The Freljord shamans can sometime shapeshift into different animals. There was a story where even Udyr's face and body was changing as he used the animal spirits' power.
Yeah, however the spirit walkers are generally bound to one TYPE of spirit. So they could theoretically be connected to multiple wolves for example. Udyr is essentially a conduit for all spirits.
It is a little bit late for me to write this, but League has a few shapeshifter. Mainly that change form. Elise => going into a spider Nida => into a cat Shyvana => Into a dragon Gnar => Into a big yeti? Some change on the champions. Kayn forms Jayce changing weapon Aatrox using his ulty Karthus passive, For a necro / undead type character it could be an ultimate Kayle does have a change depending on the level Kha'zix core mechanic with the evolve Neeko is more like just change into a form not the character, but yeah Udyr too if you take it as a different forms
I think the classes would be easily implemented if you restric the class spec to a specific region, so if you are from demacia AND you are a human, you can select warrior and be a paladin or something, while on the other hand if you are noxian and human, you can be a warrior but you would be more of a berserker or whatever. That way you can have a lot of classes and be lore friendly.
@@capistar9159 of course, it's just an idea and class/region availability surely will be one of the biggest problems for riot to tackle. Anyhow, i main katarina, can't wait to play as a noxian assasin 🤩
Just do the path of exile style honestly, have specific skills and passives early depending on which race and origin you come from then you can just unlock everything else if you want to in specific choices you make
Having specific classes based on races like, yordles can be mages engeers gunners but not anything else and humans can be anything but demons. Region specific doesnt make sense, maybe based on your class you would start at a specific place or something but thats about it. Class specific traits and skills based on the class you play would be really cool. That would require you to be able to make more characters and xp them to max level fast but thats expected since riot is making a casual friendly mmo.
@@capistar9159 Riot could just do a low level area where everyone starts and learns the basics or their class then they can choose a region to level in. There may be some exceptions like playing a mage and Demacia but thats just how the cookie crumbles at that point. You can't have everything be available to everyone and keep region identity as those regions are seperate for a reason.
honestly soda is right. If this mmo fails and can't revitalize the mmo genre, the mmo dream is over. I don't see any other company every being able to make not exactly the next big mmo, but like a 8-9/10 mmo in terms of quality and content. Ashes of creation does exist, but as much as I hate to say it, I think it'll just be a flash in the pan and end up being niche after it comes out. Just gotta pray in the 4-5 years when this game comes out, it actually revitalizes the genre or else its over for us.
Ashes of Creation is giving Star Citizen vibes where it's going to be delayed constantly and is TOO ambitious without the budget to support it. Riot has a lot of failsafes and they have a relatively good track record. If this MMO fails, I agree that the mmo genre is doomed unfortunately.
I know this is maybe copium, but a Valve MMO MIGHT be the dead last, if ever this Riot MMO fails. It's too far from reality, but it's not something that won't happen in forever. The idea might be on its infancy stage, but you know, Im pretty sure some higher ups in Valve probably have this already in mind. Aside from having the budget, reputation, and excellent track record, Valve still doesn't have entry in the said MMO game genre. They have CSGO going against Valo, Dota 2 going against LoL, etc. They're the only company that I think could go head-to-head with Riot. With their own spin-off lore of Dota 2, they could create a mighty mmo that would bring glory back to the said genre.
Riots lore is so vast that even trying to slim down the classes to be more generalized won't really do it justice. With all of the world building and different characters and not to mention the classes that are already WITHIN League just the game itself it's going to he hard to appeal to certain players who wish they could do the stuff their favorite champion does in game while also adapting it to a MMO experience. I believe it's confirmed that the mmo will have the holy Trinity so as for everything else along with special classes i can't wait to see what they'll have in store.
there is also the argument of not being able to do the cool shit. kinda makes the cool shit.. cool? like obviously you shouldnt be able to be as strong as most champions, kind of ruins the point. we should all be peasants, we shouldnt matter. if we get to be powerful gods then.. wheres the fun? im looking forward to the little things and details. a good example of this is the mandalorian. from my experience people loved it. i found it really cool how mystical and rare and exquisite the force and jedi's were. i loved seeing the bottom of the hierarchy. riot should make champions from league legends and myths (most of them anyway). doesnt make sense for someone as random like us to talk to the star forger, the dude who literally made this world and all others.
