  • Tourniquet Basics - SIX ECHO
    Tourniquets are vital tools to be able to stop arterial bleeds. Arteries have pressure in them since they come right from the heart which is the pump of the blood (cardiovascular) system. The arteries take a lot of pressure to occlude especially when they are surrounded by lots of tissue and muscle. To get the needed compression to occlude these, we need to use a tourniquet that is at least 1” wide but preferably 1.5”-2” wide. This compresses the tissue together rather than tearing through the tissue. The CAT and SOF-T tourniquets are two of the more popular tourniquets our there and certainly the ones we would recommend to carry.
    If you find yourself having to improvise a tourniquet, you will want to make sure the tourniquet is at least 1” wide and use a stick or trauma shears as a windlass to twist the makeshift tourniquet and tighten it into place.
    Carry a tourniquet. Stop the bleed. Save a life.
    Stay vigilant! Stay safe!

    Loved how you said "designed", "creator". Awesome.

      Agreed! Just thinking of the amazing, microscopic intricacies of our bodies down to the smallest organisms - it takes a whole lot more faith to believe that it all just randomly fell into place at precisely the right spots, compared to having a Creator who designed it all perfectly. It’s like having a box full of computer parts and shaking it up and expecting it will eventually all just randomly come together perfectly to make a working, high performance PC without anyone actually designing it and putting it together. And that’s not even taking into account who made all the parts in the first place! Nope, no way. It takes a creator. (And then to imagine what a tiny speck we are in the vast universe yet the Earth is at precisely the right spot to support human life… again, the odds of it all being random are so minuscule that it takes way more faith to believe it was random versus being perfectly created.)

    so basicly it heavily slows the flow of blood to a area where u are bleeding heavily like a gunshot wound?

    • @SixEcho
      @SixEcho  ปีที่แล้ว

      The goal would be for it to completely occlude all blood flow 2-3 inches above where you have heavy bleeding on a limb.
