In the Flowing Light of the Godhead (for chorus SSAA a cappella)

This scrolling-score video features my work for women's chorus (SSAA), one of three settings of texts by female mystics. For this piece I adapted a number of poetic passages from Mechthild's work that are a very personal expression of the soul's love for God and God's love for the soul. Her language is strong, ecstatic and full of vivid imagery that is often compared to that in Song of Solomon.
I am very grateful to be able to draw upon the wonderful translation of Mechthild's work by Frank Tobin; it is part of the series the Classics of Western Spirituality, published by Paulist Press.
