A great review. I have a similar 51cm M20i and I love it. Like you I replaced the heavy Fulcrum wheels with tubeless Zipp 303s running 28mm Good Year Eagle F1 tyres, the ones you have would have been my other choice, but stock of most bike things is so scarce here in the UK too, Dura ace rotors and cassette, which transformed how it rides and brought the weight down nicely. Mine came with the flat carbon drop bars and for me the front mount has been secure. I've not had the steerer stem cut yet until I get a bike fit. I got mine just before the price increase too. I love it and like you no plans to change it. Thanks agin for the review and wising you many safe miles on it!

I have a 2021 Orca OMX M21eLTD with SRAM Force and I absolutely love it! Same Schwalbe tires on the the stock Vision 40 wheels. Super comfy and holds speed very well. Like you said not the lightest bike, my 13 year old Trek Madone was quite a bit lighter, but the power transfer on climbs is awesome. Great review!

Great review I brought the M30 model. I was between this bike and an aero bike (Marida Reacto). I'm not a racer but I want a fast bike , so I'm still weighing my choice. It was good to hear you say you were faster on yours, areo or not. I needed to here that .
Oddly enough, I was also weighing a Reacto myself. I can't say anything about Reacto since I've never ridden it but I am 110% happy with my Orca. Has everything one needs, nothing you don't. Had plenty of "aero" bikes in my past and I don't feel missing out one bit.

I recently sold all my race bikes and have gone to all-road setups. I did however still want a proper road bike in my lineup for when I go on group rides or longer road rides. So, I picked up the Orbea Orca M31eTeam and I love it. I've had several Orbeas in the past and they were all great bikes, they rode well and looked nice. Like you said, this one kind of fits in between the Aero and OMX with a slightly more relaxed geometry. But as I get older it feels perfect for my lack of flexibility and fitness. It makes for a good all-around bike much like the new Cervelo Soloist. I'd say the ride feel seems close to a steel frame where you're kind of grounded in the road, smooth but you're part of the road opposed to skimming over the top. I wouldn't say sluggish but just a solid feel. Think BMW opposed to Porsche, performance luxury over sports car. Out of the box the stock wheels were sluggish but I swapped them with my DT Swiss 1400s with Schwalbe Pros, that I had on a previous Orca Aero, and the bike seems a lot livelier now. Weight isn't the lightest but I'm not as concerned with that as much anymore these days. Despite that it does climb well when you put the power down and I'm sure being from the Basque Country that they kept climbing in mind. I'm sure the higher end models cut back in weight and climb well, but this does the job just fine. What you get is a great looking bike that will do just about anything you need at a nice price. There are plenty of models available to suit your budget and build preference.

I’ve owned mine for a year now, really nice riding bike, I do have a warranty frame on the way, I have some hair cracks around the top of the seat tube. One other thing is that my orange color way is now more yellow ish, only 3500km on it.

Hi Steve! I am 5'10" or 1m75cm depending on what you are familiar with. Typical sizing would have me on a larger bike but I always ride one size smaller for a few reasons. Even though the bike weights around 1kilo more than my previous one it is actually faster because of the better power transfer. I would like to ask what is the model of your bars. Weird. Mine includes the mount for wahoo or Garmin out of the box. It bounces a little yes. I think at the moment Orbea is one of the best deals for the money because their frame in particular the OMX is quite performing for normal people and even for some who compete. Geometries are adapted to sizes that is another plus and there are many sizes even very small ones. Then there is the MyO allowing options of parts also more in OMX. All that plus the color choice. Again if you only get the OMX frame with its stem then you can have a very competitive 7.2-7.8 kg bike probably, putting parts but you get the most important which is that frame. Great review thanks.
Thanks! I believe I saw somewhere the out-front GPS mount comes "with" with higher end models. I could be wrong, nonetheless both myself and my buddy who also bought himself an Orca per my recommendations had to order the mount separately direct from Orbea. She feels deceptively lighter under me when climbing for sure. Thanks for your time watching!!!!!

