This is at least my 6th time watching this entire series since I first saw it in late December of last year and I just can’t get enough of it!! You and your team do an amazing job of portraying the life of Bach!!

I only stumbled upon this most intriguing and addictive channel a few days ago, and have found this account of J.S. Bach's life and times informative, entertaining and accurate. It's like one of those books that, once one starts to read, just can't put down. I immediately shared the link to my international social media choir group, where it has attracted much attention. We are all looking forward to episode twenty with great anticipation. I can't thank you enough for the diligent work you have put into this masterpiece. Ich bin sicher, Sebbi wäre beeindruckt. 👏👏👏

I can't thank you enough for your kind words and for sharing my work. I don't know if it's all that accurate and sometimes I twist the facts a little to make the story more interesting for the average audience. Though it makes me very happy to know that you find it almost addictive to watch because that means that I've achieved my goal, i.e. to bring Bach a bit closer to the people. Thank you very, very much!

I found this by accident many hours ago and can't quit. I love that I see when in his life and under what circumstances he wrote his pieces. I see that I knew nothing of Bach. I had no idea that he wrote this last piece under so lugubrious conditions. The part with the orphans got me to the heart. I concur with the comment below from johnbron9588 "It's like one of those books that, once one starts to read, just can't put down."... I have known his music all my life, and yet, no I did not. His story goes with it.

Every music piece should be considered in the light of what drove the composer to write it. Mozart's Don Giovanni or Schubert's 10th... The music I used with the orphans is actually a bit older and comes from WTK1. I just wanted to show that these poor boys had one light in their lives... every day they could hear Bach himself play.

I have devoured this series over the last two days. I fell in love with the story, but also the characters, the dialogues and the beautiful locations. You can see the desire to improve and the incredible progress in each episode. Thank you for making this, Peter. You will be remembered!

Oh... what a beautiful comment! Now I truly am speechless... What you describe is more than any content creator could ever wish for and I'm so thrilled that you appreciate the work and the very steep learning curve I have to go through every day with animation. Thank you, with all of my heart! I'm currently working on the final scene of ep. 20 so just a little bit more patience... 😊

I tried to make my friends see this but it seems animation prejudice prevail. This is going some day to be recognized as it should. Great work ! I had no idea his life sucked as much as mine, even at the top of his glory. It seems all creator go through this. Passion is the only reason we go forward, the only force strong enough to plow aside the sludge and shine anyway, at great personal cost.

You're absolutely right. It's ironic that most famous composers had miserable lives and the ones who were rich and famous back then are now mostly forgotten.

Another well told page of the Bach story. History won't record the life of his hapless former patron and dreamer Leo of Köthen beyond this time point of course! Terrific work Peter.

Well done, Peter! Another great episode. I really really like how realistically you paint Bach and his family, and their move to Leipzig. I think you add a humanization to Bach which is often overlooked; sometimes he is deified when he was just an another human being. I love too how you chose the E flat minor prelude for the fitting scene, all alone in the dark.

    • @BachTheAnimatedSeries
      @BachTheAnimatedSeries  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you so much for your kind words, Mitch! Yes, I really try to show Bach as the ordinary man he was, with his genius but also with his weaknesses and the hardships circumstances forced upon him. Perhaps I've twisted the facts here or there in order to enhance the drama or to make the story more exciting to watch, though I hope that people appreciate how I portrayed him. Such a lovely comment from a person who knows Bach so well such as you, is all I ever hoped to achieve. Thank you once again!

Thank you very much. I'm sorry, but it's always months of work. This episode wasn't particularly long but it was extremely tedious because there were so many "puppets" to draw and animate (classroom, orchestra etc...). Now onto the next. :-) Cheers from Italy!

Good evening , Mr . Peter Fielding ! Episode 19 ... I watched again and again , to capture all the details ...what a special gift for me , especially since yesterday I cellebrated 338 years since the birth of the Great Master Bach ! Once again I pay tribute to the wonderful way of capturing the life of man Bach with its brighter or less luminous parts ...In this episode , Bach - the teacher with his students - amazed us . . . And how beautifuly his integral character is outlined in everything he says , he does , how he says it , how he does , how he composes ...an extremely successful picture of everything we all imagine about Bach while listening to his wonderful music !!! I like that you attributed yourself to Sebastian from your facial features , mr. Peter ! It ' s something so deep and sensitive for those who observet it ! Conclude bringing the warmerst and chosen price for the huge work behind this project !
May the echoes of our hearts be rewardede forever !!!

