Yes, Nightwish is considered symphonic metal, although many of us simply say that Nightwish has become its own genre at this point! Floor is 183 cm, or a bit over 6' tall, probably standing close to 6'5" in the boots she's wearing onstage. She considers Ever Dream one of the more challenging songs to perform, (I think, not sure on this part) because she's belting so high the whole time, when usually a singer would be using head voice that high.
Keep enjoying your exploration of Nightwish's Wacken 2013 show - if you want to hear something a little heavier and get to hear Marko (the bassist) doing a bit more on the vocals, Romanticide is a definite banger. Or for something slightly more traditionally-structured, with pure Floor vocals, it's definitely Storytime.

What a lovely reaction. Honestly, brought a small tear in my eye for two reasons: Nw always does that plus watching your heartfelt reaction to the song. Thank you. NW army Finland greets you. Welcome to the family.

I think Nightwish and Floor are shaking your foundation in music - excellent 😁
Go on Gabriel's list, or just ask us what you want to experience - slow emotional ballads, power ballads, happy music and maybe with som celtic touch, incredible epic deep stories that have never ever imagined existed, harder metal like - they have it all, and we are here to help you and enjoy your ride together with you. 👍
And an excellent reaction from you 👍 - you are honest all the way, and your facial expressions tells how you feel 👍
    Greetings from Nightwish Army Denmark 🇩🇰 👍 💪 🤘 🤘 🤘

Most Nightwish videos have subtitles, for beautiful lyrics. They elevate songs even more, since duality (or more) of interpretations leave most of us with different message, almost every song can carry a discussion about the meaning.

    • @marieskavo7159
      @marieskavo7159 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think you have an excellent point here for Mr. Hillbilly, who often has mentioned himself as considering metal as "devil music". While there is that around as well, you can never take NW songs at face value, especially the lyrics. They almost always carry two or even three layers or more on their meaning.

I too started out listening exclusively to country music. It's what my grandparents listened to, it's what my dad played (guitar) and sang. However, around puberty (imagine that!), I started listening to more rock and disco music, primarily because of hearing it at the roller skate rink and also on my school bus. I found what you found, that I had been lied to about how all rock music is evil. That's just not true. My grandparents especially didn't like the direction my musical taste had taken, until I played for them a song by Kansas, Dust in the Wind. I think they were somewhat awestruck to be honest. I never heard another complaint about listening to rock music after that. Have fun on your Nightwish journey...I think you're gonna like it!

05:11. Kansas was Progressive Rock. Like Yes, and The Allen Parson’s Project. They were the first concert I ever saw live. Their music touched my soul instantly and it stays with me to this day
Big ups on getting the Wacken pronunciation right. Lots of folks miss that.
You’re one of us now my friend. Floor & Toumas have worked their magic on ya.😁
That whole concert is glorious. 💙
05:52 so, you noticed that Marco can sing his ass off too, huh?? 🤣🤣
So, I just wanted to point out Floor’s Costume change during the Wacken 2013 show. It took me a long time to notice it, but once you see it, the moment is obvious, and a little funny.
Pull up a TH-cam of the full show. Floor, for the first 10 song (thru Nemo)is in leather pants with some sort of half cape that covers her butt from her waist down. And her top is also leather with slender straps, and metal studs across the upper half of her breast cups. And a larger clusters of these studs resting between her breasts. This is her first costume.
She is not on stage at all during Last of the Wilds.
When she returns for Bless the child she is outfit #2. This is a skirt with broader straps and a sort of metal studded epaulettes on the shoulders, and each of her bare arms have 3 chains draped on each.
At 1:20 during Bless the Child she makes her entrance from offstage. You’ll notice her hurry out and flail once at the mic before she actually gets it and has it out of the holder. She is a second away from being late on her vocals.
I’m sure my names and descriptions of the wardrobe are poor at best, but you’ll notice what I’m talking about once you look.
    💙💙💙All Hail Floor !! 💙💙💙

The reason she had to run to the mic is because there was a costume mishap. The zipper under her left arm jammed and she went out anyway. You can see it isn't zipped up all the way. It is like that for the next several songs and only during the interlude in Ghost Love Score do they get to fix it offstage.

