@Daniel Laricella The OP was calling Legends Luke`s general arc "a disaster",not the relationship with Mara-Jade in particular.Granted,I still disagree but both Legends Luke and Sequel Trilogy Luke in different ways betray the promise of The Character at the end of "Return of the Jedi".
Unlike others, I don't despise how Luke is portrayed in the sequels. It could work, if there was more context on what happened between ROTJ and the sequels. I could totally see Luke growing disillusioned if several of his jedi pupils turned dark, and caused havoc. The problem is the conplete lack of information we have about that time period.
Completely agree. It's not that Luke is disillusioned; its that we have little to no background as to how this happened. I want to see the tragedy, hardship, and utter defeat that led to this outcome. The single flashback we got? Sorry, not enough. Maybe if they had the flashbacks interspersed throughout the movie and him trying to kill Kylo Ren was the last straw, but it was a growing danger and darkness that pervaded his life.

She beat Luke in a lightsaber duel with no formal training for gods sake! She beat Kylo Ren every time. I love Luke and hate the entire Rey trilogy. It needs to be erased from Star Wars cannon, Legends and erased period!
@Aeternalis Armentarius you forget that after emphatically telling his father "I will not fight you." He not only fights him, but nearly kills, after his sister is threatened. In ESB Luke abandoneds his Jedi training to "save" his friends after seeing one possible future. Knowing full well that the path he's chosen could lead to Dark Side. "If you end your training now, if you choose the quick and easy path, as Vader did, you will become an agent of evil." So Luke sees a vision of his sister dying, he sees the destruction of everything he ever loved, and he reacts to it and draws his lightsaber, this is completely within character. And this is the important part, Luke doesn't carry through with the attack, he stops himself. But Luke like is father before him ends up causing the future he was trying to prevent. And Luke arc follows a mythopoetic structure as well as paralleling many mythic heroes. "If you look at any classic hero's myth that is actually worth its salt, at the beginning of the hero's journey, like with King Arthur, he pulls the sword from the stone and he's ascendant - he has setbacks but he unites all the kingdoms. But then if you keep reading, when it deals with the hero's life as they get into middle-age and beyond, it always starts to get into darker places. And there's a reason for that: It's because myths are not made to sell action figures; myths are made to reflect the most difficult transitions we go through in life." - Rian Johnson
@@lukerope1906 He got shafted. Besides the fact there was no real reunion in the movie of the original cast in either Ep. The only person to say that was Gary Kurts, who was a known liar just like David Prowse (who you can see a clip on youtube of him calling James Earl Jones a "negro"). George wasn't focused on money, Gary was spreading around lies out of spite for being fired. In fact, George was going through a finalized divorce at the end of ROTJ, and that money from toys was just making his evil X's wallet FAT. please make a clarification in annotations or something. Too much misinformation from George's haters is spread around but disproven in books like making of star wars/empire/ROTJ.
Well, also(I may be wrong, but Im pretty sure there is a documentary on netflix about this), but the toy sales of star wars were extremely low for Lucas himself. This was due to the toy makers contract taking a TON(it was above 90%... I think... but dont quote me, it's been a while since I watched it) of the percentage of the profits because they hadnt worked out a proper contract until after star wars was released and became a hit. The toy manufacturers forced Lucas into a really really bad deal, but the movie was a hit, and they needed toys. Its speculated that part of the reason that the Prequels took so long to come out was because Lucas was waiting for the contract to expire, which is supported by the fact that The Phantom Menace was announced only a year or a few after it expired.
@@MrSeals1000 what documentary. Also the reason Lucas took so long is he needed a break. I know many want to paint him as a hack and some boogie man who's a greedy evil man,but hes just a guy who put his heart and soul into his file. You know episode 4? He was told to stop working on that by his doctor after he was sent to the doctor fro over working and almost having a heart attack. He just went back to work the same day. Between making a trilogy, running lucasfilms and other companies like thx, and divorce and being a single dad after his bitch wife left him, he needed to rest. And he did. Hell even by the time he was ready to work again he didn't want to direct. He tried getting Ron Howard, speilberg and others to, ut everyone was afraid of living up to the hype,so Lucas did it himself. He's not flawless, but I hate how many demonize him. I do love Luke's death in TLJ. The first time Luke sees Leia is her being projected asking for help. The last time Leia sees Luke is him being projected when she desperately needed help.
If anyone is looking to learn more about behind the scenes and making of the original trilogy I recommend the book Star Wars FAQ by Mark Clark. Very nice video by the way.
Then came Mandalorian. Also while it is hard to tell who is responsible I may have an interesting Idea. I asked Ivan Orgtea about doing a proof of concept special editons for the films using elements of his re-edits. I even talked with TH-camr Star Wars Rebel Leader prior to it and he liked the ideas I gave him. Ivan said he was interested though first he was going to take a break.
Mark Hamill also rebutted those comments because he was still under contract to appear in The Rise of Skywalker, so another words take those comments back or you don't get paid LOL he absolutely Fuckin hated what they did to his character.
As a blonde haired man I’d be him when he’s younger 19-23 and go on Adventures. My name Lukas comes from Luke and I’m 6 feet 2 inches tall but would not mind being 5 feet 8 inches being him is a dream
Luke in Episode 8 is 100% true to Luke's character and it's rather sad that you live in a bubble trying to make yourself better just because you can't grow up.
I'm in the middle when it comes to the argument of whether or not Luke was ruined in TLJ. On one side, I don't see Luke as ruined (or completely ruined) in TLJ because years have gone by and he's learned more about the Jedi Order's past. Why would he be the exact same as in ROTJ except in age? At the same time, I can see why some argue that his character is ruined, because he did stuff that he wouldn't have done in the past, like attempting to strike down Ben Solo because of the Dark Side. At least he realized his error in judgement, but it was still too late
I'll be honest, the only parts of TLJ I liked were the parts with Luke. Most of what he said was just stuff the fans have been saying for years; i.e. the Jedi are a bunch of sanctimonious failures who are too narrow minded to survive. And I mean, he tried to strike down his own Dad in anger, it's not impossible that he would be nudged by the dark side again.
What you meant to say is, Luke’s story arc and ending was completely squandered to give Rey the finale. Luke should have been there, alive to support her. Rey had no business facing multiple with lords alone and it made absolutely no sense.

