Did you have Nodes Of Yesod for your Commodore 64? 😇🕹👌 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= More from 1985: tinyurl.com/1985-C64-GAMES My Top Picks: tinyurl.com/CCGS-BEST-GAMES
One of my favourites - I never really got anywhere on it though! I bought it because the box art and packaging looked like an Ultimate title, and I wasn’t disappointed.
Oh wow I saw one of those computers once, with the little joystick thingie built into the keyboard? Never actually had the honour to play on one yet but hopefully there will be one on display at a future retro fair! Glad the game brought back some good memories 😇🕹️👌
Back in February 2012, i have played ARC OF YESOD for the first time on my Commodore 64. Just like NODES OF YESOD (this one), ARC OF YESOD was so complicated, i have never finished the whole game 😹. The game is, however, so brilliant, i would definitely like to play it again 😹👍🕹️. It even has a brilliant soundtrack 🎵🎶 😺👍. A big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.
I had to check those games out as I'd never heard of them before, but now I see exactly what you mean! I really need to start playing some C16 games as those two look great 😇🕹️👌
Yet another game I've never seen before! This looks like fun! I love platformer games that focus on exploration. I just wish these good ol' C64 games had maps like you have in modern day Metroidvania games... I get lost so easily! LOL I looked up Ultimate Play the Game... I don't remember seeing these games back in the day. Maybe they didn't offer them here in the USA. If that's so, that's a shame... it looks like they made some really nice games! Edit: Oh! And BTW... when I first saw the title in your video, I thought the same as you on pronunciation of the word, "Yesod". 🙂
Definitely a classic for it's day and highly rated amongst my friends who used to play this with me as kids. Never could complete the darned thing though. Yeah probably not many (or maybe none) from the Ultimate Play The Game series was ever released in the US in the early 80s... but you'll definitely have heard of them when they became 'Rare Ltd' and moved onto Nintendo games especially with GoldenEye 007! What a classic that was for the N64 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Oh yeah! Rare! Goldeneye was great! I'd play that with my friends after hanging out on a Friday evening! They also made some NES and SNES games like Donkey Kong Country!
Much appreciated, thanks Shaun - had some fun playing this. Still never managed to complete the darned thing, even with a few cheats here and there... that Red Spaceman kept nicking my alchiems and I'd never know where they were transported back to as once one is stolen it returns to it's original position.... so quickly became frustrated haha 😇🕹️👌
This was a platforming adventure classic, one of the better ones out there for sure. Not my preferred style of game, the only one of these to REALLY hook me to the point I won it was one you covered recently, Sacred Armour of Antiriad which generally had more flying then platforming anyway. But any fan of Monty Mole games will LOVE Yesod. It's a very UK style gem.
Antiriad is another classic - I spent a lot more time playing 'Underwurlde' or 'Starquake' for games of this genre, however I believe that the 'Ultimate Play The Game' developed titles were more UK based and it surprised me to learn recently that many over in the US had never heard of a lot of the titles produced by those guys. So many gems too! Check them out for sure 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Yes, games by Ultimate Play the Game were mostly unknown in North America at this time (ironic considering who the developer eventually became) except to pirates like me at the time. I dont think they published over here at all, not even sub-published by Mastertronic like many UK devs did.
God! This is a game I definitely owned (or at least played) at the time, but had managed to completely memory-hole until this video popped up on my recommended feed. It's unusual for me to see some gameplay and have only the vaguest memories of it, so I wonder if I borrowed it off a friend for a week or so rather than outright owned it? Anyway, I seem to recall it was a frustratingly tricky little game.
Thats the beauty of the Commodore 64 games... they can instanly unlock a memory, no matter how distant. Whether it be a clip of the game itself or even a couple of bars of the music soundtrack, these games can uncover a gaming time capsule in our minds eye. Brilliant 😇🕹️👌
The writers were a fan of wordplay "I.C.U.P.S." = Hiccups, Yesod = Dosey ect. The name of the character is taken from select names of the authors. Great game on the speccy too.
So the Moon has Earth-level gravity now? Maybe it's the effect of the monolith. Surely that would make the task of investigating it easier, though. Monoliths and monsters... So this was basically the _Dead Space_ of the eighties.
Now you're talking. Dead Space was one of my favourite horror games... still a classic. The 'Stamping' sound effect was one of the greatest noises ever added to any game hehe 😇🕹️👌
It does play superbly even after all these years but the genre doesn't appeal to everyone. Give it a whirl and see if there's still some nostalgic love for the game 😇🕹️👌
There's no mention of the timer in the instructions. Maybe it's supposed to be a score of sorts? "I survived for 4:30 minutes and collected 3 Aclhiems"?
I'd nearly find all of the alchiems only for that darned Red Spaceman to come along and steal one off me. I'm determined to complete this one someday, maybe on a live stream or something - that way Ill know if the time will run out 😇🕹👌
Superb games weren't they, I particularly liked the 'teleportation' aspect in Starquake and I also almost mapped the whole game onto Post-It notes with my friend back when we were kids, so plenty of memories there😇🕹️👌
Was frustrating to lose your 'alchiems' to that darned red spaceman. Some of the jumps were tough too... especially the platforms that are patrolled by those floating fish - you'd just bounce around everywhere and could be a pain in the backside especially if the red spaceman made an appearance! 😇🕹️👌

I'd forgotten this even existed. Played it for hours after school! Good memories!
There is also ARC OF YESOD.
And yes, it also came out for the
Commodore 64 and Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
😺👍🕹️
Good times, its those magical memories that ensure I'll continue this epic trip down memory lane 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Please do!!
Nodes of Yesod sounds more like a medical condition than a game 🩺
Certainly sounds like something you'd take antibiotics for a week with, thats for sure 😇🕹️👌
One of my favourites - I never really got anywhere on it though! I bought it because the box art and packaging looked like an Ultimate title, and I wasn’t disappointed.
Certainly has that same 'vibe' as in one of the Ultimate games... but you can certainly see where Odin got their inspiration from 😇🕹️👌
I met this game on the Enterprise 128 and loved it to bits and pieces, thanks for showcasing it.

As always my friend, great to hear that you also enjoyed this title - another classic for our beloved Commodore 64 😇🕹️👌🇫🇮
It's amazing how huge they could make these games back in the 8-bit days. And the game isn't on 37 disks to boot. :)
Incredibly talented those bedroom coders... always amazes me how they crammed so much into these games for such a limited amount of memory 😇🕹️👌
Love the art style, it reminds me of my C=16 games Sword of Destiny and Petals of Doom
I had to check those games out as I'd never heard of them before, but now I see exactly what you mean! I really need to start playing some C16 games as those two look great 😇🕹️👌

Starquake, Underwurdle, Nodes of Yesod and Arc of Yesod. The very best.
A great group of games that I enjoyed playing loads back when I was a kid 😇🕹👌
Another great video, thanks Cheeky!

Looks like the first metroidvania.
Sort of... but the whole map is open and available to you. Maybe the Sacred Armour Of Antiriad could be considered the first though 😇🕹️👌

I get called "Yesod" most of the time in my local, and that's just the lame one..
I've certainly been called 'You Sod' many times from siblings, thats for sure 😇🕹️👌
So that's how you play this game? I was more of a Underwurld and Starquake man myself.
Superb games weren't they, I particularly liked the 'teleportation' aspect in Starquake and I also almost mapped the whole game onto Post-It notes with my friend back when we were kids, so plenty of memories there😇🕹️👌
Comment for the algorithm.
Everything that helps is good, hehe cheers 😇🕹️👌
