Yeah man.. Im finding this out the hard way. Ran straight into this wall and spent the last week researching ways to fix it. I have it set up in Ableton with Overbridge and each Syntakt track has a midi track with an external instrument (so that I can put effects on that track and use the Push to trigger and tweak), and then route that audio to audio tracks for capturing/ recording. External instruments are supposed to be the key here to compensate for hardware latency, but even when I turn the Abelton monitoring off (which is how you would usually get latency free recordings) I am still getting 1 to 2 to 3 ms of latency and jitter. Fucking sucks. One thing I can do is put negative track delay on the tracks - and that works technically - however the amount of negative delay needed seems to change over time - especially when adding or changing up effect plugins.
Seems like you could do the whole convert a track to midi thing with the other digi boxes as well, it would just require the extra step of copying the sequence to one of the available midi tracks.
Wow, this was tremendously helpful for building a template for this thing, thanks so much! Its so satisfying knowing I have such a streamlined workflow now!
Thanks for demo, but what about individual tracks for the effects from syntakt rather than them all being on the same track? Not sure if there is a fix for this?
All of the Elektron fx are set up as send fx rather than insert fx. They all go through the same chain. The unit way to record individual tracks with fx is to mute all but the track being recorded and record the master out. That will have the fx recorded with the dry signal. This can also be a way to record individual dry tracks and only their fx as their own track to be able to parallel mix them. Thanks for watching!

It is set up this way on purpose to allow full control in the DAW. You have fully dry signals and levels that can be properly mixed in the DAW. Recording different levels with added FX reduces the ability to control each of those levels once it is recorded in. To record post fader with all of the levels and FX you would probably want to record the main out with all tracks muted other than the one being recorded, and repeat this for each track or group of tracks. If you are fully happy with your levels and fx in the box, the simplest method would be to just record the master of the full track. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

Im sending midi notes via overbridge in ableton to my analog rytm. My problem is that the midi notes just trigger the notes and have a fixed length no matter how long the notes are. How can I control the trigger length of the rytm via Ableton? I cant find a solution, I read that i have to use a midi-cc but that doesnt work.
don't think you ever went back to explain the purpose of the Syntakt Main channel that's next to the Syntakt MIDI channel. can you share how you are using that channel and what it's for? Also, why are all of the individual channels set to monitor in instead of auto? once recorded, playing back would require that all of them are changed back to auto though, right?
Syntakt Main is the audio of the main outputs of the Syntax with all the parts in one audio track. The others are each part separated out. I always set to monitor rather than auto. Old habit. It can totally be on auto. Thanks for watching!
I am curious how you power the Syntakt when you are on the go. I have a Deluge too and the nice thing about that is the built in battery. But I have a holiday coming up and actually want to practice more with my Syntakt so a good tip on a neat power solution would be very welcome!
I normally fly United and they have outlets at the seat. If not, I use a regular power brick (with 2.5amp output) and a Birdcord 12V voltage converter cable. Here is a link to the cable: www.songbirdfx.com/products/birdcord-pd12v/ That cable was specifically made to handle the larger power draw of the analog machines. It works for the OT, the A4, and the AR including the MK2 versions. The power supply just needs to the USB PD comparable ones that supply the proper power level. Thanks for watching!
So I have a question. When I send my audio to the group "Syntakt" it comes back way quieter than what the OB plugin is showing on track "Syntakt MIDI". So far I just put a utility on every audio track to boost the gain but I have a suspicion that there is a better way to do this? Maybe something in Ableton or Syntakt settings? Can't seem to figure it out, appreciate any help :)
That is actually intentional. The audio in has gain reduced -12db to allow headroom for the addition of FX, overdrive, etc without clipping. They know that driving this into any DAW allows for adjustment of input gain, so they look out for us by building this in. In my Ableton template, I start with a utility on each channel anyway for automating levels. One of my earliest videos on the channel is about the Utility plugin as the least sexy but most important one in Ableton. This works the same for all of the Elektron machines with Overbridge. Thanks for watching!
@@SURCOlive Thank you :) I thought that I missed something but it makes complete sense. Great video as always, you have really helped me on the way to performing my own live sets, hopefully in the near future ;)
I’m pretty new to Digitakt, I’m sure I’ll figure it out, but I wanted to ask how I would bring this workflow to the Digitakt midi channels? Since I cannot audition a sound/sample on the midi tracks, would I just copy a pattern to the midi track then send it where I want?
Does anyone know if you can use two (or more) Elektron devices concurrently in Overbridge? The only other Elektron device I own is a Digitone, but I have a lot of other both modern and vintage synths. My modern synths are all using midi over usb through chaining two Overhubs together, whilst my older synths are connected via regular 5 pin midi via my interface. The Digitone is working fine in Overbridge, but I'm dubious that having 12 tracks of audio over usb coming into my DAW is going to work flawlessly to be honest. And I've now used all the input channels on my interface, which is why Syntakt (or another Elektron Overbridge device) is so enticing.
@@SURCOlive Thanks, that's a relief to be honest. Because even though my DAW PC is a beast, I can't get my head around having 12 tracks of digital audio and midi through one usb cable, plus another 4 of the same from the Digitone. I don't know how Elektron have actually managed this, it's something approaching magic.
There is a pattern chaining song mode. That’s relatively new. The classic way to virtually lengthen patterns is per step conditional trigs that can allow sequences to evolve infinitely. Thanks for watching!