Je viens d’acheter le même en vélo hiver pour ne pas abîmer mon sworks. Ce vélo est génial,je l’ai pris en 105 avec roues carbone bontrager aeolus 50mm ,selle power spe et cintre plat :3300€ avec pedales look chez mon revendeur. Le groupe 105 fait son boulot et les roues carbones plus gp5000 transforme le vélo. J’ai beau rouler sur un sworks dura ace 12 qui coûte 4,5x le prix je dois admettre que je ne m’ennuie pas au guidon de cet Orbea orca ,seul défaut son poids (8,8kg) mais honnêtement je ne le sens absolument pas quand je grimpe . En plus il est vraiment beau en orange,idéal pour être vu lors de journée sans soleil😅. Je lui met 17/20 en note

@@timkemp5154 The bar I am using on my Orca is Zipp Aero Carbon. I didn't get it for its "aero" property but for its wide surface area at the top for "more" space to rest my hands. I find it very comfortable which many would argue how it shouldn't be. Just did a 130 mile ride and my hands were very well taken care of LOL
As regards the out front mount, I received my orca in January, like you first ride it came loose. Took it back to my dealer, the guy used locktite on the small screws and it’s been solid since

thx for your very common sensed and extensive review. i am in fact very eager to go for an orca, good to hear about that ride feeling. i am still struggling to get my head around the decision of M20 vs. M20i, since i would need to fork out additional 1.400,- Euros just for that. All Di2-users claim they would never go back. I, for myself, ride manual since ages and my current ultegra 6800 from 2010 still works fine and i have nothing to complain about. Your review reopened my thoughts towards staying mechanical. so the question goes: was your pick for the M20 a conscious decision against Di2 (mechanical cheaper to replace if damaged e.g.), driven by price-point or driven by availability?
Hi Lars! Thanks for your time watching and this LOADED question LOL!!! I currently ride 3 bikes that are electronically shifting and 2 bikes that are mechanically shifting. Do I prefer electronic shifting over mechanical? Yes but only by very small margins. The 2 that I ride with mechanical including the Orca, I have zero issues or concerns. They are simplicity at its finest, tried and true, and have that "familiar" feelings. That said, you would future-proof yourself a bit by taking on electronic groupset since an investment towards a bike is not a small expense. At the same time, nothing wrong with going with a mechanical drivetrain which will give you years of joy riding which is the whole point. I've seen some issues with Di2 as great as it is, and that's not a biased opinion just because I am predominantly a SRAM rider. Either or, you will have pros and cons going electronic vs mechanical. As to my decision on the one I ride, my decision was based on all the things you mentioned. I didn't care to spend extra for Di2, price at the time was on point, and it was basically the only 51cm Orca available anywhere in the US which is just ridiculous. And it was this absolutely annoying orange color which I could not say no to. :)

Great review!!! The m30 being an industry bargain (up there with the canyon) even after the price increase! I believe u can choose for a no riser handlebar when u place the order.
Thank you for kind words! You would be correct in saying you can choose how you want it equipped when you order through MYO. I bought mine as-is from a dealer who had it in stock so I ended up with however it was built which had that dumb bar I didn't care for LOL... I noticed Orbea did increase the price a bit this year and probably possibly again in coming year but again, still competitive if you ask me.

Thank you for this great, informative review. Bought Orca M20 just a week ago and absolutely loving the ride. Would have preferred white or orange, but currently in UK you can only get one colour - titanium gloss. Stock tyres are very average, as you said and I replaced it with GP’s5000. Looking forward to a ride later today.

I'f you like the ride quality and geometry of this bike you should check our the giant anyroad. It's near identical. Unfortunately they stopped making it. I managed to pick up a second hand one. Some places still offer it for between 1400 / 1200 new if you can find one. The orca and anyroad look very different but the geometry and ride quality and fell is identical.
Thanks for your intelligent and in depth review. Most enjoyable. You took 2.5 lbs off the out of the box weight. Did you do this entirely by replacing only the wheels and bar? I assume 17.5 is Without pedals. I am looking at the 2022 OMR frame with SRAM rival AXS. Thanks

Thanks for doing this review. Well done. I have a question if I may. I assumed this bike was made in Taiwan but then I saw a video of a guy with one showing it's made in Spain. Could you tell me where your frame was made? I think the sticker is on the down tube near the head tube. Thanks. Wish that color was still available.
Hi Eric. I no longer own this bike letting her go just a few weeks ago. I do think mine was Taiwan (I don't give much importance to country of manufacturing from tier 1 and tier 2 companies). But take with grain of salt since I haven't "looked" to answer this question from ya not having her any more. Pretty sure Orbea has their frames OEM private label manufactured in Taiwan anyway.

