A ballad dedicated to the New Orleans legend, Marie Laveau. As a young boy, growing up in South Louisiana, in the 70's, the older folks would tell us tales of her to keep us from misbehaving. Growing up, I learned a bit more about her, and realized she wasn't the scary voodoo queen we were led to believe as children. As a young adult, I visited her grave in New Orleans. It was poignant. A moment of reflecting on how her life may have really been. I never heard a ballad about her, so I made one - after all these decades. I intentionally made it sound simple and raw. I found it to be more fitting. Here's to you, Marie.
