I purchased the 1050 a few days ago, did a burnin and one cook. I wished I would have watched this prior to assembly. Anyway, I just purchased the 1050 pit master package through the link you have here. Wish me luck on the install! Thanks again for sharing sir.
Good info. Just placed order for Mods and I noticed that they added a plate for the top lid that some have been using aluminum foil to help. The stainless has to be a great option. So now that I have 4 modes being shipped to me, it is now time to order the 1050 bbq unit. Yes, I did this backwards but will add mods to the original assembly and know It is setup to go. I hope that MB does a pro model upgrade soon. These items are a must have for all the videos I have seen with how fast the original firebox stuff is not holding up.
@@thegalleryBBQ that is good to know. Yes, that was ordered as the 3 parts mod. They may only have 1 of the top lid mods right now. Looks like they are selling out fast so I am sure they are making more. Its a square piece that as you would guess just fits the lid and comes with gasket it said in the description.
I think he listened to you over at LSS because he gave me more gasket which was perfect. Also anyone reading this, make sure to order and add the mod while you are building the masterbuilt. The mod for the firebox slide right in. No hammering or anything. Probably because the sides on the firebox had lub so it just slide right in. I know I know that doesn't sound right hahaha! Anyways it worked perfectly. I would say to put it in after you flip it back on it's legs. When you first get the grill you have to flip it over to add legs and such. Wait till you flip it back up right then add the firebox mod. I say this because I think it will move and not sure it will move back all snug. Like it might move back down, but maybe not as snug at the bottom. Might leave a gap.
Tommy, just wanted to say thank you for the great videos. I received my 1050 as a Birthday/ Father's Day gift from my wife. I have done at least 10 Cooks on the grill. So far the Grill has been solid with low and slow cooking and keeping a consistent temperature. However the Firebox metal pretty much disintegrated and left the fiber insulation showing. Today I received my modification from Luke's website. I installed the Firebox insert, manifold cover and water pan. I'm hoping this will prolong the life of the grill. Masterbuilt needs to up their game and provide consumers better quality materials in their products. Overall, the 1050 is a solid grill/smoker that produces great BBQ.
Just received the 3 piece kit. Quick ship.....I would use heated treated paint, to paint the lower section of the fire box. Mine was starting to show rust with in the month.
I just got my Masterbuilt 1050. I put in the firebox mod before the first burn in. Man, the mod went in like butter. Just givin' heads up if you want to try this mod.
Thanks for the great mod. Love your videos. Great production along with good info. I'll be buying the 1050 this summer. This little tip will get me off to a great start. Liked and subscribed👍
Thanks for the tip and taking time to produce the vid, Tommy. I have the 3 piece kit coming from Luke tomorrow. I should be able to take out for a break-in cook this weekend! BTW, my first brisket on the 1050 was best ever using your technique.
The kit arrived today and it’s in! I’ll send you the pics on email. Really happy with Luke’s craftsmanship. I ordered it on Monday and it arrived today. I’ll be doing something probably tomorrow or Sunday. My lower firebox was warped after 4 cooks but not too bad and it flaked when I hammered it but no holes yet. It’s low humidity here so maybe that’s why it hadn’t deteriorated too much. Thanks for your great work, Tommy. Keep on rockin’
Would a spray on ceramic coating work as well or better? They ceramic can take heat up to 2000f & it would be a barrier between the hot coals & the firefox.
Nice video, Tommy! I want to assemble my unit tomorrow but am awaiting shipment of the firebox mod. I had originally planned to install the mod during my initial assembly of the unit in anticipation that it would make things easier. I was hoping to slide the mod from the bottom up right before installing the fan base. Is this even possible? If not, then I would still have to do it from the top down like your video. If that is the case, theres really no advantage to install mod at initial assembly? Thanks!
I have an opportunity to pick up a brand new, in box, Masterbuilt 560 for $400. I think it is a good deal. $499 at Home Depot + tax. Think I should pull the trigger? If I get it, do you recommend that I add the after market firebox mod right away? Thanks for any suggestions.
Tom, I'd grab it for sure-. Its an awesome pit. As far as the Mod thats a tough call. Im glad I have mine, that said. its been 6-7 months now and there have been zero reports of failer. Make sure you sign up at my facebook group and keep me updated. If you don't facebook you can email me. gallerybbq@gmail.com
Hello, I'm interested in getting this masterbuilt and have watched lots of your videos and others. But noticed that the back panel is open for the smoke to exit. Is there a cover or anything like that? Some of my smokes go overnight and in the rain and dont want water in there.
Got mine locally here in Nor Cali for $300 you got a deal too! One of the switches was broke on the ash door so I jumpered it until I get the new one..lol
I just noticed 3 holes in my Hooper in the same area. Did you try reaching out to Masterbuilt? Is that covered under the 1 year warranty? I submitted a case with them just now. Curious if you did and what they told you. Thanks. Enjoy all your videos. Actually helped make my choice of the 1050
Good question, I use Kingsford Briquettes as that's the only thing I can get around here. Remember People are doing this Mod as a precaution. I'm not sure anyone has had a failed firefox. That said. I'm pretty sure Masterbuilt sells a firebox kit to rebuild it on their website. ▼
Junior, I love my Masterbuilt and believe it's the future of backyard BBQ. The technology is outstanding. That said, I did get a tad giddy when I fired up the Pit Boss and Pit Boss is an awesome company..
I agree. If you look at say a Yoder, which is running 12 gauge in general and 7 in the basket, you are dropping nearly 3 grand. This is typical for high end, heavy gauge grills and smokers. IMO from my experience with affordable, big box grills, the space where your coals rest is what takes a beatin. If 150 bucks can fix this then you’re still under a grand for the 1050 and under 7 bills for the 560. That’s far less than what you’d pay for a competition/commercial grade grill.
20% of the price of the grill but will last 100% longer. MB sells replacement parts to keep us spending money on their product. Nothing wrong with either of those tactics. We are just fortunate that someone (Luke) has found a solution and is making a buck or two for our benefit. Sounds like a fair hand shake kind of deal to me. I bought my 1050 and it finally arrived this week. And so has my modify kit from Luke. They will be added as I assemble my pit. I expect mine to last for years without having to buy replacement parts. My thanks to: The Gallery Backyard BBQ for spreading the news and to Luke for offering a solution. I look forward to more of your videos
Same here! I had the complete mod kit ready to go when my 1050 arrived. Was easy to slide in before ever being cooked on. I was able to push in with my fingertips without a hammer.