Maybe behringer 2600 or argon module outside elektron. plz note existing gear ( moog subsequent 37, NI maschine mk3, Roland Trs8 , ableton suite live 11, NI komplete Kontrol S61, thank u again ,🙏
Glad you like the videos. You have a great group of machines and software for producing any genre. I don't see anything needed at all. You have my favorite analog mono synth (Subsequent 37), a great group of digital and poly synths in the NI and Ableton eco systems, and a great drum machine. With what you have and learning about how to produce different sounds from all of it, you will be able to produce really any genre. No machine produces a genre alone (unless it is a sampler loaded with remade samples from that genre). It is all about learning how to make the sounds you want from different types of gear. Just got a syntakt , and it sounds superb , but troubles begun when using overbridge : bascially the setting up of obverbidge is super easy and works well but : 1 ) I tried to record midi from daw routed keyboard (NI M32) into a syntakt track , it plays midi but don't let you rexcord it : woah !!! (syntakt allows this only if you use it in non overbridge mode but calss ompliant way) 2) I trried to i=use syntakt fx blok via midid to treat a track : same thing as previous ... 3) the most frustarting is that i plugin a real midi canble and said to myself i will rlay and eabel recording on syntakt via a real cable via my daw , but the devices don't likle it as soo as i plugged the midi cable (in overbidge mod still) the overbidge software (main one on you computer deslktop) kept trying to refersh the didevice ...Ect .... So i have a feelinbg that it's oiverbidrige or full hardawre style , but both is a headache ... Can you tell me how you set up the 3 rd part i explaine ? (overbideg + midi via cable going from daw (sound card) .... because i done this 2000 times witrh any hardawre and the syntakt is making me wann througth this thing out opf the window !! Nice viddoe as usual , your videos helped me decide wirxch box to get and if it was worth ;)
Thks for the answer , so i debugged a lot : 1) we need to be sure to send midi notes via midi and not via overbridge , in studio one i have to create a controller with midi taking from syntakt so in that case it is recording yeah !! 2) For the audio input , we need to activate in the overbidge plugin Pre L and R , it's then seen in studio one as sidechain destination, , you send your audio in those and you treat them in the FX track in synatkt (still via usb ) Yeah !! 3) So now of course via the midi device i created , i can now of course use the autochannel and it works ..... Might do a video on setting this up in studio one or a more general one ... anyway thks for taking the time , and keep serving us your great videos , just watched the digitakt /syntakt / analog rytm one this morining , you hyped me over the rytm , i wish we could have the new euclidian in syntakt . This leads me to one simple question : is there a way to populate a pattern (track one) or at least to randomise note played ? (pitch and / or time placmenent of notes (like on my keystep pro ) ? Is there a way to nudge all notes (or the wholme pattern) at once to modify the staring for exmeple .? Thks again @@SURCOlive

