It’s true. I got very sick and my 4 month old GSD puppy was totally lost while I was in the hospital. Thankfully my neighbor took care of him and still helps. When I first got home my puppy knew I was ill. His behavior was so sincere and he did everything he could to comfort me. It’s been hard on him but he’s still in complete adoration of me and I do what I can until I recover. Hard on both of us and my family.

German shepherds in my book are the best dogs around even though I still love all dogs, but the Shepard is always been my favorite.

When my late wife died suddenly, it was heart breaking to see our GSD roaming the house looking for her. He settled down after I put some of her old clothes in his bed.

Loyal loving gentle my best friends. When I die, all I want is to meet them all on the other side and run with my whole pack and, in the rest time's sit down with them and my 3 special cats. They are proper dogs. So loving, loyal and kind eyes. Another thing not to do is play dead. They are a very anxious breed and very emotional. Their job is to protect their owners and round up their families to stay together. If the family are separated in other rooms you will usually find they will lay across the doorways. I so absolutely adore these dogs and have always had a close bond with them 🥰

it is easier for the living dog to realize the facts of the death when you take the body back home and give them an hour to take it in.
I left my male Guinea pig who had died from a seizure in the edge of the tray for half a day...
My female sat in that spot for two weeks straight, stopped eating and had I had to inject her glucose, force feed her and then get her teeth shortened when she started eating again... but she survived because I got her another male companion.
Dogs are pack animals, same as Guinea pigs.
My Malinois Mix died three years ago and I am so so sad still 😢

We've always had Boxers, we bred them and to us they were the perfect dog. As years went by, we decided to do something different. We got our first Belgian Shepard...a Terv...she was so special we got a boy ,her 1/2 brother. They are really special. After our 1st passed we knew our boy needed a companion. We chose a GSD. A female soft coat. She's something else. She loves her brother so much and she epitomizes the description of the GSD here in this article. However, we live on acres and very few people come out. So, I'm so ashamed that she has not been socialized. Now it's time to see the vet. She was there last year and did well. Now, I'm faced with a muzzled baby, and it's my fault. I'm not sure how to handle it. As aggressive as my Boxers were, I never had this issue because we had lots of family and lived in a city neighborhood. Does anyone have any suggestions as how to proceed? She's 2 yrs. Old a little skittish but is so loving loving. We got her a soft muzzle, so far,I don't have the heart to try it.

I recently lost one of my dogs. After dealing with it, I had a turn about. Initiallym I told my husband that when my second passed, I was NEVER getting another dog. Now...over a year later, I have gotten so attached and worried about losing my Medusa, I told him that when her time came, NO MATTER what I said when it happened, bo matter how I told him not to bring another dog in, to just as soon as he can, the very same day, go bring me another one, because it would be the only way I would ever be able survive it. They are as loved as my children. In spite of loving all dogs, GSDs are so much more than any other.

We had 2 females - Sadie and Emma .. Sadie was, like yours, a bit older and pasted away rather suddenly from an aggressive form of cancer. It broke Emma's heart .. She sat at the gate and cried for weeks ... Wouldn't eat, wouldn't play - nothing. We then got a young male, Sammy, and though it took her several months to warm up to him... they're like 2 peas in a pod now.
I'm 65 and have had German Shepherds since the early 80s .. Best dogs EVER.

Growing up we had a couple German Shepherds (not at same time) and my sister had a black lab. The 1st GS was hit by a car so we got the 2nd one, a retired FBI dog. He was great. He became attached to my father the most so had stability his whole life. Wonderful family dog and guard dog when needed without being dangerous. They are great at rescuing if near drowning and will pull you out by the arm or hand. I think there are some dogs of nearly every breed that might grieve, just depends on the individual dog's dog,' dog's,

There is one other thing I noticed. When your dog is a social animal it will never be agressive but will have selfconfidence. So with both my last two Tervueren Shepar Dogs , I started to walk with them without them being on the leash. I gave them full freedom. Yes they would walk away up to a 100 m or staying behind a 100m. But being social animals I knew whatever they encoutered it would work out fine. It's like granting children freedom after you teach them social behaviour and let them know their environment. This might be more easy in a rural village environment like mine. But still it works. The dogs selfconfidence is high, it's behaviour very social.
Walking in the woods my dog might smell a deel or a boar , it will put its nose high in the air. But when we tell the dog not to go after it , it will not do so.
And yes when it smelled a wolf ( nowadays thet live again arond our village ) it stood completely still, almost as saying "don't go there, it's dangerous"
Dog are the mirrors of our own life when it comes to social behaviour.

We have literally followed and subscribe to all the behaviours and actions described in this video, we have a beautifully balanced confident and social GSD. She is so attuned and devoted that she does not require a leash as she has great recall and stays by my husband or my side until given the go ahead to explore or to play, she is the most brilliant and sweet of all the many dogs we have raised over the years, and GSD are amazing family pets if properly treated as described by this video. Thanks for the great content.

Well I totally agree with you .
But this applies to all human beings ( children f.e. ) and animals.
The stronger family ties are the more of all you said is true.
Our Belgian shepperd dogs behave the same. They feed on the same positive feedback.
And they reward you in the same way. As Tervueren Sheppard Dogs ( TSD) have a naturally kind and intelligent nature they will will respond the same way the GSD does.
Our first TSD was taken away from his alcoholic owner at the age of 2 yrs. My wife being a vet, take the dog home to us for the weekend. It never left. Nor she nor we wanted that.
Later when we would raise our own TSD we saw the difference between a troubled childhood and a healthu one. Our first TSD was always suspicious with new pwersons. Our selfraised TSD always expect other humens to be ok. And yes when they have a bad feeling about them they will warn us at once.
    lovely dogs.

Key commands, sit, stay, and down must be taught from puppyhood. An immediate "down" has saved one of my dogs from a speeding car and an intruder from a well-deserved attack. (The cops were glad they didn't have to take the fella to the hospital.)