Thank you for your inspiring video. I immediately started looking for an M20. I found one (built in 2022) that is specified as 9.17 kg (20.15 lbs). Was the bike really that heavy in its original state? Since the weight of the Orbea Ready 19 wheelset is not listed anywhere, I am concerned.

Rainer. Thank you for the question. My Orca was 20.0 lbs fresh out of box. The Ready19 wheels are grossly heavy. I was able to bring the weight down to about 17lbs just by swapping to a reasonable set of wheels, an integrated cockpit, etc.
Just bought a 2023 M30i with the 105 di2 gruppo. Test rode the $11k OMX version at the shop, super fast and lightweight but definitely not worth Ducati money. On the plus side you can get some good deals on carbon wheels right now, the Hunt 4454’s are only $934 for the set. I’ll definitely have to upgrade the crap box section alloys for some aftermarket hoops. Have you had any problems with the Hunts or the Orbea for that matter?
CONGRATS!!! First, 4454 is a great set of wheels in terms of bang for buck regardless of its price tag. LOVE LOVE those wheels. The stock factory wheels that came with my Orca, boy those were definitely there just so you can roll out of a shop with. As to the Orca, I reckon it's one of the best value you can get. What a phenomenal bike...
I ride a 2021 Orca Aero (the cheapest one at the time). If I had a little more budget I would have gone for the Orca.
I designed my with the MyO and used the orange as secondary colour. I couldn't buy an Orbea without that colour ;)
I'm quite sad that completly threw away that design for their lightweight thing.
You and I are in an agreement that the new gen Orga doesn't quite tickle the same way...

Nice review...spot on. I have the M30 and love it. However, yes-forget about the integrated computer mount-weak and shaky so ditched it. Saddle and wheels have to go but otherwise perfect. Handlebar works for me. Only bike in it’s price range with proper internal cabling. Can go up to 32mm tires but found they pushed the already close toe overlap on my 53cm frame. Usually go with 54 so sizing down was appropriate.

Hi Amiry. Well you can cut it yourself but this is one job I would recommend you take to a shop you trust. Definitely must measure 10 times and make 1 solid cut.

I am a newbie in this sport. If I may ask what is your height and which frame size did you get? I’m 5”6 and thinking of getting the 51 sized frame. But doing my “research” online you can go a bigger size for a more comfortable ride. However the stand over height is over 1inch from my inseam length. I would really appreciate it if you can share your advice. Thanks
Hi Kram! Thanks for your time watching and also reaching out. Questions you have, those are LOADED questions. 5'6", I'd go look from 49cm to 52cm (where 50-51 would be sweet spot). One company's 50cm could be very different than another company's 50cm, so that's not how you should look however. I'd pay more attention to Stack and Reach. Going larger in size for comfort, that is absolutely not true. Fit is very important for road bikes although I am not a super anal elitist for the topic. When in doubt, you can go one size smaller but NEVER larger. You actually will be more uncomfortable by going larger as your seatpost will be buried more in the seat tube robbing you of compliance. I am 5'10" but I have typical old Asian man proportion where I am all torso and shorter legs. In result, I always ride bikes one size smaller than what shops and fitter would try like 54cm. I buy bikes as if I were 5'7" with my inseam being 30. The Orca in this video is 51cm, my BMC is also 51cm. I also ride a Giant TCR which is small. For Canyon, I would fit best on Small. So depending on how you are proportioned being 5'6", you will definitely find one from 49-52 depending on which brand and how geometry is set on a particular model. I hope that helps. These questions you have, I could go on for 2 hours straight explaining LOL... Take care.
Hi thanks for the video. I'm looking at picking up an Orca m30 (105) or giant defy advanced 2. I'm currently riding a GT Grade alloy sora. I would like something comfortable and not too harsh riding and afraid orbra may be too stiff. How do the orca compare to the defy in your experience?
Hi Hotsky. Thanks for your time watching. Orca is in my current rotation obviously and I've had pleasure of riding a few different Defys in the past. I really don't think you can go wrong either way in terms of comfort. Both will give you great geometry to find comfort in. I have ridden several century rides aboard my Orca and never came off the bike feeling beaten down. You mentioned "stiff" and that's the keyword here. It is stiff where needs to be for proper acceleration where its geometry and versatility in tire sizes can get you all the comfort you need. Do see if you can make wheel upgrade as that is monumental. That said, Defy line is a great line of bikes and should be just as nice.
@@DiabeticCycling I ended up getting the orca m30.:) Got one short 25mile ride in so far (pretty cold here in Canada in late December haha). Looking forward to longer rides when the weather improves.
Hello again, I was looking at the colors on the Orbea website, and was wondering if the color of your bike is electric orange or mango? I have not seen either in the store and will probably order through their website. Electric red, and one of the orange colors.