Yeah, it is such a powerful piece of software. I use Ableton, but I've heard it is great with all of them. Acts just like any other plugin. I actually have one template I made that has individual tracks for each of my pieces of Elektron gear, so no matter what I'm jamming on, recording multi track audio and midi is a breeze. Thanks for watching!
I've been using a Maschine mk3 the same way (as a multi-channel instance in Logic with a master bus - like you've just shown with Ableton) though you have to route each software channel to an audio one in order to record it.
I did, and I looked into it. They lowered the output to allow for headroom for the analog effects block to do it's thing without clipping the main output. I've found the best solution is to work with it and just boost the monitoring to keep the headroom for mix/master. Otherwise, if you are in Ableton, just add a utility to each channel of the template and boost the gain. Thanks for watching!
Were the MIDI steps you sent in the last part purposely late or is that because of latency? Asking because whenever I tried sending MIDI back and forth through overbridge to other hardware I always had to mess with the latency compensation.
Likely a bit of sync error between the screen capture and the audio. As long as Ableton is the clock, I haven’t had any noticeable latency issues with the Syntakt. If the device is the clock, there is always latency to be compensated in Ableton. Thanks for watching!
Things I don't like on the Syntakt: - Choke Group Process - Hats - Snares - Toms - No Master Compressor - The FX Track Analog Drive sounds cheap - Live Performance Handling, but that's with all Elektron Boxes for me. The Kick is nice, but 700€ for a kick? 😅 idk how long mine will stay
Hope this works as easily on other DAWs - I have Reaper, StudioOne Artist and Cakewalk. The Ableton I have is 10 Lite and limited to 16 tracks :( Thanks for another rad video
I also switched from Deluge to Syntakt. For reasons you explained, and other reasons like overall sound quality. I don't get the messy feeling in Syntakt that always seemed to crop up; also I've never slowed down or frozen up on Syntakt.
One of the first things I did the week I got the Syntakt was solo and perform each track individually into Logic. Recording them all at once is amazing but devoting a performance where you tweak synth, amp, filter, effects, trig etc parameters was too enticing to not attempt (plus I wanted individual stereo tracks). Thanks for dropping the knowledge, love your videos and I learned a bunch as an Elektron noobie.
Not sure. I know overbridge doesn’t work on iPad but there may be another way I don’t know about using audio over usb. Curious if anyone else has the answer.
@@SURCOlive thanks so much for the reply , I’ll try and do a bit more research. I am currently recording all the tracks together on the L/R out , although that limit does make me more creative in the moment

I actually have the ripcord 12V, but it only pushes 1 amp, not enough to power the Syntakt, A4, AR, or OT. It’s great for the Digitakt and Digitone though. The new birdcord is specifically 3A to power all of those higher draw devices as well as the DT and DN. Thanks for watching!
Hi Surco, by financial constraints, I need to use ableton live as my live performance platform and I would like to find a way to connect the syntakt and the digitone using overbridge to send returns/ sends as well as create buildups and dropdowns with the native ableton plugings and at the same time, be able to change the digitone patterns when changing the syntakt ones. I am initially using the same setup shown by EZBOT in his video "The Elektron MIDI Syncing Guide" (th-cam.com/video/i69tj48vfxM/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=EZBOT), it all works well when things are dawless but once overbridge comes into play, the receive/ send programme change settings are no longer working. Do you think you can help? I'm happy to contribute to the cause if you have actually have an answer to this technicality. Thank you!
Lots could be causing this. It depends how you have Overbridge set up in Ableton. How you have the individual Ableton overbridge tracks set up. The settings in the boxes need to be set to send and receive info via USB and MIDI. It depends what you have sending the program changes in the first place (is it one of the electron boxes or Ableton). Lots to untangle as it's not a simple set up. Hope this helps.

