    We need a stat of how many bocks are then recovered by SA because he has certainly created a boatload of them. Many appear to be turned into transition buckets including 3s. I forgot which team it was against, but a guy was on a fast break with a clear path to the basket with Wemby trailing. He decided against the layup when he was under the rim and curled around at the baseline, then passed it to another slashing player who ALSO decided against a layup and curled around at the baseline 😂. He singlehandedly made them not even try to score on a 2-on-1. It was like a cartoon.

    What was t mentioned but should be stressed, per Bill Russell’s quintessential defensive practice, is don’t just block the shot: come up with the possession (as opposed to the “dramatic” swat out-of-bounds which gives the opponent another chance at the hoop). Wemby seems to be channeling Russ in that when he goes for the block, he is really after the ball!

    • @j-rey-
      @j-rey- 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Good commentary. I bet there’s a few better one on one big man defenders ( like a Gobert, AD ), and better perimeter defenders (who? Lol), but his archetype is perfect for the new nba. His ability to both be an absolute menace around the rim, bother passing lanes and kickstart the offence, as well as his insane reach to bother and block 3 pointers. The whole package would be, in my opinion, the best mix to have for an all around defender.
    Also he is really good at not jumping too early on fakes. Pretty impressive for such a young guy.
