Super layout. Great to see an op session and thanks for editing it down! I really enjoyed watching all the moves through the scenery - it really works well. If I may make an observation, (it's not a criticism(!), about a loco sounding the grade crossing warning horn. As I understand it, the final long blast of the horn is supposed to sound continuously from the loco approaching the crossing until it clears the crossing completely. This ensures that road users and pedestrians are made aware that an approaching train poses a real danger. If the horn blast stops before the train is visible and passing over the crossing, it could suggest that there is no longer a danger and that it is "safe" for road users and pedestrians to use the crossing. We don't need to spell out the possible disastrous consequences of that! Thanks for sharing your great layout.
@michaelricks1618 thanks for the advice. I am still getting used to the horn signals and often get them wrong. Always loads to learn. Glad you enjoyed it and hope to do some shorter ops videos again soon
whilst not my favourite thing to do personally, this was so fun to watch and i like the fun you had with showing us the work sheets and wearing your hi-vis!
Cheers mate. Shunting (switching) seems to be a very American thing and features a lot in their modelling. I think it's because their trains are primarily freight whereas ours are predominantly passenger
Excellent video! Tank car handling rules apply to loaded or empty hazmat cars - there needs to be a buffer between the locomotive and the car. Corn syrup isn't hazardous, so you're good. It's hard to remember the horns and bells while focusing on switching. For video production, less horn is better, but that's just my opinion. Again, great job!
Very nice. Great to see ops on the layout. You filled half my commute - if you'd have left the less interesting bits in it would have done for the whole journey. Really enjoyed the video.
Thanks for sharing, this was great to watch. A question I have is about the little white forklift in your lumber scene. Did that come already built or was it a kit? If so, was it difficult to build?
@TheGomes412 many thanks, glad you enjoyed it. The forklift is a Kibri kit, very easy to build, basically clips together. I haven't painted it yet, that is a job for another time.
@@thebritishrailroader just to be clear, I am just giving you a hard time. Don’t leave ahead of schedule has been beat into my brain from TT&TO ops sessions.

This must be so satisfying to have an "official" operating session! I love the conductor/brakeman on the end platform of the locomotive. Bravo!
Thank you my friend. It was great fun

Great session Steve
Thanks mate 👍
Nice video. If anything goes wrong when I'm switching, I just say it's the new guys first day switching on his own. 😃
Cheers. I need to remember that 😅

Thanks for the feedback. I chose corn syrup as at worst, you would only get sticky 😉

Isn’t the first ops session very exciting!!
It is indeed. I have done bits but this is the first full session
@@thebritishrailroaderwhat gave you permission to leave at 8:58 instead of 9am?

@HumancityJunction that's OK mate, I'm a Brit, I can take some ribbing 😉😆. Still so much to learn about US rail ops.