Dear Alexandru, as always, your comments are a joy to read. It's great to know that you appreciate my work so much and that you agree with the way I portray Bach... a man who created the most heavenly music but who wasn't free of flaws as well... an ordinary man with an extraordinary talent. Yes, he looks a bit like me because I need a model to accurately draw all the facial expressions and angles and looking in the mirror is the easiest way to do this. 🤣 Cheers, my friend. You've made me very happy. 😊

    BRAVO, BRAVO
however, I believe I am earlier running out of new compliments compared to you running out of new style elements. What a cool new episode. I love the way, how you embedded the former St. Thomas School in this part. Those who have read about Bach’s feelings about his new working place in Leipzig just feel, how unhappy the whole family was with it … and you transferred that to perfection. The mold, Ernesti … you get a feeling, what was one of the reasons to write this famous letter to his friend Erdmann, later.
I also saw the number of your subscribers and I am happy to see them grow and grow. Plus, the audio part: You just realize, how much love lies in every section, that you release. You can hardly believe, that you are responsible for all that.
Thanks so much, HAPPY EASTER starting tomorrow and please say hello to Barbara, from Renate and from me

Thank you so very much for your kind words, Peter. Yes, I put a lot of love and care in my work and I'm especially happy that you, being such an expert, agree with the way I portray Bach's life. Sometimes I take a few artistic liberties to make the story more compelling, but in the end Bach's life was quite dramatic and the story will become sadder and sadder. Watch out for episode 20... fireworks guaranteed! 😆 Cheers!

Sorry if I really am 2 weeks late at watching this episode, but hey, at least I watched it just today. I dunno if it really was normal at the time, but... well, hmmm... how can I say it?... Well, was conformism really so normal at the times of Bach? Well, ok, sorry if I ask stupid questions, now I remember that times were not so better and that people had lesser options and that authotitarianism from people in power was really more acceptable than now... It's sad, but straight-up true.
I know that marriages have conflicts and that's inevitable, yeah, and, however, I was afraid that Bach was going to be more authotitarian to her wife, because that would contradict what people who know about Bach's life say that Bach's second marriage was a really happy one and marriages where a husband or a wife is very more authoritarian is not a happy one... I think I can say this, because my mom was an authoritarian being and when I was 13 my mom divorced my dad. Many stuff happened with my mom and fortunately my mom improved as a person (but still she has flaws), but that's another story and it doesn't have to do with what I'm commenting. The point is that I was kinda relieved when, in other scene, his wife told him sarcastically "then write a terrible cantata, they're going to love it here" and Bach didn't say anything, because what his wife said combinated with her sarcasm had actually a point.
I know religious people can be different, but... Wasn't Bach a very religious man in his life? How could he complain about certain religious musical commissions and call those commissions "terrible"? I don't know if this is really historically correct, but... I don't know... Isn't it that a religious man receives a religious assignment of any kind with contentment because it is that he is going to do something for his own religion?
Sorry if I can be ignorant. I'm still learning about stuff. I hope you can understand me. Thank you for reading this. Greetings and good night from Lima, Peru.

Hello JM and thank you very much for your comment! You made a few interesting topics for discussion and I'll try to give you my opinion here so you'll understand why I portrayed Bach in this particular way. In those days, your superior had absolute power over you and their authority could not be questioned. As a musician, you were a servant to your master and even as we reach the Age of Enlightenment and Bach's former boss Prince Leo must have had a very friendly relationship with Bach (he was also much younger), this was very exceptional. Bach was actually very lucky that the Duke of Weimar only threw him in prison for a month, because only a couple of years earlier the same Duke had had a violinist hanged because he wanted to leave the Duke's court!
About Bach's second marriage, yes, the two were probably very happy and very much in love, but I'm pretty sure that their arrival in Leipzig wasn't so happy. Losing 3/4 of their income, having to live in a small flat that was in a very bad shape and with mould everywhere... it certainly wasn't what they were used to in Köthen. Moreover, in Leipzig AM wasn't allowed to perform music in public so she was out of a job and confined at home. Even happy marriages have their bad moments and my imagination leads me to believe that this "adjustment" to their new situation must have been one of them. On top of that, Bach's children of his first marriage almost certainly didn't like AM, as proves the fact that they all left her to rot after Bach died. She was merely 21, not much older than Dotty and they probably saw her as a gold-digger, certaiy not as their new "mother". I believe that also this must have created a lot of tensions on the household. Bear in mind that in the 18th century, and specifically in a puritan place like Saxony, a woman was considered almost the "property" of her husband, so in a sense I'm portraying Bach as very modern because many men in the day wouldn't have accepted a woman so openly challenging their authority, or they would have beaten or even flogged her. Bach at least listens to what AM thinks and in the end he doesn't get violent. The "terrible" comment, was not about religion as such, but about those lyrics "Heart and mouth and deed and life". If you look into the lyrics of many Bach cantatas... well, they're actually quite terrible! So Bach's comment was more in the sense like: "Oh dear, how am I going to make a decent cantata with such terrible lyrics?" And it'll get much, much worse. But that'll be for future episodes. 😆 I hope that this clarifies why I made the episode this way, though I very much look forward to hearing your opinion.
