  • Makarand Paranjape is a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University's (JNU) Centre of English Studies (CES). On February 6, Paranjape was not allowed to enter his own office because a group of students who are members of the Jawaharlal Nehru Students Union were protesting at the School of Languages. Consulting editor Anand Ranganathan and Paranjape discuss the incident. Find out how Paranjape tried to reason with the students and why he touched the students' feet.

But professor paranjape has really shown us.. Its actually possible to be leaning on both sides and still remain neutral... His delicate sense of intellectual balance amazes me... I hope the nut heads at jnu can get more out of him... Rather than making him sit on sidelines

I am very impressed by him. So many books he has wrote. Teaching for 16+ years. So logical. This is how Professors needs to be. I mean they shape Bhaarat. JNU thoda bhi Bhaarat centric hota toh Kanhiya omar sheila jaise jehadio ko na sirf blacklist karta lekin ye ensure karta ki Bhaarat ke kisi bhi Private ya Public sector mein aisi gandagi ko kabhi koi job na mile. Unlike west, bhaarat must have centric working department who controls jobs and can deprive maggots feeding of Bhaarat's resources. Simple

I remember listening to Paranjape at a seminar about 20 years back. He remains the same: enthusiastic, full of energy, scholarly and yet unassuming. Very down to earth. A disarming honesty. He could be Right leaning but the Right would be wrong to appropriate him for itself. His erudition and fierce independence of mind make him beyond reach of the Right.
