For some reason I hear old Stratovarius in this tune, and a pinch of Sonata Arctica in the bridge. Tasty classic powermetal in my ears 🤘

There's still good music made in this world. We have to look for it. Heavy Metal is the genre to serach. It's so refreshing when we listen to this guys, for example, so energetic. Good reaction guys !
So, with the synths being in their music now, the band members say that those synth riffs are there to fill in the gap of the overall sound of the music. Very good choice they made, because it sounded epic!
When Britney sings: 'I am the weapon of empires past' (or passed, either works), I just imagine tens of thousands of young women getting into metal and rock and that makes me so, so, so happy.
The more equality in metal, the better.
Especially when most guys would struggle mightily to measure up to this majesty.
Pretty sure it's "empires vast".
"Past" was the last word in the previous line.
Edit: it's the harmonies Brittney belts out that get me throughout their entire discography. The entire Abyss album is incredible, my personal favourite being "The wind that shapes the land".
It's not like it's a competition. Let them be badass, the more the better.

This song is really, really good. The story from Apex was a lot of fun and I can't wait to see where it goes now that it's moving into the sci-fi realm. Cool how the added synth element fits in with the setting of the story they're telling.

Been waiting for your reaction to this since the video came out last week, and I was not disappointed. The album is still a couple of months away, but I feel confident that it will be a strong contender for album of the year.

I’ve seen reactions to them plastered all over my home page but this is my first time actually listening. I don’t even really listen to power metal but I loved this 🤟🏻
There are so many great power metal bands out there now. Battle Beast, Beast in Black, Powerwolf, Unleash the Archers, Sabaton, Kamelot....
They are like a power metal and classic metal mix. Think Iron Maiden crossed with Stratovarius.

Thanks guys for a reaction that FINALLY hits the nail right on the head! This is definitely a fusion of classic and power metal at its finest. For all the naysayers, Apex took us on a journey of epic proportions and Awakening was only one song of ten on that album. In addition, there were different styles of songwriting throughout that album to reflect the mood of the particular piece of the story they were telling. Seeing some of the teaser videos in the studio, Abyss will certainly follow suit. I am very happy for them and this amazing song....such a classic feel with a modern twist. Certainly worth the wait in my humble opinion!!
Yeah, Abyss is another concept album taking place 50 years after Apex. Brit was talking about it on twitch the other day. From the sounds of it the album is more sci-fi than Apex but will still have a good amount of fantasy feel. I'm looking forward to the story they tell and like you said the different styles of songwriting reflecting the mood of each piece.
With how absolutely incredible Apex was and hearing her talk about the new album and her genuine excitement around it and hearing this track. I'm sure it'll be another killer record.

Hey guys! This album, I think, is a straight homage to DragonForce: "Summon the strength of millenniums past/Forged in the fires and flame."
This song is, IMHO, a lot like Awakening -- hence the reason why I call it an homage to DragonForce. And Brittney's voice is so, so strong -- I really want to hear all of the other songs on the album!
Lastly, I dont know if either of you know, but Abyss drops August 21! I found that out from the General of Metalandia herself, Brittney Slayes, when she reacted to Abyss with Heath, aka Mr. Rock N Roll.

I love powermetal, this band is one of my favorites for the past 2 years. Love the content guys.
Honestly, this whole album is such a banger. It starts off with a gut punch and just keeps swinging. The whole album keeps the momentum from the first song, while still creating different moods with each song. Each track fits together perfectly, and the whole album ends up telling an epic story. This album is a masterpiece, and I really think more people should know about it.
This song makes my Lost Horizon heart happy
When I clicked on this I KNEW he would giggle at the intro scream Brittney does in this song :)
The outfit of Britney reminds the outfit of Uma Thurman in the movie "Kill Bill", that last one whose was a sort of tribute to the outfit of Bruce Lee in the movie "Game of Death". :)

The real question is what do they do to their bass players that they all leave. Her vocals are amazing. First part of the solo is shredder mode the second part is more melodic part.
Their bassist Nico left in 2017 because he could not afford to live in Vancouver and pay extra $ to tour. Their touring bassist now lives in Ontario and has many other commitments with other projects. Also, Brittney said in an interview recently that the 4 of them are such a tight knit group right now that adding a permanent bassist to that mix is not being considered.
I’m surprised you guys haven’t checked out Trick or Treats most recent record; The Legend of XII Saints! So melodic and beautiful and heavy!

I like this concept album follows on from apex O and out of 100 percent of reactors I have watched for this song as I love this song and band only probably 1 or 2 of them mention that the bass player was missing
They don’t have a permanent bass player anymore, so no surprise that there isn’t a bass player in the video
My first question for Britney and the whole band would be: How was it to travel through a black hole?

The bass player for this album is a friend of theirs as their Apex bassist left in 2017
They're not going out on the road, so there's no hurry. The synth makes up for it.

It's not like the song has no bass. They don't have a full time bass player. Not the first or last to have session player fill in on the bass.

The song takes a while to get into but I start to feel it after about half way through. It's not one of my favorites either but I do really like the band.
Guys,while "Apex" ,last album by UTA was a pure masterpiece in my opinion and "Awakening' has been one of the best metal songs ever created ,this song is... so average and disappointing that it makes me angry. They sound like a damn metal ABBA band and it makes me furious.I love this band,I would really want to at least like this song but I can't. And the video is horrible!!!!!
Definitely agree with you about awakening but i think you're a bit harsh on this song,its a cool song, standard power metal but it's still cool.
