that's crazy. I got brought to ED after falling doing a skateboard trick. It was also my left arm that broke although I didn't have to have the neck brace. I also hate needles but I let them do an IV and honestly sitting for 3 days with an IV in (i only learned on the 3rd day that they take the needle out once the IV is in) low key cured my hatred of needles. No more pit in my stomach at the thought.

One of my favorite episodes of Chicago med, they depict the other side of the opioid crisis. Meaning chronic pain patients have to suffer the consequences of being under medicated because some people choose to abuse. Less than 1% of pain patients abuse their pain medication. This young man try to get his father pain medication because his father was forced tapered, he had a bad back due to a major car accident.

When you’re in that much pain I would get ten injections to make it stop. I know because I had to go to ER for migraine episodes before and I don’t like needles too.

Would never just give pills for this,would say well the needles going to hurt a lot less than the pain your already having…we hardly ever give oral meds,unless it’s Tylenol or something that isn’t given IV except up in the intensive care unit…especially if a kid is sick or hurt enough to be in the trauma bay,they’re usually too sick or hurt to swallow pills ( I’m a nurse in a pediatric ER ,mostly in the critical care end)
