      When you look through the majority of planets in Star Wars, Nar Shaddaa is actually pretty nice (and I say this with FULL awareness of the fact that the moon is one giant mob casino, filled with refugees who have run out of options and are likely about to be enslaved and/or harvested, which orbits a literal toxic dump) - the majority of others you see are either A) Frozen wastelands with incredibly dangerous wildlife, B) Barren desert worlds with incredibly dangerous wildlife, C) Wild jungle with incredibly dangerous wildlife or D) Sparse scrub/swampland which can BARELY support an ecosystem but has, you guessed it, incredibly dangerous wildlife.
      There are valid lore reasons for all of this, but it doesn't change the reality that most inhabited worlds seem BARELY habitable (at best).
      Honestly, I'm glad that Galaxy is far, far away - it's the galaxy equivalent of that motel where you can choose between the room with bloodstains on the walls and ceiling or the room with stains on the bedsheets that you *wish* were blood.

    • @ravager2-636
      @ravager2-636 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@aecides3203 Sure.. But if the galaxy was full of garden world where organic life doesn’t struggle to survive then how biodiverse do you think the species of the galaxy would be..? Adaption to new/foreign & changing environments is important to the long term survival & evolutional capabilities +Genetic or cybernetic additions of a species.. Earth our homeworld was once incapable of supporting human life.. & still in parts of it has all the hallmarks of hazards you listed but over time we adapted & learned how to live & change the environment around us.. If humanity hopes to survive then just looking for earth-like planets is not sustainable.. Our nearest potentially “habitable” worlds are all not anything like earth’s but we believe that if we develop the right tech & send the right people we can make these once “inhospitable” planets home to us. Life find a way in all places & if one is resilient enough, can also.
      We know so little of our galaxy but as it is right now “comfortable” living elsewhere on some stellar twin is extremely unlikely (at this time).. Also our world gave us dinosaurs & other apex predators, what the hell is waiting for us on distant worlds.. 😅 (‘cough’ Tyranasquids)
      Taris was once a ecumenopolis a city spanning the entire world & was bombarded to the ground yet despite the destruction, life remained & eventually recovered.. which is why Nar Shaddaa was & is still better in their opinion.. >;)

    • @aecides3203
      @aecides3203 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ravager2-636 Oh I agree with that - adaptation and adversity is incredibly important for long term survival of a species. But none of that makes it a *nice* place to live compared to Nar Shaddaa (which, if you overlook/can avoid the horrific crime rate, is a pretty easy place to live and even thrive). Though I'm pretty sure almost *anywhere* with an even vaguely survivable atmosphere tops Taris - Rakghouls don't make for good neighbours.
      That said, I actually quite like the lack of biodiversity among a lot of Apex predators (like Nexu and Acklay) in the Star Wars Galaxy - it makes sense that, when almost the entire Galaxy has been inhabited by spacefaring species for tens of thousands of years (maybe longer? I'm unclear on just how old some of the really old species like the Rakata are), species which are best able to adapt and overcome will dominate a wide variety of ecosystems (think rats spreading around the world on cargo ships, but on a much grander and scarier scale) and, over time, naturally wipe out organisms which have evolved primarily to rely on a stable, local eco-system. I think some of it might have even been deliberate - we *know* the reason you can find the same sentient species appearing all over the Galaxy is that the Rakata distributed them across slave colonies, so it would make sense that livestock/beasts of burden/maybe even 'war' or 'sport' beasts (like Apex predators) would be distributed with them. As far as habitable planets go though, the lack of even basic terraforming has always confused me - it's demonstrated, in universe, that they're capable of it (any civilisation that can maintain an ecumenopolis must, by definition, be able to create and sustain an artificial atmosphere), yet everyone continues living on these barely habitable dump worlds just because natural garden worlds are limited (and usually get wrecked by one thing or another).

      This was contradicted in lore quite early on (in universe terms anyway) but the Jedi kept believing it anyway, and the splinter sect of them that call themselves the Sith kept preaching independence, self reliance and so on.
      Basically, if you believe Legends lore, all you really need to achieve peace and harmony in the afterlife is to be able to be selfless. The Jedi believed that meant they had to do everything the force nudged them to do but that wasn't really the case.

    The moon is dead to the force, even more so after what the Vong did to it, but it is simultaneously a tightly woven knot of people from all stripes of life and all corners of the galaxy, each bringing their own thread of life both dark and light.
    The force is thus like a concealing web that stretches across decaying slums and wraps the glittering hologram encrusted spires, making detection difficult for even the greatest masters of the scrying arts. It is the gnarled ground of the Star Wars galaxy, and yet one of the places where enough disparate threads of force converge to clearly detect an echo, a sound on the edge of hearing.