definitely agree. i have a feeling (and hope) that riot will change the formula of what an mmo can be, kinda like what they did with Valorant. this is an mmo within the league universe, which means they have to approach design differently. personally, and they prolly wont do this: i think they should forgo classes altogether and do a hybrid between any fromsoftware game and breath of the wild: maybe a stat-point-buy system, but you gain new loot and gear instead of leveling up. basically relying primarily on horizontal progression rather than vertical progression
I feel like the vastaya race will either A. not even be added as a playable race with the reasoning that lore-wise they are dwindling or B. we can play as a half vastayan where they mostly look human with just animal ears and tails, this would make it easier for adding armour to thier models. If vastaya is a playable race I would like to see the "origin" selection dictate what animal type you could be while giving 2 maybe even 3 animal options depending on origin.
It does seem like character creation will just be the character itself rather than class, and you'll just be 'Adventurer', and then you'll have to combine class quests from different zones - battlemage needs warrior and mage questlines from specific zones, hemomancer: mage and then noxus questline, paladin: warrior then demacia questline, etc. etc.
Would be cool if it got a similar character creation as path of exile where you start the skill tree on one point depending your starting zone and race, but still have to option to path to totally different parts of skill trees.
what do you mean "it does seem like" there has been literally 0 information on this game, you guys are taking speculation from a lore channel as information lmfao
11:05 Skyrim Modding Dude here: You can give armor sliders that make it so the armor can be automatically fitted to most body types. This means that 90% of the process can be automated and only the last few details need to be adjusted by hand.
The devs kinda confirmed that they want us to be any class at any regions. Im just guessing the traits we start of for each class would be different depending on the region then we unlock more traits per region we explore with like a trainer i suppose.
Let's just hope they follow a WoW template when it comes to combat, pvp, dungeons, raids, guilds and pretty much any other gameplay aspect. I don't care that they want to create a unique game or add their own touch, they have their lore. EVERY other mmo that have tried to stood out...have not beaten WoW and is arguably dead. Blizzard just got it right, from the beginning. So let's hope RIOT learns from big daddy Blizzard and copies the hell out of their gameplay.
@@Octrox Absolutely not. The very reason MMOs are failing is beacuse they are trying to copy WoW. It is outdated and Riot can create something much better. Combat will be 100% better no doubt about that ( No tab target sleeper mechanics). If they can come up with a good world systems, anything else is something they have already experience with. Also generic classes would be boring af and not fit the world so they would probably go with the tft and runeterra type classes.
@@Octrox i have to disagree on combat, i think wow is the better mmo ever in most aspects except combat, others mmos have made it so much dynamic and fun than just staying still while casting skills, we need more abilities with movility, things that make changes in the enviroment, being able to sent enemies flying, etc.
I'm actually interested in Demacia golem construcks class or something and maybe you can design them whatever you want them to look like... That would be cool 🔥
i guess you'll have a "poe" type pf character creation , but even more pushed where you'll start from scartch and you'll be able to spec into summoner / engineer as a demacian and make construct , but if you do it as a piltover native you'd make creature looking like orianna or blitz
there ARE really amazing shapeshifting characters in league currently so it'd be a pretty big miss to not allow that... elise, nidalee, gnar, udyr to a degree, shyvanna, plus neeko can turn into other people as can viego in the game.
As Necrit has said, the story is there. The only thing Riot needs to do is to make a good MMO game out of it and create a good social world. I'm only worried about the whether the social aspect is implemented well, mainly because it's not exactly implemented well for LoL and Valorant.
I mean they’re completely different genres so that’s going to be different, valorant isn’t really different from csgo in terms of how it feels to play with others
Same with LoL, it’s similar to dota - I don’t think it’s going to be anything like those two games lol. It’s a mmo of course it’s going to be different.
