Years go by after this video was made, but you'll never know how grateful I am for seeing this and how many people you've helped. We truly live in wonderful times with TH-cam. Your way of explaining things is perfect and without this help I would have never figured it out. This is just perfect and let's me enjoy my TS820 the way it was meant to be!
Hmmm...My digital display and dial had matched until a week ago, now the digitsl is about 9kHz higher and audio is not coming through properly. Have you dealt with this too?
I replaced the panel lamps on my '820S last night.....and spent 30-45 minutes trying to get the dials to line up properly.... FAIL! Decided to take a chance and see if anyone posted something on TH-cam, and found your video. THANK YOU!!! I got the rig back together and it looks great again with it's new panel lamps and an aligned dial! Again, thanks for posting! it saved the day!
OH man that's great! I'm glad it helped you out! Took quite some time to get it figured out myself! Love TH-cam for stuff like this! I love my 820s fun to switch back and forth between that and my 7600! Have fun! 73
Thanx for doing this. Friend gave me his 820 to refresh & this was cornfusing to me. The are 2 adjustments in the VFO itself that can help with the tracking accuracy at the end points, but I wouldn't mess with them as they are interactive. If you are good with rubics cube blindfolded, you may try it. 73
Thank you for posting this. It helped me finally fix the annoyance of that inner dial being a few steps off. Honestly, it it bugged me, but since it really has no effect on operation, I never bothered to do anything about it. After watching this video, it REALLY bugged me. Easy fix.
Hey Chris! I'm glad it worked out for you! It took me quite a while to figure it out so I thought a video would be beneficial and I hoped that someone out there could use it. I love the radio and like you it was bugging me that it was off. Thank you for the feedback. Ryan
Hey man! I'm glad it's helped you out! I'm really surprised this video has received so much attention! I'm glad it's helped so many people re-align the VFO dial!
G'Day Ryan I have the same issues with ts820s and vfo alignment, what kix Me is, I took all the dial plates out and the most trouble I'm having is, as to where the dial fixed by 1 screw against vfo? where it is set in it's alignment fully anti clock or clock wise??, if You worked it out be happy to hear the results of Your problem solving, , been inactive for 20 yrs and currently working on rejuvenating, You guessed it. TS820S,Regards, Des in Oz
You need to get the "gain" (frequency shift per turn, kHz/turn) of the VCO correct by adjusting some Ls and Cs. They talk about that in a different part of the manual. You have to check at both extremes to see how well you did! There is an important step to do before this. This helps greatly getting the dials back on (assuming the VFO tracking is correct). This is such a mystery that I am considering replacing The old VFO with a modern IC VCO and potentiometer (with gain and offset) to overcome this! Driving me crazy!

Yeah, that doesn't work. My VFO doesn't have a "number 5"......1 thru 4 only.
If it’s indeed an 820s perhaps the VFO had been changed at some point.
The directions clearly have helped many people based on the views and comments.
a bunch different from the 520s
