Beautiful episode, as always. I enjoy the combination of sailing and the focus on the wild life and the wonders of nature. You sense and display the details in a wonderful way.
I know of no other North-Sailingchannel on youtube, that brings the scenery and the mood of the weather so beautifully, on to our screens.!!🙂👍 Cheers from 🇨🇭
Charming film, yet again 😊. And what a cozy looking yacht for you're family to sail and rest in. Lovely editing and production the music is as always a perfect fit, think that's why so many people watch your family videos. Fair winds folks 🫡😁.
Thank You for the information in this video. It describes the environment up there during winter perfectly. I feel safe in planning my sail and leaving the boat over there somewhere over winter. Love the tone, photography and feel of Your videos too, You're really talented in videomaking. edit: ah, 2:32 a Finnish flag :)
So cool that you captured some Black Grouse courtship behavior on camera! I was doing some research on Koopmans 39s and I ran across the old listing for Free Spirit. I found a listing for another one, this one made out of aluminum. I have zero experience with steel yachts. How do you find maintaining the hull and deck of Free Spirit - do you have to scrape a lot of rust and paint it a lot?
@@kbbarton1 For us the advantages of steel far outweigh the disadvantages. The only disadvantage is steel’s ability to rust. Externally on the deck and hull, rust is easily managed with a good paint system. It is often said that steel boats rust from the inside out. Internally, moisture and condensation are the biggest enemy. A well built steel Dutch yacht, like ours, should have insulation foam sprayed internally all over the steel above the waterline. This effectively stops all moisture from reaching the steel and negates the problem of rust. The bilge and beneath the engine require more vigilance but so far, for us, any rust has been entirely superficial and easily dealt with. Our vessel was well built, is relatively new (year 2000) and was well maintained by the previous owner. We spend a ridiculously small amount of time on rust maintenance considering, but we are not over precious….we are practically minded adventure sailors requiring a low maintenance, kick ass boat that doesn’t have us worrying if we touch a rock or are squeezed against a harbour wall in 40kts of wind.
@@MartinOhm-m3o Thank you. We are all dual nationals (British/German), hence the German flag on our port side to advertise that we are not subject to the post Brexit 90 day rule.
Thank you! We are lucky enough to have European passports, so can’t help you there I’m afraid. Brexit really has messed everything up! 🙄 Wish you the best of luck with it all!
Hi Sophia. I looked into this in early 2020, before Covid really kicked in. Norway was offering a 12 months visa for sailors who wanted to over-winter. It was pricey though; around $750USD per person. As Covid progressed we started to see notices that there would be no refund if visas were cancelled due to the emergency. We didn't take it further. Look for their immigration website and see what the situation is now. And the price! Regards, Rick.
Look forward to your videos. Wondering if, after leaving the boat for a few months, she would have much growth on the bottom & prop. ? Is it too cold up there? Even in winter here, I'm over the side once a month. Would not fancy doing that in Norway.
@@deemacvee1 Many thanks! Not so much the cold as the lack of light. In Tromsø, the sun was pretty much absent throughout the time we were not on board and there had been next to no growth on the hull during this time. Free Spirit has not been out of the water now for over 2 years and we regularly dive to clear her hull - during the summer months the water temperature in Norway is not a problem.

Great cinematography and editing! As a nature lover, I appreciate the identification of different species. Your videos are a gift, thanks!

Love how much beauty of the artic and your narrations harmonize. Makes me want to leave the tropics and sail the arctic regions

So we can experience it ourselves 🤗

I've only just noticed 5k subscribers. That should change.
Please use two halyards when ascending the mast. My main halyard snapped, happily it was only the mains'l that dropped.

Amazing as akways.
Can you advise on how to stay longer that the 3 months in Norway due to Shengin rules ( for us sat post brexit Brits)? thank you

What's the timeline yearwise in this video? You're leaving the boat i Tromsø in November, and sailing south again in March or April?
@@haraldhannelius yes, we left the boat in December and returned at the beginning of March.
