I do computer repair in Field Service. Its for a different company but I'm basically a sub contractor. I hate it, they charge 133 an hour and pay me 30 an hour. And I hate doing field service, I would much rather run my own business, have less overhead and charge less rates, get paid more, and pick up and drop off the computer when its done. Carey is the man. Good for you dude

Thanks Carey for making all these videos on building and repairing computer systems, I really appreciate it. I am currently studying computing at college. It's so nice to see someone like you on TH-cam who is happy to share your knowledge and experiences, with other people with an interest in computer hardware. I have learnt a lot and really enjoy watching your videos, keep up the good work! :) I think I will treat myself to one of those tech benches and an electric screw drivers. :) Matt

@beltdude Some repairs are virus/malware removals and temp file removal, system cleanup and optimization and it would first require screen capture software so it's not really practical. Also, this takes me about 4x longer to fix a system while filming, but I will do it when I can. Glad you enjoyed it!!

I'm 63 and have learned computer repair by reading and doing. It's been about 10 years and I love what I do. I thank you for your videos! Side note: I do repairs in our apartment (we live in a retirement complex) and I don't have the luxury of an outdoors area to blow the bad boy out. There have been instances where roaches have emerged which makes me want to give up this spare-change hobby. What about you? Have insects invaded your work area from customer computers?

I really love your videos, Carey. I'm really into the latest and greatest computer hardware, heck I'll even admit that I have a great gaming machine for myself (which was thanks to your guide, by the way). But these laid-back videos that just go back to the basics...I'm really digging them! So I can't thank you enough for uploading these videos and sharing your experience with us. I've just started building my own pc's 6 months ago, so I'm just barely starting in the pc world!

I've used this similar methodology, but also added some paperwork to it to hand in to my customers with the bill so they can see a checklist of things that I've done, to not only inform them but also eliminate any questions later on. As for system diagnosis I usually try to go down to the board level of individual components AFTER I've did the swapout/new parts/etc... to get it back up and running. To really pin point the problem area in case I encounter something similar down the line.