Those are very fast paced games with little to no downtime to stop and chat or roleplay, you have an objective and every second counts. An mmo would give a lot of time for players to just chill and enjoy each other
I think the best way to do it about classes, is to introduce very basic starting classes, similar to FF14, and make it so Warriors can turn into Berserk/Blademasters etc. And they also can do it so garen, darius yasuo are quest givers/trainers.
I’d love that, I think Dungeons and Dragons works like that where you start as a certain class and with levels can spec into other classes or whatnot(don’t quote me that’s just what I’ve heard). It also allows players to dip their feet into the game first and figure out what they like play style wise, rather than fully locking in right at game start.
@@nfrance999 Yes, you start with your basic rogue then on level 3 you chose subclass like assasin, Phantom or soulknife for more special actions and proficiencies. Additionaly if your stats are correct you can multiclass and become hybrid for example of rogue and fighter
@@ukaszchudzik2113 See, now that I would love to see in an MMO and I hope Riot does when they release it (in 8 years) so thank you for confirming the DnD info!
I think it would be cool if the region's classes are completely individualized. For example, if you play a warrior in Demacia your abilities and armor are completely different from a warrior in Noxus or Shurima. this would mean WAY more individuality and choices.... BUT WAYYYY more work for the dev team. There are 12 unique classes in WoW this would mean LoL's MMO would have like 30+.. you can't be a hemo-mancer from Demacia you can't be a frost ranger(hunter class) if you choose Shurima.. can't be a shadow Ninja(Assasin) unless you start in Ionia. This would mean you could be a Yordle void mage from Zaune and it would be pretty rare to run into another player with your chosen combination of traits. and when fighting a mage from another region you would have very different abilities.
I definitely think it would be ok if they start with fewer choices per region maybe like 4 classes per region, and 4 regions so vanilla LoL MMO would have 4 regions: so the first release will have Demacia, Noxus, Piltover, Zaun, Freljord. then: Demacia: Gaurdian(warrior) Noxus: Legionnaire(warrior) Freljord: Berserker(warrior) Piltover: Enforcer(warrior) The first expansion can introduce Ionia Second Shurima third Bilgewater fourth Mount Targon Fifth Shadow Isle every single new region has new classes connected to new region and maybe they release a new class for an existing region.
To be honest, I kind of hope Riot finds something different from the traditional idea of "you're a paladin, you're a rogue" and perhaps leans and expands the concept of final fantasy, where you're a character that can pretty much pick up any kind of school - mixing that with origin and heritage...you're just your own unique thing in the great world of runeterra.
I don't think there will be paladins but rogue will probably be a class so will warrior and mage because it's easier for people to understand what classes are
It gets mentioned in the video, but Divinity is a game that does that really well too. You can basically mix and match however you want. Obviously it needs to be balanced so you don't get too weak or too strong from either going down one path or many, but i think it's the way to go
I honestly think that riot will have the all the different classes separate and maybe do it like lost ark where they can release new classes as updates because riot loves to introduce new things to their game to keep it fresh, like champions in league and agents and maps in valorant. They have so many classes to choose from that i think it would be a missed opportunity to just release all of them under 4 or 5 different classes.
that kind of gradual intro would be hard for an MMO since you can't be making new chars every time, tho it also depends on how much class there will be
@@WompyWompRat Why you cant make new class everytime? This is one of the biggest fails in mmos they restrict new characters. Since Riot mmo will be casual friendly i imagine it wont be too hard to make more characters and reach max level fast.
Riot has an opportunity to save the genre if they just go for it. They just need to be ambitious. Do stuff that’s gonna take a long time to produce. If they take a lot of care to capture all of the crevices of the League world, they can get it right and make a 7.5/10 or higher game. The magic of the league lore is that it is a masterclass in world building. The world feels giant and expansive and like a real world. Riot has to break almost every mmo convention to capture that.
I want to be able to pick one of the typical classes as the base, then I want to be able to go in any direction from there. It would be awesome to be able to pick mage as the base, for example, then spec the skill tree in the direction of warrior or assassin. Hopefully this would allow you to play as a magic swordsman or a ranger/assassin character that is like an assassin but puts an emphasis on ranged attacks. This idea would also allow a class similar to WOW's hunter, where you would be as your base and spec towards summoner. I'm sure there are a ton of other awesome combinations you could pull off. I know this would be a huge task to balance, but I think it would be much more fun to play over the traditional classes and skill trees.
