I remembered this channel again, google never suggests it to me even though I always click likes on Tim. Tim is the Oracle of the watchworld and his knowledge impressive I must say.
Carole Forestier-Kasapi is one of my all time favorite watchmakers!!So enjoyable to hear this period of Cartier outline and Carole acknowledged, thanks for this great overview Tim!
Love this episode! I wear the Santos ADLC as my daily, and it’s the perfect blend of sporty and elegant to suit most occasions during the day. Loved hearing more about the exclusive models from their past.
Cartier are well worth a full episode to themselves, and I really enjoyed this one. As for your thoughts on Hodinkee: I think you spoke for many of us who are saddened by its decline.
Tim, you make me excited about Mondays!! I have always said what you just did " I do not comprehend collectors paying double for a Rolex out of all the beautiful watches in the world" my mind is too small to comprehend.
Thank you Tim for sharing the history of Cartier. I am surprised that the woman who developed Cartier movements, Carol Furstier(spelling?) went to Tag Heuer. I would have expected AP, Patek, or Vacheron to have hired her right away!
Tim, great episode and education on how good Cartier is. I also appreciate you taking us through the history over the decades you really do your homework.
Thank you! And yes, we could have broken this out by model and era. There's too much with Cartier to cover even in this overly long episode, but I was happy to cover something a bit outside the mainstream of the YT watch channels. Best, Tim
After i made my first purchase dor a Cartier Santo WW0030,,, only than i realised they came a long way & the new models are super well made. The quick links removal is one of the best idea so far. Great show Tim. Thank for show my H.Moser wrist shot too! 😊
Those Smart Links are incredible. The parts are so small, but the assembly feels so solid. The release tabs on the back of the links are so flush that it's almost hard to see them at times. Best, Tim
Have owned and loved many Cartiers from the “jumbo” (😂) 29mm Panthere and tanks. But love my 38mm Santos XL which with 100m of water resistance is worn as a sports watch. For me, Cartier represents value as a luxury brand watch 👏🥃
Tim calling it for what it is on the H situation. some of these Cartiers are a dream, but I never could get behind the price policy of Cartier. They seem to put an extra 20 - 40 & upmark on everything if you compare it to comparable pieces, and the "design" pretense of Cartier does not justify that for me.
That's not true. The CPCP just get a lot of attention these days. Ten years ago, people talked about them and priced them like they were "absolute garbage." The quality of a watch is set from the day it's made, but perceptions change, and CPCP is benefitting from that now. I remember when Cartier had them on closeout and an aftermarket dealer wouldn't touch them without huge discounts.@@mr.personal-ity Best, Tim
Get a version of any given watch that's as close to the "core" look as possible. Oddly, it's not the special editions but the most orthodox and representative versions of a given model that become collectible. Special editions are only more desirable when there is no regular production version - think Crash or Pebble. Those only come along in small batches every couple of years, so all versions are coveted. Best, Tim
Great show as always, Tim! As a Hungarian, I especially appreciated the world champion Hungarian waterpolo players' picture in their new Omega watches✌. And yes, it's an Olympic sport and Hungary has the most gold medals❤💚👍.
Good narrative on Cartier Tim. Thank you Shawn. I would take the Cartier dive watch over Rolex any and every day. In your opinion, which company has the best customer service these days? 🥃🥃🥃
Best customer service likely falls to the smallest brands. Josh Shapiro, Aren Bazerkanian (Havid Nagan), and Dan Royter - guys like that - will take care of any problems directly with no middle men. As for larger brands, I hear both horror stories and tales of triumph, so who knows. I've seen people claim that JLC destroyed or lost their watches, and then I had a full restoration done with JLC; it was done quick, it was done well, and the price was reasonable. Best, Tim
That Cartier diver was absolutely amazing! But its dial was needlessly busy. Too much printing, the three date display, sub-seconds, etc. Honestly, I think that’s what killed it as I’ve read these complaints elsewhere. Simplify the dial and I think it wouldn’t have been discontinued. But Cartier, along with Piaget, Chopard, Montblanc, etc. are absolutely perfect for us non-snob connoisseurs! I look at the product, not necessarily the fact that the brand produces other stuff too.
@@tstewart3034 either way, it was ultimately an unsuccessful design, otherwise they wouldn’t have discontinued it. And most complaints I’ve read were about were about how overly busy the dial was. Divy the semantics up however way you like.
Cartier watches are just a classic.Hard to imagine a watch collection without one.
Master class on Cartier!
There's so much more, but I thought this would be a good start.
Best,
Tim
most impressive Watches Tonight episode. Thanks Tim.

As a Cartier owner this was an awesome episode Tim and Shawn. Thank you!
Really interesting show Tim - love the variety of your content. Many thanks
hey Tim, ive been watching you for years (watchuwant days) and Im still SO impressed by your presentation and eloquence. just insane.

Cartier watches are so diverse with astoundingly cohesive design language. One of the best watchmakers.
Loving the shots at Hodinkee. They have become quite cringe and are definitely severely declining.
The $5k travel clock was the beginning of the end…
@pavanbharteey7269 ah what a throw back. that was so funny.
Thanks for the warning. I have noticed a decline in Crown & Caliber videos. But for no person to answer the phone, that is a huge red flag.

“A brief history of Cartier” by Tim Mosso and Shawn on the Switcher. Outstanding delivery, gents. I regret missing this one live.

Tim, chock full of great knowledge as always. I feel like you could have done a separate show on each of the Cartier time periods/watches you covered!

I have a Carrier Santos 100 XL Chrono. Thick watch, but looks great and runs great. Love it and thanks for the topic.

Love love Cartier watches. The only issue I have is their best watches are all limited editions 😢
The only Cartier watches worth buying are CPCP, most anything else is absolute garbage.
@@mr.personal-ity while I don’t disagree with you I still love my Cartier Calibre Diver

As an owner of both the WSSA0037 and WSSA0039 - I love Cartier!
I would be worried that skeleton main barrel exposing the main spring.will release a lot of debris and grease into the case.

Cartier large watches were before their time. A la Jacob of today
you ok? You look thin & unwell, maybe run down/exhausted. yay to Cartier. Thanks

Because other people complained...it must be true. I'll get rid of mine tomorrow.
@@tstewart3034 when people complain they draw attention to the flaws in something. It must have been a slow seller as such.
@jumboJetPilot 90% is not a flaw. It's usually just preference and in America, nobody is ever satisfied.
