I've picked up one amp rated that way and glad it's the only time I've made that mistake, if not for you and tubers like yourself, we wouldn't know better. Since impedance rise is inevitable I’m starting to pay more attention to the 2 ohm output. The 1 ohm and bellow the amp will from my understanding hardly ever see that in real life only for very short periods at box tuning. Makes me appreciate the Smart 3’s constant power at variable loads even more.
It's just the opposite actually, anywhere around tuning the impedance goes way up. For this reason a vented sub system will be able to provide far more output on far less current, especially if tuning is near where the bulk of the energy is. Simply blocking the port will cause current draw to go way up as it get's rid of that cab resonance impedance peak
@@hippo-potamus um... no. I've probably been in the biz longer than you have been alive. More specifically, there are actually 2 large impedance peaks on either side of tuning which you can move around in size depending on vehicle resonance and which side of fs you tune to but yes, impedance at tuning is also virtually always higher than the nominal rating and far higher for a ways on either side. If you can get an impedance peak at a freq that gives you good SPL you can get tons of free output for a burp only system. Put a subsonic below where it rolls off and high pass above and you can squeeze an amp for lots of juice if careful because the system is just more efficient at those freqs so less current is needed however its risky. It's not like you lose a ton of output at an impedance peak so if you're crafty you can use the peaks to your advantage if setup for a "burp" only but in real world it's not worth worrying about, it's just the secret math in the background. A sealed box typically has a much smaller single impedance hump so it requires far more current to operate.

I just bought the ds18 gen-x1800.1.d class d and I love it! Very solid amp. It looks nice and for a price of $168 it's pretty unbeatable. I got it running 450x1 @ 2ohms on my 8" sundown E8v3. It sounds amazing. I have had people ask what kind of 12s I have. Lmao.
Totally redeemed I would say, I'd say the price point isn't too bad for a Korean amplifier that looks as decent as this one does. Looks well built, solid choice!
Listening from other videos, that box does have a lot of organ pipe resonance or port noise. There were many attempts to eliminate the problem back in the 80s and 90s. One trick was to put string across the port like a guitar but I don't know how successful that was. Another great video.

Love the vids Big D! I just purchased a DS18 s3000.4 with four DS18 PRO-GM6.4B and a pair of DS18 PRO TW120 Tweeters. I really had to do my research on the amp! $200 and on the dyno it did the 190w x4 @ 4 ohms and 295+ x 4 @ 2 ohms stereo. I'll be hooking it up as soon as possible. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the setup sounds. Highs and mids on a budget with a small footprint! Wish me luck!
I run the pro 4" and tw120s ( 1 4", 1 tweeter, and two 6.5 each door) along with a pair of pioneer pro 6.5s in each door in my truck, have a nvx jad800.4 , running all that. U will cook those tweeters pretty often even at rated clean power ( I have a dd1 and a cc1), but fortunately they sell the recoil kit for the tw120, think it's tw-120vc for like $15 a pair, do urself a favor nd order a set to keep on hand lol. I replace mine about once a month. Awesome sounding tweeters tho, worth the $15 a month recoil imho
Nice amp, a little pricey. But very good efficient and I noticed it has a very good dampening factor. From my experience, usually amps with a higher dampening factor likes to be loaded down. I like DS18, you just have to know which one is the entry level gear.
Another great video my man, we can always count on you to bring it, keep these rolling. Not sure its worth the price tag they put on these, but it does put out some juice.. maybe check this amp out, likes interesting. Power Acoustik VA1-4000D

You put me onto ds18 and I'm doing a build with 8 of their prox6.4bm 6.5" mids 4 in each front door powered by exl-p1200 korean 4 channel and two of the zxi 12s on this ko2 amp.
I've got a DS18 S3500.1D on 2 resounds 10s (500 each coil) and damn doesn't the lil thing pack a punch for how small it is, I honestly laughed at it the first time I saw it and now I'm blown away how strong it is
Why does nobody talk about signal to noise ratios and dampening factor anymore? Back in the 90s I installed audio, and one of the things I looked for was dampening factor and signal. Maybe because we didn’t have these fancy dyno machines
Would love to see quarter ohm test on this amp because I ran a hifonics brutus x-14 at .25 ohm for well over 2 years , upgraded electrical , 275 amp ho alt, big 3 , 2 optima yellow tops , and it is still alive and kicking to this very day but only running at 1 ohm currently

The efficiency of this amp has me sold Usually it’s like 80% into 4 ohm 70% into 2 and 60% roughly into 1 Which means for me I can run this amp at 2 ohms get 1500 w rms and my electrical won’t even flinch I never expect this from a Korean amp. Want sure if they are cheaply made. Boy I was wrong
there mids and highs scream I havnt made my door panels yet but I have 4- 6.5s and 4- 2inch horns for each door..crew cab superduty can't wait to get them toghger

I have ds18 amp in UK new cost 400 pounds used 170 pounds or they say rated class C cuz opened box or stratches minor, my gfr burned two subs 15 inches. they are insane on low bass, so i bought her spl ones 3k rms subs, no burned subs anymore lol

I have ds18 amp in UK new cost 400 pounds used 170 pounds or they say rated class C cuz opened box or stratches minor, my gfr burned two subs 15 inches. they are insane on low bass, so i bought her spl ones 3k rms subs, no burned subs anymore lol

No its legit. I took the risk last month on it and it blew my sundown Sfb2000d outta the water when I hooked it up.

Hey man did you ever decide which 2k amp to run? I been debating on a few 2ks myself and it's been a toss up between the fosgste 1500bdcp which isn't 2k but good amp, as well as the DDM2000
