I've tried and failed several times to keep a journal until the beginning of 2022 when I got a Hobonichi 5-Year for Christmas, at that point I had been learning Scottish Gaelic for around 4 months and decided to make the journal specifically in Gaelic (or at least the best Gaelic I could manage at the time!) That's actually been what keeps me writing every day, even when nothing particularly exciting has happened I can practice describing the weather and simple sentences about what I did. I'm finishing up my second year in the journal right now and it's fun to see how my writing has improved and my vocabulary is growing. Occasionally I will want to write about something that I can't express in Gaelic yet, or there will be a gap in my vocabulary, so I switch pen colors when I switch languages. It also makes it really funny when I've got an entry in almost 100% Gaelic, written with a broad-nibbed pen in Uncial script and suddently you see in red ink "TACO BELL".

One of the things I've been learning about from "How to ADHD" is to make things easier to do by having things at "the point of performance" I'm pretty sure you putting your 5yr journal next to your bed is a point of performance hack. I really like this idea. I think I might put a notebook on my bedside table too. Anything that makes things easier to do is a good thing.

I made my own five year journal like this, but I started it in mid-september because I wanted it to span from my 25th birthday to my 30th birthday - so I guess it's more like a five year and a day journal, lol. It just seemed like a more meaningful time break to me than the start of the year so the things captured in my entries will feel more like they cover a specific time of my life.

For anyone without the patience to do this one’s self like me, Midori makes 3 and 5 year planners just like this with no prompts, just a little bit of open space. I started mine just over a year ago and it’s been fun to see the entries now!

I am finishing a (pre-printed) 5 year journal on Dec 31 and am crazy proud of myself for having an entry for every single day. A fun endeavor for sure but I'm also quite ready for it to be complete 😅

I’m about to finish Year 2 in a very simple 5-yr journal I got from Amazon. It only has a few short blank lines for each day so very little space to fill. I find if there are extra days to fill, it can be fun to look up & add in a quotation about the month or season or a theme I’m reflecting on like perseverance, courage, etc. I think those things are fun to look back on in the future. I also started sprinkling in a few things that might just be interesting for nostalgia like how much it cost to fill up my car’s gas tank or where/who/cost to get my haircut, etc. Anyhow, fun video & best wishes for your next year!

2024 will be my third year in the 5 year hobonichi and I can’t quite believe I have made it this far! I have quite a few missing entries but that has been a good exercise to combat my perfectionism. I love re reading the entries and while I totally get the short bullet style you have chosen (would probably have done the same thing if I had seen this video in Jan 2022) having longer entries means I do pretty much remember every day with the added context. The journal lives on my bedside table, total game changer in getting it filled!

I set my Five Year Journal up shortly after your set up video came out. I already use a line a day in my daily journal, so for this one I used your preprinted prompts. I don't always record the prompt every day, some times it takes a few days before I record my answers. I appreciate the space to see the growth over the next five years.

I'm still just as intriqued by the concept of a five year journal as I was last year when you set yours up initially. Still, I feel like I'm capturing the type of information I would put into one in my daily bujo already, so at the time I don't feel the need for setting up one for myself, but I will keep it in mind in the future when my life eventually gets too hectic to do journalling in my daily bujo.

It was your 5 year set up journal which got me back into journalling! I had a previous 5 year pre-printed one but I’d stopped using it - it was too full of constant covid memories. So I set up my own in a notebook I already had - it’s a 3 year one with pages to at the back to add mini photos, tickets etc etc 🧡 I love the flexibility of having made my own - so thank you for the inspo!!!