Yes the synth voices are mono, but run through stereo FX by channel and stereo FX block.
@@SURCOlive thank u 🙏
Thx for the tutorial.
Not sure if u mentioned it; but the syntakt group, it's something you created yourself right?
Yes. Its a group with overbridge vst + the audio channels getting each track. he made a template to open and start working :)))
Great videos. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge.
My pleasure! Thanks so much for watching!
I’ve never used them this way so I’m not sure. I’ll mess around with it and see what I can find.
so I guess if I wanna run with my Apollo I have to create an aggregate to be able to use over bridge?
don't think you ever went back to explain the purpose of the Syntakt Main channel that's next to the Syntakt MIDI channel. can you share how you are using that channel and what it's for? Also, why are all of the individual channels set to monitor in instead of auto? once recorded, playing back would require that all of them are changed back to auto though, right?
Syntakt Main is the audio of the main outputs of the Syntax with all the parts in one audio track. The others are each part separated out. I always set to monitor rather than auto. Old habit. It can totally be on auto. Thanks for watching!
@@SURCOlive isn't this just duplicating the main group track though?
I am curious how you power the Syntakt when you are on the go. I have a Deluge too and the nice thing about that is the built in battery. But I have a holiday coming up and actually want to practice more with my Syntakt so a good tip on a neat power solution would be very welcome!
I normally fly United and they have outlets at the seat. If not, I use a regular power brick (with 2.5amp output) and a Birdcord 12V voltage converter cable. Here is a link to the cable: www.songbirdfx.com/products/birdcord-pd12v/
That cable was specifically made to handle the larger power draw of the analog machines. It works for the OT, the A4, and the AR including the MK2 versions. The power supply just needs to the USB PD comparable ones that supply the proper power level.

@@SURCOlive thanks for making all these awesome Syntakt vids!
Thanks for watching them!
@@patrykszabla7208 Awesome! Glad to help!
That’s right! That’s how I was using the Digitakt before the Syntakt came out. Thanks for watching!
I have 4 Elektron devices all running overbridge into Ableton. All multitrack. No issues.
So helpful. Thank you for this!
Thanks for watching!
There’s “64 steps per pattern and track” but is that the maximum, or can you chain patterns together like the A4 can?
There is a pattern chaining song mode. That’s relatively new. The classic way to virtually lengthen patterns is per step conditional trigs that can allow sequences to evolve infinitely. Thanks for watching!
Hi , really enjoy ur vids , n music, i have a question cz would love ur advice. Which module u recommend that is most close to genres like melodic tech, deep tech organic tech, digitone ? Syntakt ?
Thanks so much for watching!

