I started a 5 yr Hobonichi in 2017 the year my husband was diagnosed with brain cancer and it went thru his treatments and now 5 yrs later (22) he defied all Dr.'s and is still alive and they can't explain it other than his cancer is dormant. I wrote this in my Hobo and it is our story and this year we will celebrate our 50th year together and all of this is in my 5 yr Hobo, "Just Saying" it is better than anything else to help me thru this journey. Thanks for Sharing.and you'll be amazed at what you forget.

We do a cash envelope system in a way. For some things we just keep a notecard in the envelope with a tally of money available e (ours is mostly for debt payoff). We keep any actual cash stored in the envelopes inside a fireproof box.

Great video! I also recently purchased the LT Five Year Journal. I think I’m really going to enjoy it. Thank you for all the wonderful ideas!

I watched a video of someone using personal size binders for their cash stuffing. It would make me nervous to have a bunch of cash at home. Even though I have a fire safe box.
    I've been considering a 5 year journal.

Haha I am always afraid I'll end up writing down the page instead of across in my Paperblanks 5-year journals!! Can totally relate 😅

I feel the same about cash envelopes. My hope is to have some expenses in cash (pet food, eating out) but the rest in my planner as a checkbook register. That way I can swap money on paper vs transfer it to accounts. It makes me dependent on paper or a spreadsheet and forces me to be more accurate in my logging. You could use Quicken or something for the same process. Categorize funds as sinking funds or whatever. I look forward to what you decide. It’s a struggle for me too.

Great video, Sylvia! The 5-Year Diary I just completed covers: 2008; 2009; the first half of 2010; the second half of 2019; 2020; and - FINALLY - 2021. It was a long haul to the end of the line, and though it’s interesting to look back on the same date over the years, I felt like its indentured servant. My only rule for 2022 was “no more 5-year diaries.” But guess what I found while doing a deep clean at home the other day? An unused, mint condition, vintage 5-year diary for 1954-1958. An EBay purchase I presume. Y’all know the rest of this story. Here we go again...

Indentured servant! 😂 That’s a great line! I can see that.

I do a cash system but I use Capital One 360 where I keep my sinking funds, I just have different savings accounts set up. I used to use PayPal Goals but then they took it down so that's when I switched to the capital one 360. Hope this helps!

I’m okay with money in the house as long as it’s secured in a fire proof safe.

Cash envelope systems are not for me either. I don’t like having a lot of cash on me and most of my bills are paid by credit card anyway - which is paid off in full on the due date. However, you can set up a similar system using a spreadsheet or a notebook ruled into columns (how I started more than 30 years ago). Each column represents an envelope with money going in and out based on your pay days and when you pay your bills. The money stays in your bank account but is allocated on paper to meet your commitments.
