Thanks for educating me and Irish toyota dealers here ... keep up amazing work!
Hey Anthony - you mention chips and tunes and how they stress the Prado 4 pot engines. Im just wondering if - given engine power comes from the amount of fuel being tipped in that even with a chip / tune there might be a fuel consumption figure that causes alarm? I have a 1GD (2016) Prado and when towing the camper is sitting around 13L/100 km on flat ground and no stupid head wind - surely that fuel load isnt stressing the engine (yep I got the engine remapped last year). Im looking for busts of power when needed occasionally. Ive heard of mates with BIG caravans and their Prado 150's are chewing 18L/100 km !?! - they must have the foot down to keep the rig moving and are pouring the fuel through to get the HP need to move the circus - now that engine must be stressed !! A race horse doesnt need to run fast all the time - its how hard they work and the duty cycle that should be the issue and a good indicator of that in a diesel should be it fuel consumption ? Am I way off the mark?
Usually the injectors should be running rich on cold start (like a choke). Most injectors problems are due to blockages from dirty fuel. Try diesel injector clean eg Moreys, Diesel Power. It should make a difference by the first tank.
Aoa anthony I have a hilux invincible 2010 205k miles done. There is a leak on the egr valve seal. Which i once cleaned the egr and intercooler and all and replaced the seal. However the leak propped up again. There is also a mist of smoke that comes out one i open the top oil cap but it goes away once open. And a very slight oil droplets coming out from there. And i havnt changed my injectors. What do you reckon
I’ve got blue smoke on start up, that disappears within 10 - 20 seconds I’ve driven the car downhill under load to see if there was smoke to eliminate valve guides, there was zero smoke. I had the injectors doe about 30,000k’s ago, car has 135,000km , I’m thinking that it maybe injector seals are shot and allowing oil to drip pass. Any clues or advice will be great fully appreciated. Am going to book it in at a local diesel guru soon anyway . Whilst I doubt the issue is catastrophic ATM the issue needs fixing.
I am no expert but I was chatting with a dealer about injector job and unless you bring it to toyota specialist like prado hospital or main dealer I wouldn't allow anyone to go near the injectors as I heard horror stories... it has to be clean neat job torqued to spec no contamination... there are a lot of diesel gurus but good ones are hard to find ... otherwise you need to get job done twice ...
Just found your channel and find it very informative. Just curious, what brand of injectors do you recommend for the 2010 hilux. Denso or after market ? Cheers Gaz
Hi Anthony. Looking some advice here. I'm in the Caribbean. (Antigu) ..have a Hilux with a kd1-ftv engine. I have to put oil in every week and it's burning fuel like crazy. I'm wondering if it's the injectors..it's blowing white smoke and losing power. I'm wondering if it's a cracked piston as well. What do you think? The injectors were changed like 2 years ago

Great chat mate I've noticed tapping noise in my 120 much more noticeable when engine is cold hopefully charging injectors will solve thanks
