Hello from MN. Just seeded bare dirt with TTTF just before Labor Day. Patience is crucial during overseeing. Love the content and keep it coming, please!
how is your lawn looking now? i seed on the 19th and my lawn is still looking a little thin. i over seeded the bare spots with blue grass and ima wait and see if it feels in.
It’s funny because your videos came up a week after I did a 30k sqft reno at my house. Using Barenbrug RTF. Normally this time of year is great but it’s been 80+ and dry in Ohio for weeks. I’m watering 3 times a day and it’s still barely coming up. Your video helped me to remember to be patient. 👍🏼
I am in Maryland and this past Summer was brutal to my lawn (no irrigation system). Chasing the hose was not cutting it and my lawn died. I started a renovation at the beginning of this month and I am looking at my bare spots like "when are you going to start". I am trying to stay the course.
Here in NJ soil temp just hit 68 to 70 degrees and withing the next few days reseeding after a scalp, dethatch & aerate. 2 days of labor followed by constant light watering and no vacation for the next 2 to 3 weeks ... lol. The lawn owns me I don't own it. Geeeze
Even better......hold off on the starter fert for about 5-7 days. 2 reasons: keeps the existing mature grass from crazy growth and the new seed doesn't really need the fert in the very early stage.
Thank you so much for watching. So glad you enjoyed it, makes it all worth it. Not easy to film everything when its hot and you’re tired, lol. I highly recommend a pre emergent in the early spring. Ive never had an issues with the pre emergent affecting the roots(aka root pruning). Its probably the single most important application you will make all year. Great question!!
If you are low, make sure you use a starter fertilizer at time of seeding. If you’re low, just make sure every time you fertilize you have a high Phos fert. I have low phos too, I apply starter fertilizer almost year round.
It will germinate. Grass seed can germinate with no soil at all. But for the long term health just be working to get all of your macro nutrients in optimal range. Don’t stress too much about it. Just make sure when you are making applications that you want to choose fertilizers that move your nutrients in the right direction. Phos and Potassium move very slow through the soil. Nitrogen on the other hand, only hangs around for a short period of time
I completed my overseed on 9/1-9/2… I usually lay down a pre-emergent in the fall. Was planning on Dimension for the fall application. Ok to do with all the new baby grass or should I skip and just do my usual spring application. Not sure if there would be any effect on the new grass.
Putting down a pre emergent that soon would absolutely effect your new grass and could cause issues. I would wait until spring. I would hate to see you damage your lawn. If Poa is what your after, try using a PGR called Anuew. It severely reduces seed head production and will keep what poa you do have below the canopy. Best of luck!!!
Great question, hard to know what “some” means. I usually against adding more seed after initial seeding. I recommend trusting that you did the original seed correctly. But you know your lawn. Be careful with 28% N on baby grass. You could potentially damage the baby grass with that much N. Id like to see you go with a granular until the turf has had a chance to mature. Best of luck!
So I have squirrels digging in my top dressing/ levelling project. Grass has not germinated yet. Is it ok to re-level dirt or should I just leave it and let it run its course and deal with it after it grows in?
@@TheDIYLawnCoach will it affect the seeds germinating? I have kept soil moist. & yes, I know those pests will be back, but figured it MAY help. I’ve also put out garden stuff that moves (with wind) to try and help deter them away also. (Probably won’t help)
As long as you are gentle and dont burry the seed, it wont affect it. Unfortunately because of the squirrels, not much you can do. Try not to let it bother you. If you’re not planning on mowing really low, you not going to notice any way.
Great information there. Thank you for the video!
Absolutely, thank you for taking the time to watch

Absolutely, thank you for the kind words. Big things are coming soon. Stay tuned! Glad to have you part of the channel.

I’ll post an update later today. Its look fantastic honestly. Its killing me not to mow it, back to that thing called “patience”, LOL

That is fantastic! It turned dry here to. Hope your reno turns out well. One day of rain and BAM, it will come up. Just keep with the process. 😁

@@nikjohnson3227you were not alone. This summer was awful. Best of luck, weather will turn around soon!!

But when the neighbors ask what you did to get such a beautiful lawn, that makes it all worth it. Best of luck with your project

🤫
Great advice but just a day late. I just threw down fert today.
Great series! What are your thoughts about a pre-emergent in the spring affecting the roots of the new grass?

What's the best way to raise the phosphorus before reseeding? My test shows low thanks

@TheDIYLawnCoach ok, I just wasn't sure how well the seed would germinate with it being low. Thanks

I have some germination and other barespots do you thibk I can reseed and liquid fertilize the seeds with 28-0-0?

Dang Squirrels!! I would try to level if you can. But chances are they will be back.

Time for a have a heart cage and relocate them as I have after they were invading my attic.