Just got a syntakt , and it sounds superb , but troubles begun when using overbridge : bascially the setting up of obverbidge is super easy and works well but :
1 ) I tried to record midi from daw routed keyboard (NI M32) into a syntakt track , it plays midi but don't let you rexcord it : woah !!! (syntakt allows this only if you use it in non overbridge mode but calss ompliant way)
2) I trried to i=use syntakt fx blok via midid to treat a track : same thing as previous ...
Hey! Lots to unpack here. First, which DAW are you using?
Thks for the answer , so i debugged a lot :
1) we need to be sure to send midi notes via midi and not via overbridge , in studio one i have to create a controller with midi taking from syntakt so in that case it is recording yeah !!
@@ZozillaThaGreat ah yeah there have always been issues with studio one and overbridge. I use Ableton and have never had any connection issues. I’ve heard that Logic works well too. Elektron came out with Overbridge for Pro Tools last year as well. As for your questions, there isn’t a way to populate random notes. You can send a random LFO to the pitch once the notes are in but it won’t quantize to key. That’s why I use the OXI one n my live rig. To shift a pattern hold function and use the left and right arrow keys to shift the pattern. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Thks yep i thought about the picth .... lfo the thing is that when i use another sequencer , it 's via usb , overbridge compensate but my overs no , so i need to disable PDC (plugin delay compensation ) , it works great BUT then overbirdge get unsync (since it 's comenbsating no mater one) ... lol so the only way is to midi sync via cable witch creates an issue here ... (i think it's linked to auto detection of ports used ) @@SURCOlive
Using MIDI to control another synth sounds cool but will it also send motion data to the synth?
It is possible to control other parameters with CC messages.
Great stuff Eric. Overbridge works really well with Logic too so the Syntakt is a no brainier for me (curses)
I've been using a Maschine mk3 the same way (as a multi-channel instance in Logic with a master bus - like you've just shown with Ableton) though you have to route each software channel to an audio one in order to record it.
yes ! with Logic it works immediatly! I am still struggling with Ableton
seems like the timing when sending midi out of the elektron was fairly latent. Is there a solution for this?
Better audio video editing on my part. ;)
I found that the output of the Syntakt with Overbridge was very low, even at max volume. Did you have the same issue or was I doing something wrong?
I did, and I looked into it. They lowered the output to allow for headroom for the analog effects block to do it's thing without clipping the main output. I've found the best solution is to work with it and just boost the monitoring to keep the headroom for mix/master. Otherwise, if you are in Ableton, just add a utility to each channel of the template and boost the gain. Thanks for watching!
@@SURCOlive I still need to explore the effects block, that might be a big part indeed. Thank you!
@@CoincoinBleu Its really powerful! Check out the Bo Beats Collaboration video I did on his channel. We both have some tips for the FX Block in there.
Things I don't like on the Syntakt:
- Choke Group Process
- Hats
- Snares
- Toms
- No Master Compressor
- The FX Track Analog Drive sounds cheap
- Live Performance Handling, but that's with all Elektron Boxes for me.
The Kick is nice, but 700€ for a kick? 😅 idk how long mine will stay
I've never used mine for drums. :)
@@SURCOlive WHAT 😂 ok that's wild
@@errorkit I much prefer the Analog Rytm for drums. I’ve always used the Syntakt as 12 mono synths for melodics and tonal percussion.
Hope this works as easily on other DAWs - I have Reaper, StudioOne Artist and Cakewalk. The Ableton I have is 10 Lite and limited to 16 tracks :(
Thanks for another rad video
I also switched from Deluge to Syntakt. For reasons you explained, and other reasons like overall sound quality. I don't get the messy feeling in Syntakt that always seemed to crop up; also I've never slowed down or frozen up on Syntakt.
It should work the same. Glad you liked the video. Thanks so much for watching!
Can I route the individual tracks to Cubasis on iPad anyone know?
What power source are you using on an airplane?
I normally fly United and they have outlets at the seat. If not, I use a regular power brick (with 2.5amp output) and a Birdcord 12V voltage converter cable. Here is a link to the cable: www.songbirdfx.com/products/birdcord-pd12v/

Psst: Perfect Circuit has the same thing / different mfg. It's the MyVolts Ripcord (Perfect Circuit Item# N13-05230). MyVolts re-stocks every few months; but they sell out everywhere in about a week. Thank you for posting Syntakt content.

I am initially using the same setup shown by EZBOT in his video "The Elektron MIDI Syncing Guide"
(th-cam.com/video/i69tj48vfxM/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=EZBOT), it all works well when things are dawless but once overbridge comes into play, the receive/ send programme change settings are no longer working.
@@SURCOlive Thanks for the advice man, I was running the midi from the Syntakt into a midi splitter, so I started the process of elimination and connected the midi out of the syntakt directly into the midi input of the digitone and i think it works now!! today I will do more investigation but I'm getting there!