I made a similar 5 year journal with the zig dot markers. They really simplified the process! I made a month title page then just used a small dot in the center of each of the following pages for the date. Also used the markers to make 4 horizontal dots in a row (for each year) down the left. Maybe the fact that you created it how you wanted it helped you use it this year! 👏🏻

I started a pre-printed 5 year journal this year and I'm super excited to see what it looks like when I'm done! It was interesting to see how you made yours by hand and it really teaches such a valuable lesson that what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for someone else. I'm not sure I could have gotten through setting one up by hand, so pre-printed is perfect for me :D

I was inspired by your 5 year journal set up and I decided to set up a 10 year journal! My twist on your idea was to add to the journal once each week of the year using some of the prompts you posted. I used three different prompts each week and I tried not to repeat any throughout the year, so I do cover a lot of ground. I cannot believe that I actually have kept up with it all year. [I do include: POST IN 10Yr Journal AS PART OF MY WEEKLY RESET]. Since I started mine on January 1, 2023 I'll soon be adding my second year of entries. I can't believe that there will be any huge changes but it will be fun to see how my life evolves over the ten years.....THANK YOU FOR THE INSPIRATION.

I have found the use for me old L1917 I was going to use for my daily journal before I found Archer and Olive. I also watched your set up video from last year which was great.
When I first started watching, I didn't think this was for me, but then thought for much fun it would be too also capture a 5 years of my kids growing up. It won't be all about them, but I thought it would be amazing, 5 years from now, to remember past concerts and other achievements.
Edit: I'm also going to print out your prompts for last year and keep it in the pocket. Then if there's a day I can't think of anything I'll pull out the prompt

❤ nice! My 4 year journal hasn't really worked out. Setting it up was a problem in and of itself already. Not finishing it until well into 2023. And doing some of the first pages wrong as well. And after doing all that work... I just... didn't use it as much.
I like the tip of putting it on a nightstand. That might help. It is currently very hidden... in my lap table that I use daily. Thought it was a good place as I use that thing so much. Turns out it wasn't 😂

Oooh I love this! I'm trying out a pre-printed journal/planner this year for my "everyday journal" (purely to try & save time) that still has some "extra" things to try & keep it interesting (but we'll see)! I bought a new dot grid journal as well too though to use for a few long term collection stuff, & now I want to see if I can add something along this line in it too! But I don't want to set up a whole journal in case I won't use it, so maybe a 2-3 year one instead! 👀

Seeing you make your own journal inspired me to make my own, only I plan to make mine a 3-year health and wellness journal. Which leads me to a question, if you don’t mind offering some of your insight! I want to include trackers in mine to track my progress in the areas of daily exercise across 3 years but I am not sure how best to set them up to be able to compare progress. I want to to track daily physical activity/exercise in one type of tracker. My measurements, weight, and steps in another, as well as mood. I am just not sure the best way to set up the trackers (monthly, quarterly, or yearly) to be able to compare results across the years. For example, do I track mood as Year in pixels (one for each year) or have a January mood tracker, each year getting their own column? Suggestions? I am using a 540 page grid journal, so I will have several pages beyond the 366 pages I will use for daily entries.

Hey, love your content. You've been making me want to make my own bullet journal because I cannot find a planner/journal tp upkeep too. That said could you give a product comparison video? Like compare a cheap/ affordable journal verse A&E's journal -or- even a criteria list of what you look at when deciding your next journal... I don't have a lot of money and I am to frugal to stick to a 30$/USD book and with some of the books I have seen you use, it seems like you don't stick with one specific brand and I would like your input/suggestions.

I see videos like these and I want to make my own 5 year journal as well (because like you, pre-printed would simply not work for me, especially ones with those silly prompts). But then I wonder is there a point for someone like me, who already writes in a normal journal more or less every day? I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.

    • @JashiiCorrin
      @JashiiCorrin  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I’d say it depends on the reason behind each of them. I wanted to have my 5 year journal as a way to capture little moments, wins, and challenges that I experience over a 5 year period in a way to track/see how things have changed (in the day to day, I often feel stagnant and like nothing is happening, so I wanted to challenge that notion). I also don’t often record those things in my daily logs though, so there’s only an occasional double up between my other planners and this 5 year journal. If you already have another journal that is filling that purpose of having a place to write down those little wins and memories and whatnot, then a 5 year journal might not be needed, no 😊💜
