    A perfect series of tutorials to get started on UE4 Archvis. Superb quality of presentation, detailed explanations, & just the right pace. I would've gladly paid for that course or donated to a charity of your choice. Can't thank you enough Ryan................but thank you anyway ☺

    Thank you for this excellent series. It is exactly what I needed. There are so many variables in UE lighting setup it is easy to get lost. This unpacks the parts and puts them back together in a precise and practical way.

    Great series. Your pacing and the amount of detail is perfect. Though, as a rule, using the Override Lightmap Resolution should only be used sparingly, not as the default process. That scales the lightmap up but the problem is that the size of the islands (and the space between them) also scale up proportionately. If you start with the default Min Lightmap Resolution of 64 and then blow that up to 512, you're going to have a ton of wasted space between the islands. You can use the override method to quickly get a general idea of the lightmap size you need for that mesh. But then you should turn the override off, double-click the mesh to open the mesh editor, go to Details > LOD 0 > Build Settings > Min Lightmap Resolution, set a new Min Lightmap Resolution, and hit Apply Changes. This will optimize the size of the mesh islands on UV Channel 1 to the new resolution (tip: have the UV Channel 1 window open before applying the change to see the difference!). After that, go to Details > General Settings > Lightmap Resolution and verify that it matches the Min Lightmap Resolution you just set. Kind regards. (Edit: grammar)

    RYAN: There are gonna be five key things that we need to have set up before we even touch our lighting...
    ME: Eh, was kinda hoping we'd skip all the obvious early setup but I suppose it can't hurt to brush up on the basics
    RYAN: [ proceeds to list five things I had never heard of past the existence of the post-processing volume ]
    ME: Well this will take me a while

    Love the video, really clearly explained! but one thing! When changing the lightmap resolution, do it with the power of two! 64*2 to 128*2 to 256*2 etc! dont just scale up! this is better for UE and renders faster and better!

  • @mikeg4172
    @mikeg4172 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your work is amazing Ryan! I love total realism in games and 3d. You have the eye for it! Just curious: Is there a way to set meshes in the world, such as a wall for example to block light from lighting up surfaces that extend along a perpendicular wall? or like if you had an open box turned on it's side, sometimes the engine lighting system will illuminate parts of the inside faces near the edges inside the box. I always wondered how I could stop that light bleeding. A third example would be if you had two rooms next to each other, the light might bleed onto a wall from one room to the next.

It offeres so much possibilites. Please, I have one question for you. I'm working on an outdoor scene right now, can I also use your recommended settings for the outdoor scene? Thank you. K

    On my Post Process Settings, I don't have "Min EV100" or "Max EV100". Instead it says "Min Brightness" and "Max Brightness". I've also noticed that under Lens settings, I have a "Mobile Depth of Field" setting, instead of just "Depth of field". I have a feeling something is set in the project settings that is forcing those options, but I can't figure out what it is. Any ideas?

    Why do you need lightmass portals, doesn't light just pass through a glass material? In my scene the light passes through glass materials just fine.

  • @user-sg4kx3kp1p
    @user-sg4kx3kp1p 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    how to apply clay material ( like vray global material) to all objects just to test the lighting so that it takes less time to compute. after testing light just disable global material just like vray and compute high resolution lighting with all the materials. i am not talking about 'lighting only ' mode in view port inside ue4 editor.

    Hello you are using RTX? I'm thinking of buying a 2080 rtx or 1 2080 ti but I think it's not worth it yet, due to the value and if the customer ultimately realizes the improvements!

    • @ThatRyanManning
      @ThatRyanManning  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm currently running a 2080 in my primary dev machine and TBH, I don't feel it's worth the money. Support is limited and not a lot of applications fully support it. I personally would get a 2060 if you want RTX or get a 1080ti if you need horsepower...otherwise just wait till prices drop. :)
