    Absolutely fantastic build. I have been building my own gym equipment for 40 yrs including benches,hack machine,lat pully machine,preacher bench,and wrist roller machine.Wood can be as good as steel.As long as you use the proper engineering designs,mostly using triangles as the basic frame, and fasteners.Thru bolts with nuts,as opposed to lag bolts. Etc...

    Nice work. I would absolutely suggest that the 2x4 stopper arms were tall enough to contact the wood part of the trolley instead of just the wheels. That could mean using a 2x6, or maybe just another piece of 2x4 securely bolted to the top edge of the existing arm. Other than having a continuous steel pipe for loading the plates onto, the rest looks solid!

    • @martinjensen3688
      @martinjensen3688  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks - will look into the stopper.
      Yes using one pipe would be a big improvement, and something that is on my list. I don't have a steel supply anywhere near me, and the closest charges more for a cut pipe that would fit this, than a uncut length of 6 meter, which is a bit to long for my car ;)

      good eyes I saw the same thing, an for safety you can add side sliders for the lowest safety stop for if you cant push the weight up an its past the first stopper arms.

  • @tsgarage2382
    @tsgarage2382 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Good construction except I would probably use 4x4 fence posts for the frame an then continue on with the same rail system, an roller wheels that are fixed. an make it wider so its more stable an can hold more weight, I was just about to start this project an came across your video, I was thinking the exact same guide setup an wheels. Love your seat setup an the different seat angles , awesome work man.

      Thanks for your comment - make sure to see my video with improvements th-cam.com/video/e657NNmtfJg/w-d-xo.html
      The legs have been doubled making them 4x4. Wheels are fixed - I started with rotating wheels, but that didn't work well (pretty sure I mention it somewhere in this vid).
      I always try to make things as compact as possible, since I don't have a lot of space - but I do get your point ;)

    Very impressive stuff; i wish i had the space for one in my shed, Later in the year i am going to try and make a hack squat attachment to mount on my squat rack. I have a squat rack but i can't squat because my back is shagged. I need either a leg press or a hack squat for the support and safety.

    It would surely handle 1000lbs with the amount of lumber there, but I do see a few spots it would need reinforced in first. *It's a great design and I realize I can build something similar but much smaller to hold a tremendous amount of weight.*
    A small, simple design I can take up to 400lbs but use with my back and butt on the floor. There's always high reps and 1 leg at a time anyway.

    Love it. I just built a diy leg press as well, but its very different. Mine hooks up to a lat pull down/row cable attachment i have on my squat rack. You basically hook the cable on to the row attachment, feet up on a board, and the seat slides back on rollers when you do the press. Its not gonna be able to handle anywhere near the weight you can put on yours, but it will work for me as i have a problem with weak legs. Would love to be able to build something like yours

    • @anthonyponafala7973
      @anthonyponafala7973 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonashall9800 I'm assuming it would look almost exactly like a total gym with an upright back ...where the seat slides on rails...just put an eye bolt on the bottom of the seat to attach to the tower so the weight moves when the seat does

    • @MrSoggyjocks
      @MrSoggyjocks ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anthonyponafala7973 Thats pretty accurate. It worked but wasnt great. I dont think i mounted the wheels perfectly straight, and so with each rep the angle would shift slightly so i was no longer going straight back. And with each rep it got worse. It needed some guiderails to keep it aligned, and by that point i gave up haha. I've recently seen a diy hack squat which looks easy enough to build. It uses some pre-built linear guide rails, so its not totally diy, but its detachable from the squat rack meaning i can lean it up against a wall when i am done and save space.

    • @anthonyponafala7973
      @anthonyponafala7973 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrSoggyjocks I'd take a little wobble over a $2k purchase lol. I also prefer to have the weight separate on a diy wooden build. Confident in my carpentry skills but still would rather the weight be distanced on a pulley than loaded above my head using chair flanges/pipe as plate holders...

    • @anthonyponafala7973
      @anthonyponafala7973 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrSoggyjocks but yeah hack squat/lever squat is an easy build.
      You can apply the same to do lever pull downs.
      For example using the safety pin you'd build essentially a seesaw. Weight/plate holder on one end and handles/grip on the other.
      Great way to do lat pulls without a tower.
      Costs maybe $60 to build.
      2- 8' 4x4's and a couple of chair flanges. Had these on my wooden squat rack way back. Did lat pulls and chest presses on them

  • @harris091172
    @harris091172 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    i would make the stops go to the wooden frame of the trolley and not the wheel, as this is a lot of weight against the wheel.

    • @martinjensen3688
      @martinjensen3688  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Height is 145cm / 57"
      Width is 60cm / 23.6"
      Length is 200cm / 78.7"
      Height can be reduced with 10-20 cm if you are like my height (177cm).
      Width might be a good idea to increase to 70-80cm, but 60 will work.
      I'll be doing some minor modifications - will post video later. A mechanical stop (just a block of wood) mounted on the side of frame to prevent the trolley to go all the way to bottom and eventually crushing me (just in case). And the backrest I'll replace the hinge (which is not designed for such load) with a pipe similar to the adjustment.