Fun fact I’m pretty sure Hamill still doesn’t like how Luke was written in TLJ. He hates the film lol
Just try quoting anything he said about that and a TLJ defender will say your taking him out of context...And not explain what that context is.
Considering his most recent tweet thanking Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni for bringing back hero Luke in the way they did in "The Mandalorian" is proof he wasn't happy with the way Johnson saw Luke. There's a video out there where Johnson is talking about the film and Mark just has this look of utter disbelief.
@@Edax_Royeaux there’s a 25 minute video of him hinting at the fact that he doesn’t like it. And one video where he is “complimenting” Rian but really he’s just kinda throwing shade for how badly his character was treated

@Hans... exactly mate, how tf did Luke go from this badass guy who saw the good in everyone to a pathetic loner who tried to kill his nephew in TLJ???
@@Theratron Luke didn't try to kill him just like he said in the movie.
It was from Kylo's perspective that he wanted to kill him.
Luke had a dark instinct from a horrible vision he had, and I mean truly horrible, way worse than the thought he had in ROTJ which almost caused him to kill his own father which he had wanted to save for the entire later part of the movie.
@@aerophine_66 It was from Kylo's perspective.
@@aerophine_66 He didn't try to kill his nephew, he saw what he could become and acted upon impulse, but realized what he was doing was wrong and did not go through with it. He didn't act upon it.
He should’ve HAD a bigger part in the Force Awakens, who cares about Rey
Had she been written right I would but she was written to be the most powerful Jedi within hours of finding out she had the force. Unlike Luke, she never loses or faces adversity. She beat Luke in a lightsaber duel with no formal training for gods sake! She beat Kylo Ren every time. I love Luke and hate the entire Rey trilogy. It needs to be erased from Star Wars cannon, Legends and erased period!
Does anybody know, the girl in the deleted scene with binoculars @4:50 is that Koo Stark? Sure looks like her!

4:46 well hello. 😏
I hope Mark doesn't get shafted again in episode 9, he's such a great and kind guy who loves Star Wars and he deserves the best
I wouldn't say he got shafted. George's and Rian's ideas just came out of left field and caught him off guard.
"If you end your training now, if you choose the quick and easy path, as Vader did, you will become an agent of evil."
So Luke sees a vision of his sister dying, he sees the destruction of everything he ever loved, and he reacts to it and draws his lightsaber, this is completely within character.
XVII or XVIII, Luke's screentime was minimal, he had less screentime than Rose. Some of us have been waiting 40 years to see Luke again on the screen, he comes back, has an unimportant role, less screentime than side characters and dies on the same movie. This is what pisses me off the most, we will never see Luke again, we will never see Han, Luke and Leia on the same movie together.
@@matheus.bueno47 and?
Star Wars is a saga split into 3 trilogies. Each trilogy has its group of main characters. Han, Luke, and Leia where main characters of the OT. Now they are secondary characters. There are a new generation of characters now.
Joe Kerr they are yes, but that does not mean shafting them to side like they are expandable. Directors can’t change characters just because they want the plot to go somewhere. Unfortunately this is where we are at.
I believe I hear Dj AG
FACT CHECK, the "luke was going to walk off into the sunset but didn't because of toy sales" is actually factually wrong.
Yeah, I hope he fixes that, otherwise he's willingly spreading mis information. In which case why follow a information channel on SW? :/
He's why we have star wars. Flaws like incest and jar jar don't matter in the grand scheme of things.
@@fridaynightnicktoons6885 Judging by your username, assuming it's not intentionally ironic or a joke, you seem to follow a lot of misinformation channels about Star Wars.
@@fridaynightnicktoons6885 Ill have to find it(edit: The Toys that Made Us is what it is called, there is an episode on Star Wars) :3 and yeah, Im not saying he was trying to be money grubbing at all. Waiting till the contract expired as well as taking a break. It was just something that some people say is one of many reasons. And waiting for it to expire wouldnt even seem like a bad thing because they really did screw him over, it would be more for the principle of it than anything else.

Han must really like to go first.
In conclusion, we all wish Mark Hamill was used more and sadly Disney really fumbled the bag hard with how little he was used due to his age 😔
And?
Starkiller definitely works best as the name for an antagonistic force (i.e. sith assassin or planet-destroying space station)

Why does this video change characters in the middle? Jake Skywalker is a different character from Luke, it's important not to confuse them!
Luke in Episode 8 is 100% true to Luke's character and it's rather sad that you live in a bubble trying to make yourself better just because you can't grow up.
@@deadshot5007 So your opinion is better than theirs, and they have to change because you don't like it?
Star Wars; a cluster fuck before it started

He didn't actually try killing him though. All he did was turn on the lightsaber then immediately regretted it
RIAN JOHNSON WILL ALWAYS BE THE WORSE THING THAT HAPPENED TO STAR WARS -- THAT'S HIS LEGACY

What you meant to say is, Luke’s story arc and ending was completely squandered to give Rey the finale. Luke should have been there, alive to support her. Rey had no business facing multiple with lords alone and it made absolutely no sense.
