minutes-1 hour feels so long to new players that people think that’s the entire game. So if you can’t play the first 30 minutes-1 hour you won’t be able to experience the rest of the game, the sub-stories which are absolutely fantastic. The worst sub story is still pretty great, and the best part is that each one will affect you later on. “Oh hey man you helped with my last music video right? Also I heard you’re hiring people for your business?” **Hired Michael Jackson** (This is cannon)
Hey man, great video ! I particularily enjoyed you using the different locales to both show off the game and make your presentation more visually interesting. I am also glad you had a dedicated section for the music. I think video game OSTs are still kind of looked down upon by a large majority of people as something lesser. Series like LaD show that it´s not true at all. Every new release I am most excited by the great soundtracks these games have on offer. The production value on most of them is just incredible, and they tackle so many genres with such finesse. My favorite OST as a whole has to be from Judgement 1, though Lost Judgment has a few tracks that stand above the rest. RGG is currently providing the absolute best gaming has to offer in my mind, everything they make is just so genuine and heartfelt and joyful. I am so excited for the new big RGG announcement coming in a few weeks (hopefully not that leaked mobile title 😭) You should do a video on the Judgment games too. I´d watch it
Same, the story of LAD is one of the best in the series. When I went back to record some footage for it that’s when I realized just how much infinite wealth improved on it
7 is bar none the most fun I’ve ever had playing a Yakuza game when it comes to combat, isn’t even close. It’s a shame the older Yakuza games aren’t turn-based as well. Yakuza brawler combat could cure my insomnia.
@@shlirby8411 Yeah. I started with 7 and it quickly became one of my favourite video games of all time, and after finishing it I couldn’t wait to get to 0, got to it, and the combat (no joke) put me to sleep one time because I was so bored. Turn-based is easily the best for me.
finished 5 last week. i bought 0-5 and for now im taking a break with shenmue 1 and 2 until i decide to either buy 6 or judgement first (judgement is in on sale limbo)
Goodness, bikes were OP in Gaiden. I'm sure it was the same in other games, but if roaming enemies spotted me, I'd often direct them to the nearest set of bikes just to use them. Also, thoughts on Judgement and Lost Judgement?
I was never a big fan of the dragon engine. The physics just felt too floppy in K2 and 6. Gaiden definitely feels tighter now tho so i think the action combat games from here on will feel way better now.
I honestly wasn’t a big fan of it until I played the remastered trilogy. Once I got to 3, I was yearning for it the whole time lol. I can accept the fact that it’s early build jank. And yeah I agree the new dragon engine action games feel perfect, I can’t wait to see what they do with it if they do a judgement 3
@Dylbun or at this point, kiwami 3 would basically make it so the new player experience is locked down since rn 3 is the one game that really kills the momentum in a fresh series playthrough. Would let them fix the combat and add a bit extra side content that follows up on new stuff from 0 and the other kiwami games.
A lot of the Yakuza series feels cheap especially when so many games have so much money dumped into them a lot of things that Yakuza does other studio wouldn’t do. Like the cutscenes being low quality sometimes or the side missions not being voiced or reusing the map. But this is all done to give focus where it is needed to still push out an amazing product compared to so many over budget games that have less to offer than just one Yakuza game. I think Yakuza 3 is the weakest but I would still rather play that game than most other open world games that just have good graphics and nothing else going on.
The writing for the future games doesn't really give me any hope. 8 was already a big drop in writing quality compared to 7. We said already goodbye to Kiryu in 6, then we give him cancer and say goodbye again, to then see a snippet that he lives, cmon, jfc, i'm happy that he lives but you can't do that so many times :D
I think 8 just suffered from trying to balance too many things at once. They wanted to continue ichiban’s story and also end Kiryu’s, leading to some pretty bad pacing. Now that Kiryu is fully out of the picture I think we’ll see a way more focused story in 9
As a fellow fan, I highly suggest playing the original PS2 versions of Yakuza 1 and 2. 1 has a really funny dub, and I genuinely prefer 2 to Kiwami 2. There's also the spin-offs, Judgment, Lost Judgment, and the PSP Kurohyou games, developed by Syn Sophia. TLDR, there's a lot more series for you to enjoy.
I wanted to get to judgement but after this video I’ve got crazy Yakuza burnout lol. I’ll probably get around to those next year along with the original 2 games & dead souls
Interesting. In my opinion the story was one of the only good things about 3, it just needs better pacing and not a chapter literally called “the plot” lol
@Dylbun Yes the story was the only good thing about 3. Everything else kind of sucked. And the first 4 chapters were absolutely awful and miserable. The stupid orphanage missions felt like they were never gonna end. By the time I finally made it to Kamurocho and got to start the actual story my blood was boiling I was getting so angry. I almost gave up on the game and skipped 3 entirely halfway thru chapter 4
@@NullVoid-rm7jmthe start was slow and pretty boring however I’d argue that it was important due to what it would signify for Kiryu as a character over the course for the rest of the entire series
If only the brawler combat was more fun. Loved everything about 7 and everything else about the other games, but the brawler combat was just so boring for me.
FIrst time seeing Yakuza was compilation of the Super Best Friends Play. It got me curious Then Kiwami 1 got free with Ps Plus, and I got to play, and I got into it! Then I bought 0 and... yeah, it hooked me into the franchise. Now, ya boi is a member of the Like a Dragon Family with pride and my favorite part of each game is seeing how Kamurocho changed and evolved with time.