17:28 "No dwarves or elves here. Runeterra is simply trying to be unique in every way." **Proccess to have primarily Humans and Furries everywhere.** Yeah I've never seen that in an MMO before. ROFLMAO
In league of legends (and most mobas) there's usually 6 classes. There's tanks, fighters(warriors), assassin's, mages, marksmen, and support. But you can cross classes with each other. Like seena is a support marksmen, Evelyn is a mage assassin. And someone like braum is a tank support. Illaoi is something like a warlock fighter, she is incredibly strong at fighting but she also calls upon the power of her God to amplify her strength
Soda, if the devs. start locking factions in WoW they could periodically re-open it with a select amount of slots on the faction. So if Horde goes too ham and gets too many players, they faction lock it until Alliance catches up in population, then open the Horde back up for a select amount of character slots while keeping players that already have Horde locked, allowing people that want to play with their friends a chance to create a new character for the faction. This way you don't have someone with 10 characters on the Horde and you have to faction lock it where those characters could be new players for the faction.
Makes a good point talking about the armor changes with each race but its also something they for sure talk about before developing such an indepth game as an mmo
Soda you would like playing Monk in lineage 2. The class has a particular mechanic where you can choose different "totem" buffs that alter your playstyle on the fly(fast and accurate, even more fast movement speed but less attack for disengage, slow but powerful atk, increased crits and accuracy, incredible attack speed etc.). Its very fun and you need to know when to use which totem because they all have cooldowns, some longer than others.
The Freljordian shamans should be the shapeshifters. But I don't think it'll be like wow where you can just turn into a straight up normal ass cat and call it a day. What it should be like is that you get to choose what forms to specialize in, so if you choose to be a generalist you become like Udyr, only barely changing his form but has many forms to change to, but if you hyper focus on one form you should be twisted into a beast, like Volibears followers who turn into various twisted bears and other beasts, which can include wolves and mountain lions or some shit. Doesn't sound possible to balance unless they have a path of exile style system for classes. If it is more like old school WoW then generalizing in all the class trees instead of specializing in one just sounds straight up bad and boring since you only have access to things specialists already have from a low level. I feel like they should just ignore classic MMO class ideas and instead just give every playable race their own giant trees to specialize your character, like path of exile only that you don't choose a starting class, you choose a region and a race which will inform everything about your class options, completely unique trees for every region with variations within it based on your chosen race. So if you choose Ionia (fantasy asia) as your region you'll get a unique ionian talent tree that lets you specialize in spirit magic or shadow ninja technique or blade mastery and so on, but if you then choose to be a vastaya animal person then some things change. Maybe a type of warrior part of the talent tree changes into a shapeshifter tree because you choose to play a lizard guy. It is of course alot of work but I think thats the best way to fit so many class fantasies into the game. it's also easy to add on to, like if they add a Void corrupted racial option then they need only tweak parts of the region talent tree to fit everything that comes with being void corrupted. So the hunter pet class no longer can tame animals but he can instead summon a void creature as his pet, and he'll focus more on magical abilities rather than bows. Stuff like that all accross the board. Yes it is very exclusive, you can't play your freljordian volibear worshipping shaman while looking like a shuriman, and you can't play your shuriman sand wizard while being an ionian, but thats how it should be. Thats how actual RPGs work. Nothing being exclusive according to the rules of the world just makes it feel like a marketing ploy meant to try and appeal to as many people as possible, which just makes it appeal to nobody. We're in the current day and age when Riot games releases nothing but brown female champions with various accents so I doubt that there will be any exclusivity to any region of the game, but one can hope it will actually feel like a modern version of Swords and Sorcery.
As League was based on Dota which was a Warcraft mod, there's Nidalee who is literally a Feral Druid. I believe in current lore she is a human shapeshifter, and there's Neeko, the Vastaya from one of the purest bloodlines who can shapeshift freely, though that's a race.