Great review of the bike, was planning to buy it soon, you mentioned that your bike size is 51, what is your height? There is 1 review where the rider is 170cm/5’7 buying the same bike size as yours and when he went for a bike fitting the bike was to big for him
Thank Mohammad for your kind words. Bike fit is an animal that could be debated of course since everyone is built differently and also having different preferences. I am 175cm/5'10". I am built with a longer torso than should and shorter legs unfortunately so I alway size down and then use setback on the post to put me a bit behind to make my center not to be too forward compensating for my torso.
Hi! Just watched your review of the Zipp 303s and the Hunt 4454 and now this one. I am going to pick up my Orbea Orca M20 in 5 days and looking for a good wheelset in the same price range as the mentioned Zipps and Hunts. Wanted to ask you what wheelset you would recommend now after a few more months (I am not climbing)? Also, I am 1.82m high but picking up frame size 57 as I want it more comfortable for longer rides on weekends, are there any changes from the stock Orca you would recommend me? Thank you!
Thanks for your time watching. As to wheels, if you plan to only ride flats, definitely go as aero as you can spend. 50mm or so and deeper, but do keep in mind deeper they get, more impact you will negotiate when there's cross wind. If the stock Orca comes with their riser bar, you may like it since you said you opt for comfort. I dumped it cause I didn't like the additional rise. Great value for money the Orca is, I'd spend as much as possible on wheels opting to save everywhere else. A great set of wheels will bring new life. Congrats and safe riding!

@@bmatic1319 Honestly, Hunts have some awesome wheels at sweet price point. So many wheels are super overpriced... Also, Hunts had some epic customer service when I was dealing with them. They got aluminum ones at well below $1k and then various price point with their carbon offerings. I'm sure you can find something that will fit your needs and budget. (I have zero affiliation with them, this is an honest recommendation)

Hi Jai. I am 175cm, 5'10" tall. I usually ride one size smaller because I have long torso and short legs :). the stem that came with the bike is 100mm.

I am 177cm or 5'10" but my height shouldn't really be considered as I have a body that isn't very proportional. I have longer torso with shorter legs for a man 177cm. So I ride frames always one size smaller typically as if I were 170cm. Thanks for your time watching!

For this particular bike, I don't have anything immediately planned as it rides just the way I like after the wheels etc. I may look ahead far down the road and perhaps think about testing 12sp Shimano if/when it comes out. Other than that, nothing else currently. :) Are you working on upgrades for yours?

I love my orca but haaate that outfront mount as well. My bolts ended up snapping after a couple rough roads. Waste of money!

Orbea claims you can fit 35mm tires. Do you feel that's an exaggeration?
Might depend on the wheels' native width but I reckon you can definitely put on 35s.
Have u tried the trek emonda sl 2021/2022?
Hi Marcus. Emonda SL or SLR is on my list to ride for sure. That said, my Factor and Pinarello will take up most number of miles this year unless I can get a hold of an Emonda unexpectedly readily available. We shall see. Do you have one? If so, How do ya like?

I know it's kinda douchey, but it really bugs me that the OMR designation is now their lower level carbon and layup. In 2015/2016 model year OMR was Orbea Monocoque Race and was the top end frame. OMP was the lower level P designating performance. Gotta be honest and it's lame, but having OMR emblazoned on my top tube when it was a significant increase over OMP But NOW signifies lower end is bullshit and a shitty move by Orbea. Still the best frame I've ever ridden though.
Hey Mike. Agreed on all points. It's a superb ride and one that never disappoints. Love my OMR Orca immensely myself.