@@Dylbun Seeing the jump from Kamurocho from 0 to Kamurocho from Lost Judgment is also something wild. It legit feels like how Ichiban felt, after coming out of prison and seeing how the city and its people changed after so many years.
I think the only part I disagree with is the sniveling nerd part. If a game is very heavy on story it's fair to criticize story. Never liked the shut up and turn off your brain approach. A particularly strange approach since the rest of the points are laid out fairly eloquently. For instance, I was hoping Park would be the first female villain in the series (the series has a bad habit of treating all women as innocent and never in the wrong as it is). But instead, the game/other characters treat her like a goddess to be revered despite doing some pretty mean and unlawful things. Doesn't make you a condescending dork to point out bad writing.

16:33 oh my god it never clicked for me
Great video!

I am so excited for the new big RGG announcement coming in a few weeks (hopefully not that leaked mobile title 😭)
You should do a video on the Judgment games too. I´d watch it
Thanks for the kind words! I haven’t played judgement yet unfortunately, I plan on it soon!
New sub, thnks for this beatiful video, baka mitai.
Thanks for the sub!
I just beat Ishin and I have no more RGG content to play. It's rough out here, my favourite series in gaming
Nice editing man
Thanks!
If yakuza like a dragon had the refined combat of infinite wealth it would be my favorite in the series not even close to
Same, the story of LAD is one of the best in the series. When I went back to record some footage for it that’s when I realized just how much infinite wealth improved on it
@@Dylbun yeah i like the story of one more but the gameplay of the other waaay more
7 is bar none the most fun I’ve ever had playing a Yakuza game when it comes to combat, isn’t even close.
It’s a shame the older Yakuza games aren’t turn-based as well. Yakuza brawler combat could cure my insomnia.
@@saulgoodmanskin really? I think the real time combat not only is best but just think gaiden has some of the best out there.
Definitely play 6 first imo. I like to get all the mainlines out the way before I play spinoffs
Yes, my favourite release: 6:29 Yakuza: Gayden
So what’s your thoughts on the latest Yakuza game trailer
It looks great! We’re finally getting the Solo Majima game. They’re gonna do what skull and bones tried to do but actually good lol
plz talk about the zombie spin-off and the soon to come pirate majima spin-off too!
I haven't played dead souls unfortunately but I'll definitely be playing Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii!
20:32 Mahjong best minigame
Goodness, bikes were OP in Gaiden. I'm sure it was the same in other games, but if roaming enemies spotted me, I'd often direct them to the nearest set of bikes just to use them.
Also, thoughts on Judgement and Lost Judgement?
bikes in Yakuza > Hydrogen bombs
Yakuza mentioned
Goated game
A lot of the Yakuza series feels cheap especially when so many games have so much money dumped into them a lot of things that Yakuza does other studio wouldn’t do. Like the cutscenes being low quality sometimes or the side missions not being voiced or reusing the map. But this is all done to give focus where it is needed to still push out an amazing product compared to so many over budget games that have less to offer than just one Yakuza game. I think Yakuza 3 is the weakest but I would still rather play that game than most other open world games that just have good graphics and nothing else going on.
Kamurochu is in more games than Kiryu...
As you like >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Any other song
Speaking of yakuza series parodying other franchises, do you think the Majima pirate game is a parody of skull and bones?
Nah RGG are just crazy people that make the wildest shit but somehow make it really good lol
Kiryu is the toughest character in the franchise
Yagami is the coolest and most badass
Ichiban is just the best overall (no pun intended)
The writing for the future games doesn't really give me any hope. 8 was already a big drop in writing quality compared to 7. We said already goodbye to Kiryu in 6, then we give him cancer and say goodbye again, to then see a snippet that he lives, cmon, jfc, i'm happy that he lives but you can't do that so many times :D
I think 8 just suffered from trying to balance too many things at once. They wanted to continue ichiban’s story and also end Kiryu’s, leading to some pretty bad pacing. Now that Kiryu is fully out of the picture I think we’ll see a way more focused story in 9
@@DylbunYeah but he isn’t fully out, they teased he beat cancer 😅
yippie!
@@Dylbun Fair. Once the burnout passes you'll love it
Play 1 with the undub patch the dub is horrible
@@xtr.7662 It's funny
@@dominiccayton8831 its cringe not funny
Good video, you captured what makes the games so fascinating.
Just the pronounciation of Japanese names wasn't always spot on 😅
I figured lol
Gayden
gayden
I thought this channel had to have like 1m subscribers. Only 2k?? This edit is masterpiece
Thank you!!
no way you said "gaiden" as "gayden"😭
it would be "guyden"
I’ve been saying it that way since I was a kid lmao it’s hard to break. I used to say it the same way with Ninja Gaiden
I want Kiwami Dead Souls so phreaking bad. I don't see why they'd do a Kiwami 3. 3 was easily the weakest story of the entire franchise
You mean the fighting style, or the action games in general?
@@Dylbun the action-games in general
Please stop saying nisheee ki
FIrst time seeing Yakuza was compilation of the Super Best Friends Play. It got me curious
Then Kiwami 1 got free with Ps Plus, and I got to play, and I got into it!
Then I bought 0 and... yeah, it hooked me into the franchise.
Now, ya boi is a member of the Like a Dragon Family with pride and my favorite part of each game is seeing how Kamurocho changed and evolved with time.
Kiwami 2 Kamurocho is beautiful man. It’s so interesting seeing it go from the dirty streets in 1 to ultra clean in 2 lol