Speaking in terms of aesthetics and fantasy, it's really hard to create an environment where factions are distinct yet able to sustain an organic and emergent balance between them without _some_ form of dev intervention. If you make them too different then one always risks being "cooler" than the others and with broader appeal, so more people will pick it. If you make them too similar then people will wonder what the point is, and won't feel so attached to their faction. Honestly the best balance I can say that I've seen in this regard is Foxhole. There are just enough cosmetic differences to give them their own identity, few enough tangible differences to keep gameplay even, and the faction loyalty is _off the charts._
I think they could go the way of DCUO, and do a "mentorship" system, with the champions matching the specific factions people are from, with that people could hybridize builds similar to champions they like with the limitation of Origin Faction/Race, and you have SO MANY champions to add in future patches as Mentors
I wonder if there’s a tool to make amours fit multiple models automatically to give developers a way to shorten development time and make minor tweaks to gear per race type. Hopefully with UE5 there can be a tool that performs this task.
You mean copy paste? Most certainly. I bet that's why MMO's used to take so long to make, they didn't have the technology we have today. Don't be scared about the 10 years soda said, if that was true, we wouldn't even know they're making an MMO. I'm thinking maximum 6 years and minimum 4-5 years but 4 being VERY unlikely.
the easiest solution for that in my opinion would be make races with specific sized models, like humans and vastaya are the same size, then lets say bigger vastaya and minotaurs are also the same size, that would make it easier to make the armor fit, having just 3 or 4 pre defined body sizes, or maybe depending on class, warriors, paladins and so are big, mages, rangers and so are tiny, monks and shamans are medium size, things like that.
@@worztbeats8189 then you run into a WoW problem where all of the npcs in the game all are the same skeleton. The cool thing about Tauren is that they’re tauren. You could be right tbh I just prefer bigger and smaller models to give characters more identity. A tool that scale/fits models would be nice but I’m sure a dev somewhere tried it
Suprised no one is bringing up the job system in FFXIV. They could make it so you pick a base class like Warrior and then you can go to the different regions and learn the different specialization and you can swap between them.
Ye, exactly, a lot of people think that the alt system is much better for some reason lol. And when you compare "alts" vs "all classes in one character" game design phylosophy the alts perspective just eats shit like REALLY bad.
In league lore shapeshifting is not class-related, but instead race related. So (if they make em separate) you just have to pick a correct vastaya race
seems like the best thing Riot can get inspiration from is Guild Wars 2. the weapons that you wield will influence what skills you have. with that you can have a shitload of different classes without having trouble with player models too much. Just have some generic sample from each region in terms of skins , the 5-6 general classes and the weapons you wield will unlock certain skills for that class. For example a warrior wielding a Ionian sword will have blademaster skills, a warrior with a Demancian sword will have skills from that warriors of demancia, etc. . A tank class will get different skills depending of what region armour you wear and so on. the skillls tied to the item specific to the class. shield and armour is specific to tanks so different shields and armour from different areas in the game will have different skills( demanican, ionian, surima, etc). That i think is best way to make everyone able to play and RPG their favorite class and fight style
Instead of areas being race locked, it'd be cool if it was class locked instead. Where the place you choose to go to is based on the class you decide to play. Learn to be a blood mage here, or a shaman here. I like the idea of being able to pick up different specs, changing between classes or maybe creating hybrid classes like becoming a void blade master. Who knows, they have a lot to play with that's for sure.
on the darkin and ascended topic: riot could (in theory) say that the darkin can designate some people and give them darkin-like powers (blood magic). They wouldnt be as strong as a true darkin but still have the same aesthetic and powers. Theoretically possible, riot's choice if they want to make them playable
There r the blood Magic User tho. They Use the same Magic as the darkin. If you want to Look like one riot can just say When you Use too much blood Magic Ur body gets corrupted or something
That would severely conflict with the lore, as there are only 7 Darkin remaining in existence IIRC. And we already know about half of them - Aatrox, Varus, Rhaast, and an unnamed female darkin so far. Also, making players as strong as darkin would be stupid from both a gameplay and lore perspective, as Darkin are on-par with demigods as far as power levels go.
