    Rod Strickland was my guy.
I was a freshman in High school when he was in the League, and watching him play was like watching Kyrie today, it was magic. I felt like no one can stop them but themselves. This was long overdue to hear my guy.

I was at that draft. Shelton Jones thought he was gonna be drafted higher but didn't go until the early 2nd round Mark Jackson was in the crowd and came down to support his former teammate the same way Kenny Smith supported him the year before when he went 18th. We were shocked when the Knicks took Rod. We thought they were picking for another team and were even more shocked when they kept him.

38:51 I haven’t seen this in years but this reminded me that there’s a clip of Rod puking 🤮 during the game. I believe he was with Washington then.
Rod’s one of my all time favs no doubt. I sorta now accept that “New York” aspect of him. Let me give an example. During the end of his career he was playing for the Wolves. I was living in Minnesota at the time. He comes into the barbershop. We’re like “oh snap, it’s Rod Strickland”. He’s not being arrogant but he’s not necessarily super friendly either. Just have some small talk, “yall on the road this week. How is it here here so far”. He’s giving short answers
He gets done in the barber chair, looks and proceeds to walk out. My boy is like, hey, hey, like “you didn’t pay”. Rod goes,”oh it’s like that” not in a “do you know who I am” But sorta acting startled but he know he walked out. My barber is like, “yo.. You could have at least dropped off some tickets or something as you walked out. But hell yeah man, you gotta pay. You gotta”. In a joking way
Rod basically gives him a $50 and as ol boy is counting back the change he’s like, “keep it”.
Never saw him again lol. But again, Rod’s still my man and was it on court. He should have made the 97 I believe all star team. Washington was balin crazy then.
The school he coaches now, my little cousin plays on their baseball team.