Some recommendations for your Nightwish journey:
All of the Wacken 2013 concert (really, no bad songs there)
The Greatest Show On Earth (live at Tampere)
    The Poet and the Pendulum
    Noise
    Shoemaker
And for some mandatory Nightwish facts:
The group is from Finland, the vocalist name is Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen). She is Dutch, and a third vocalist of the group, after Tarja Turunen (Tarya) and Anette Olzon. Tarja was singing in a full opera voice, Annette was more pop, and Floor is a mix of both (and the best).
The experience of hearing Floor for the first time is called Floorgasm :D

Love your reactions first of all! May I be so bold (as a somewhat "former hillbilly" who has lived among the city folk) when you say "she scares me" you also mean that you are awed by her ability, and are fascinated by her beauty and talent? This music must seem so alien to you but seems like home at the same time. That is how I felt. Regardless, whether I'm right or wrong, I love that you are keeping yourself open to new things. Where I was from (mtns. of NC) this was somewhat frowned upon. I hope you continue your NW journey. I only gets better, my friend. Cheers.

FYI Floor is a Highly Sensitive Person so that means she is like an Empath. This is Floor's 3rd band and Nightwish's 3rd and final singer. You should checkout some of her covers . Her Channel has 2 big things Story Time and Floor Finds. Story Time is about her and Floor Finds is about her and 1 Person discussing one subject. Marco the bassist has an amazing voice. Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of all the songs. The bassist has been around since 1983 he turned 55 in January and Floor is the babybat 40 now. There is another one call Fan Fridays.

The writer of the songs by Nightwish is Tuomas (except for a few exceptions). Tuomas is the guy on keyboards. (pronounced Too-omas) This song is about Tuomas not have found his true love (yet). It is a love song to his future love. _"Come out, come where ever you are"_

Well... most record labels control what is being played on radio etc, so much music goes under the radar. I believe in the states it's more so?
Before Facebook, TH-cam etc the only way you could learn about a band was from friends and some random review, so I can understand you get the feeling of living under a rock.

Tuomas the Keyboardist composes and writes 95% of music & lyrics. He is influenced by poetry, science, nature, and humanity. Often very deep & meaningful, sometimes hard to grasp exactly but he has said he wants people to get whatever they need and feel from their music.
Here are lyrics to this one though :)
    Ever felt away with me
Just once that all I need
Entwined in finding you one day
    Ever felt away without me
My love, it lies so deep
    Ever dream of me
Would you do it with me?
Heal the scars and change the stars
Would you do it for me?
    Turn loose the heaven within
    I'd take you away
    Castaway on a lonely day
    Bosom for a teary cheek
My song can but borrow your grace
    Ever felt away with me
Just once that all I need
Entwined in finding you one day
    Ever felt away without me
My love, it lies so deep
    Ever dream of me
    (Dream of me)
Come out, come out wherever you are
    So lost in your sea
Give in, give in for my touch
For my taste, for my lust
    Ever felt away with me
Just once that all I need
Entwined in finding you one day
    Ever felt away without me
My love, it lies so deep
    Ever dream of me
    Your beauty cascaded on me
    In this white night fantasy
    (Dream of me)
    Ever felt away with me
Just once that all I need
Entwined in finding you one day
    Ever felt away without me
My love, it lies so deep
    Ever dream of me
    - repeat-

Hi Man, thank you for such an honest and frank reaction! Nightwish' music is quite exceptional, and most of their songs are amazing and unique, and different from what they have made before. I think you are in for quite some more surprises; pleasant ones, Sir!
This concert in 2013 was unique for many reasons, but it was sooo good!
I think you will like Storytime (same concert). If you want to hear completely different vocals: try Romanticide (one of their rougher songs, but I like the 'sound effects' of Floor and Marko.
Also, definitely true The Greatests Show on Earth and The Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley). Again, totally different. Keep going, please.

