Met Ricky in Columbus Ohio, early 2000s, worked as a stage hand, for the venue.... Great individual, showed me the riff, for "On The Hunt", during downtime, before the show...... Great Guitarist & Human Being !!....
We all know that Rickie was not an original member of the band, but he sure as hell did a jam up job of extending the life of such a great band ! Thanks Rickie 🤟
My ears are still ringing from standing in front of the huge speakers at a Blackfoot concert back in the early 80’s. I swear I couldn’t hear normal for a month. Train, trained my ears ! 😂
I have been a fan of Ricky since his days with Blackfoot when they lived in New Jersey and shopped at Tommy Barth's music store, where I worked. I had a prog punk band TV Toy at the time. Oddly enough, Blackfoot was a huge inspiration. Having now seen Medlocke's Lynyrd Skynyrd many times I continue to be surprised that Rickey does not have a micophone. As we all know, he is one of the best rock singers of all time.
Skynyrd is very smart to keep adapting with new players. Lead guitarist Damon Johnson stole the show when I saw them last year. He was an 80s shredder from Alabama who later started his grunge band Brother Cain, who gained fame in the 90s. I recognized Damon and his wine red Les Paul Custom that was used in his MTV music videos instantly!!
I can’t believe the list of songs that Ricky wrote such as crossroads stairway to Heaven Layla. It’s got more and more. It’s unbelievable. I think he even wrote the national anthem.
I was a member of a band that got signed I played on the first Demo and a few Gigs and my name is in the Band Wikipedia So I am considered a Member also the Demo was released on a CD and have to say Rick Medlocke is an Original Member of Skynyrd!
Agreed! Their in my top 5 bands all time, but since that plane crash, they've been nothing more than a tribute band . I wish they'd have just been left to pass...
The “which album you would want on a deserted island” question is kinda fun. I know for me, Blackfoot Strikes would be on the list and I listen to a lot of different kinds of music from Bluegrass to Classical to Metal (so a lot of “favorites”). Hell, Strikes would be on the list if I only had five choices. I was 17 years old when I first heard it and it’s been playing ever since.
I don't believe he "learned to play the banjo by the age of 3" for a New York minute. Even by age 6 is pushing it. By the way: a small child who is simply raking his or her fingers over the open strings of any stringed instrument is NOT "playing the instrument". The tiny hands & fingers of a 3 yr old simply doesn't have the strength, stamina, coordination, and dexterity needed to actually play a banjo. But the most ridiculous claim I've ever witnessed from any musician by far, was the claim from Frank Marino, guitarist for Mahogany Rush. In an old interview back in the late 70's, Frank claimed he had never even picked up a guitar by the time he dropped a hit of acid........and with NO lessons, tips, or practice of any kind, he claimed that he IMMEDIATELY started "playing searing leads as well as he ever played......as if he had already been playing for years". What a load of bullsh*t.
Blackfoot was amazing every song every album
Amen!

I put Ricky up there with all the Southern Rock Elites that has ever lived. He is in the top 3!
Rickey is the best very talented.

My favorite Skynyrd tune is still The Seasons.
"And my dayyyy ~ Has gone byyyy."
LS, now is pretty much a cover band. Way too many classic rock bands play way past their expiration date…

Who really cares about Ricky Medlock? It’s funny how the tribute band that they call Lynyrd Skynyrd has written a lot of great songs seriously
