    In this episode we showcase some of the similarities between two Indo-Aryan languages, Bengali and Assamese, with two very bright participants who happen to be the youngest we've had on this channel. Hope you enjoy it! Please follow and contact us on Instagram if you would like to participate in a future video: instagram.com/BahadorAlast
    In addition to the sentences, here are the paragraphs from the video:
    Assamese:
    বিজ্ঞানৰ প্ৰায়োগিক দিশটোকে এক কথাত প্ৰযুক্তি বিদ্যা বোলা হয়। পৰীক্ষা আৰু যুক্তিৰে কোনো কথা জনাৰ প্ৰয়াসকে সহজ কথাত বিজ্ঞান বুলিব পাৰি। প্ৰযুক্তি বিদ্যাৰ ইতিহাস বহু পুৰণি। মানৱ-সভ্যতাৰ ক্ৰমবিৱৰ্তনৰ ইতিহাসৰ লগত ই ওতপ্ৰোতভাৱে জড়িত। আদিম মানুহে জুইৰ ব্যৱহাৰ নাজানিছিল। বস্তু কেঁচাই খাইছিল।

    Indo-Aryan languages are surprisingly mutually intelligible, I could understand almost 70% of Bengali (Assamese is a little bit more challenging though). My mother tongue is Konkani and I'm fluent in Marathi, Hindi and Nepali and English. Besides I can understand and speak Gujarati, Punjabi, Spanish ( from my stay in Texas) and Portuguese fairly well.

    • @MedinipuriTuka036
      @MedinipuriTuka036 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      This mutual intelligibility is not specific to Indo Aryan.. Romance (Indo European), Tibetic, Austronesian and many other languages in the same language family are similar as they are often sister languages... and some act as distant cousins who are less similar.. like Assamese and Konkani because they are distantly related and are less mutually intelligible... sorry for a whole para, didn't mean to rant just wanted to discuss and let you know

    Wow this video made me very happy. I'm from Assam's neighbouring state Meghalaya, we used to be part of Assam but our state split from it in 1971, one of the reasons being linguistic and cultural since the dominant languages here are of the Austro-Asiatic family- Khasi and Jaintia along with Sino-Tibetan Garo . I loved seeing the eastern Indo-Aryan language representations. I'm a native Bengali speaker and I learnt Assamese in my late teens when I went to university where most of the friends were from Assam, both Bengali and Assamese are very similar, they are sister languages to each other. Assamese is a beautiful language ❤️

      Well, it might be interesting to compare the formal vocabulary, how they differ in Hindi and Urdu forms. They are somewhat like the Germanic and French/Latin vocabulary differences in English, so it might be interesting in that aspect.
      However, to most people who don't know the language (or one of the related languages), the two would sound exactly the same.

    Hi Bahador, I admire your series very much and the comparison of languages is fascinating to me. But I am sorry to say that I echo the sentiment of the first sentence used in this video, TO this video 😊. The reason is that, unlike all the other videos in this series that I have seen before this one, this isn't a controlled experiment in the following sense. The boy is fluent in Assamese, but the girl is fluent in both Assamese and Bengali. So, it isn't clear whether her understanding of the sentences that the boy presented to her is from her Assamese or from her Bengali fluency. It may be worthwhile to consider another video for this pair of languages which is more of a controlled experiment. Perhaps a person from West Bengal or Bangladesh who knows Bengali and not Assamese, and someone from Assam who knows Assamese but not Bengali. There are significant differences that will likely be illustrated by such a pair that will be helpful for all of us to understand the similarities and differences between the two languages. Notwithstanding this critique, I commend these two bright kids for doing this video. Thanks!

    The comparison would be more prominent if two people's from different regions interract with each other. In this case the girl (no doubt is a good speaker and bright student) might knowledge the other language. This comparison will be better if someone from bengladesh or west bengal who don't know Assamese participate and make the comparison more viable.
    This is my personal opinion don't take it other ways.
    Both the participants are really good and pray for their bright future.

    Can u please make a video about Sylhoti language? Which is an ancient Indo Aryan language spoken by Sylhoti ethnic group of Bangladesh and India.It's one of the 100 most spoken language in the word. Often people insult Sylhoti language calling by a dialect of Bengali or Assamese; which is totally wrong. Sylhoti is way older than Bangla and Assamese script.

      Your wrong 😑🤦‍♂️lol assam don’t sound like sylheti at all, yes it does sound like bengli but not sylhet or any part of Bangladesh! Bangladesh every state got they own way of talking like literally every dialect but proper Bangali language is shudo it’s not only for one state it’s for whole country 🇧🇩 sylhet ppl can talk they dialect way they of course like Chittagong people talk they own way n Dhaka ppl talk they own way too but shudo is the main way of talking bengli language and it’s more professional and respectful 😁 no hates to anyone but it’s the truth.