Welcome to the world of Symphonic Metal... Nightwish being symphonic metal allows them to take their music in several different directions.. They have the longer, epic, grand production type songs like GLS, but they also have several of the more classic sounding metal style songs as well... and just about everything in between.. They even have songs that have a bit of that Celtic rock kind of vibe.. But no matter the basic style of song they are going for, their songs all have those signature symphonic elements that gives it that extra rich, fullness to the music's sound.. Nightwish is a very Live type of experience.. Which is not a problem for reactors because there has to be about a hundred different Nightwish songs out there on TH-cam in an official live video format recorded from a show from somewhere in the world... Follow Gabriel's suggestions list or choose a different order it's not a problem, the Nightwish Army love it all.. A bit of warning, some of the older Nightwish performances that say HD are recordings that have been re-encoded to try and enhance the video quality, unfortunately the process also slowed the video playback a few percent.. Hardly noticeable for a first time reaction but quite noticeable to a person that has heard the song at the correct speed.. So, be careful if you stray from Gabriel's links, you may not want to pick a link just because it say HD.. Have fun and enjoy...

Now reviewed both reactions you’ve pretty much shown the exact emotions that someone whom has never heard of symphonic metal before. The disbelief of never knowing that kinda music ever existed. You’re right we or should I say you’ve been lied to. Don’t get me wrong from the previous message I left you about our music over here sucks. It’s just Nightwish is sooo damn good at what they sound like. It’s just a shame we don’t get NO radio play for music like this. Will never get it unless it falls into your lap from a suggestion thru this source. My sister lives in Hartwell Georgia and they to never knew or heard of Nightwish till I mentioned them. We’re in bubble of only getting to hear what is only promoted for our listening. Rap, R&B pop or just mix rock. I wished I knew this band 20 yrs ago but the current singer Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen) really fits the band’s sound and appearance and of course here outstanding stage presence that drew me in.
I love my Metallica, Motley Crue, Distrubed, and all the classic rock bands. But this band is now and has been my go to more than any other. I’m enjoying your reactions so far and looking forward to seeing more of your journey. 🤘🍻

@@gillandianyt3920 yes that’s true for anyone’s search engine for TH-cam. But the music scene on the regular radio play is very strict to what is played or offered. Unless there are other platforms such Sirius or Spotify that ones taste for. Nightwish has a few good radio style of songs that should be aired but our music scene still won’t allow such a platform. My opinion is that many will want more of it if played. Look what happened with Ramstien. All their songs are in German and they took off over here. Nightwish would flourish if they had the same amount of AirPlay. Just saying

You haven't been lied to, you simply didn't have the radio stations in your area willing or able to play other types of music. Just like in the 50's-60's when playing rock and roll on the radio was considered an abomination. We don't have any country or metal music stations here, but thanks to the powers of the internet, we all can enjoy whatever music genre we like.

If you think you've been lied to about this genre, I look forward to the day you discover Porcupine Tree, Opeth, and Dream Theater!! Cheers for the journey of discovery you are on!

    Sooooooo….. 🤪🤣🤣🤣
Tarot is Marko’s (the blonde bassist that sings in Nightwish) own band with his brother and his friends where he grew up. They’re classic metal (formed in 1986). There are too many favourites to list, but Wings Of Darkness 2011 and you should check out the original of it for a lark 🤪🤣
Delain is in the same genre as Nightwish - Stay Forever, Frozen, We Are The Others, Suckerpunch are all favourites of mine.
Xandria is also in this vein, Ravenheart and Valentine are two different vocalists within that band, these are two of my favourites.
Sabaton is different, they’re considered power metal, and the focus on historically correct writing about war. All sides of wars/battles are topics, they are not pro-naziism or anything like that. Just speaking about war in general. Ghost Division, 40-1, Uprising, Carolus Rex, The Last Stand, The Lost Battalion, Resist And Bite, To Hell And Back, 7734, and Blood Of Bannockburn are all favourites.
Rammstein and Megaherz are both (Industrial?) German metal bands I like, but maybe they’re too far out for you, so I won’t list songs.
Van Canto is neat, I’d recommend Rebellion (cover of a band called Gravedigger); Water, Fire, Heaven, And Earth; Primo Victoria (cover of Sabaton); and Seller Of Souls are favourites from them. There’s a surprise I can’t ruin that comes with these guys (and gal).
Lastly, Heavatar is an offshoot of Van Canto. Replica and Elysium At Dawn are favourites there.
