Cured is kind of Steve Hackett's "pop" album where he leans slightly towards AOR but it also shows how versatile he is as a musican and how diverse his music is, he was never afraid of trying out different styles. It's an enjoyable album and has some great songs that i still to this day enjoy listening to.

Love his sophisticated approach to describing his compositions to these natural wonders of the world. He’s so unique among rock guitarists. Momentum and Bay of Kings are other outstanding classically acoustic guitar albums. Be safe everyone. Merry Christmas and happy holidays.

Steve Hackett is perhaps the best at speaking to the listeners heart. His music is just that. Music that speaks. A master guitarist. There may be those who are more gifted, but Steve is the best at speaking through music, bar none. That is why I have loved what he does since 1974. I have owned all the Genesis albums he appeared on and eleven of his solo albums. I have never gotten that many albums with any other guitarist, except maybe Steve Howe of Yes. Still, I love hearing Hackett so much more than Howe. A testament to his greatness.

I love Cured! I have a soft spots for albums considered "weak" by artists and/or fans. ELP's Love Beach comes to mind. It's not as bad as people make it out to be.

Cured was the first Hackett album I was able to find (on cassette, in Caldor..). I loved it! And still had his first 4 masterpieces to discover..

Perhaps if “Love Beach” had a different cover (and title), it would have been more highly regarded as their other albums.

Nice to hear there are others like me out there, I've often found myslef liking some of theose lesser liked albums as well - Love Beach being one, Cured another, Yes' Tormato as well and my favourite Yes has always and will forever be Topographic Oceans - Kiss' The Elder-I love it. I've never been one to go along with crowdthought, and in many cases if you listen to those underappreciated albums by themselves and forget what the band or artist has previously done and thereby remove any expectation of what you think you are going to hear or what you think you want to hear they are often a lot more enjoyable in their own right.

l happen to like Cured a LOT. l liked it when it came out. Everybody was experimenting with technology at that time, including his old bandmates, Ant Phillips, Ian Anderson, and so on. Whether the motivation was experimentation or to try to stay relevant is a moot point to me (and l would venture that it was experimentation for them, as Marillion was huge at the time, basically doing what they were all doing a few years ago).
I was a diehard prog head who happened to really get into artists like Icehouse, Talk Talk, Pete Shelley, etc, who were doing this great stuff...it was music that sounded completely different from anything that came before, so l was actually *thrilled* that these artists l loved so much from the 70s were intrigued enough to see what they could do with it. One could even say that Peter Gabriel led the charge, l think his 3rd album was massively influential on this whole scene that suddenly appeared.
Of course with everyone suddenly using Fairlights and Linn Drums it all got stale and samey pretty quickly, but there are quite a few albums from that period that are damn creative, and to call them "dated" is just lame. 99% of rock is "dated".
A Day In The Life is "dated". So what?

He has such a variety, from this new classical world music, to modern, very adventurous prog rock!..

I too enjoyed Cured very much. I wish I would have kept all my vinyl LPs instead of trading 90% of them for the CD's in the 80's. What was I thinking? Cheers to all and happy Holidays.

    Hi John and Steve,
Wow your channel and these incredible Steve interviews are the best. So happy that Steve has gotten over his surgery in good shape.
God bless and keep well. Happy Holidays and a super and healthy 2021,
    Tino

    My first Hackett solo album.
Great album, but it really needed a drummer rather than a drum machine.

I also like Cured. While it isn't Steve's best (nor his best cover artwork), I have a soft spot in my heart for it, and it really can grow on you. Listening to his albums sequentially it is amazing to experience the change in style and production going from Defector to Cured to Highly Strung in just those few years - there probably isn't as drastic a shift in his sound anywhere in his discography except between rock and acoustic guitar albums.
Steve's lead vocals, which are quite high, and harmonies are great throughout. He didn't ever sing as high (except maybe India Rubber Man) or as much as on Cured, and his melodic approach is quite different lately. I wish he'd write more vocal melodies closer to those on Cured, but with his current production.
Not sure why it posted twice, but I also wanted to suggest that for Cured's 40th anniversary, perhaps Steve could redo it as a "live" studio album - i.e. real drums and a whole band. He already re-recorded The Air-Conditioned Nightmare, and A Cradle of Swans can stay as is, so that leaves only six other songs to tackle. What do you say, Steve? "Cured 2021" - could have a double meaning if things turn around with the pandemic....

In retrospect, Cured is not that bad, in fact it's mostly good, but the unexpected pop shock was there. Steve loved Abacab by his former band mates, and I guess he wanted to follow that route while Peter Gabriel was leaving that behind already (PG2), and he started to pull the envelopes and breaking new ground with Melt.

Most of 60's/70's stars had a hard time on the eighties just take a look to Rod Stewart, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Beach boys, Beatles (solo), etcétera

MTV made many conform to a certain image of big hair and colorful fashion. Steve had the looks so probably felt corporate pressure to puff up his hair and put on suits and change his image too easily. I like that record now but was disappointed at the time.