@@alexs29 You misread, im not saying make darkin themselves playable but rather, make people that have been under the control of darkin/ followers of the darkin playable. Theoretically: New expansion, darkin raid boss darkin raid boss uses his blood magic to control people and contort their bodies after the first clear/with the expansion, new class is unloked special class: darkin follower/darkin smth starts at lvl 30 or smth (like dk from wow) they used to be controlled by darkin raid boss but managed to free themselves/were freed they retain their contorted bodies and blood magic and can use it like a hemomancer but more melee combat focused (think kayn's left arm. If he threw rhast away, he would still retain his darkin arm because he has already been corrupted) I think this could work (if they wanted it to)
@@lordwiszniewski4857 sure, its another alternative. Hemomancers being a more mage class who have a blood magic darkin form which goes melee could be a cool class
The sentinels of ligth is more o guild or sub class than a class... Because inside their ranks they have rogues, figther, hunters, duelist, clerics, etc i imagine u can be a warrior per example and then u became a sentinel and that give u new anti- undead skills
Path of Exile has one of my favorite class systems, you can create any variation of class you want, and easily allows for hybrids of all sorts, it would be amazing for a game like League lore wise, and then make region pride an armor thing empowering your abilities and you could even have region specific skill gems like PoE does. Also PoE has kind of shapeshifting. Here is how you do it: You become a Chieftain and use totem magic. It is close enough.
If I had to take a stab at it using LoL's current and legacy classes and classes in TFT, I'd say somewhere around five base classes, being Fighter, Tank, Mage, Marksman, and Assassin. There are very few examples of what would typically be a Shaman or Druid like in other high fantasy series, but I'd say Dragonmancer and Shapeshifter would fit, but I don't if they'd be their own class, possibly expansion classes, or if they'd be lumped into Support or Specialist or something else entirely. Fighter would divide into Bruiser, the typical berserker class, Challenger, a more tactical warrior like Arms spec in WoW, and Brawler, with fistfighters, scrappers, and monks. Tank would split into Guardian, the typical sword and board warrior, and Warden, magical tanks like Taric and possibly the tie-in for the standard fantasy paladin. Mage would be Arcanists, the basic spell-slinging mage, Enchanter, a more buff oriented, possibly non staff- or wand-wielding mage, and Mystic, the rest of the bunch that don't fit in but use magic, like warlocks or priests. Marksman would be a Bard who uses a bow and standard archer type and Cannoneers, who use guns and technology, so the engineers, snipers, and pirates. Only one I can really think of for Assassin would be Smirmisher, the more survival type rogue, but Striker exists in TFT and could be the ninja and more assassin-y rogues.
on the subject of making sure all armor fits all the races and variants, i have this weird feeling Riot's mmo will have preset clothing, the look will just change if its level 10 gear or if its level 50 gear.
12:15 , I think there is a easy work around for the boots problem. In league Cassiopeia has a passive that gets rid of boots and gives passive movement speed, maybe a similar method could be used.
Ionia is a continent. There's multiple races in Ionia, Vastayan, the assassins, the Wuju, while they are Ionians they are their own Racesor at least their "Fighting Style" changes who they serve in their respective continent.
never played FF and only played wow but i feel the FF class route would be better, have generic classes but then tons of sub paths which are tied to the various zones
The classes should depend on 3 things. Race specific traits( and class lock based on races), main class like warrior mages, and secondary class like bloodmages and ionian warriors and monks.
but the challenge with that is there are so many subclasses to pick from that a) you just can't please everyone, and b) there's already so much content they need to work on
@@ActionJake101 Dude how does a) make sense, more means more people pleased, less means less people pleased. b) its riot games. Combat is what they do well, if anything i would expect it to have the best combat system ever and it wont even be close, so many classes would be needed to support that.
They could simply use League as a guide for classes. Perhaps each starting region has their own classes but you can travel to each region to unlock new classes or talents to change your skills. So similar to FF14 where you can unlock every class but similar to WoW where each class has talents you can use to change the structure of your skills. You start as Noxus as a Hemomancer but gain talent traits from arcane mages. Now you have a glass cannon blood mage build that uses a lot of health to cast skills but you can hit enemies from a long distance. Another example you start as an Ionian Monk and gain some traits from the Starcallers. Now you have a melee build that heals allies as you punch people.. Just give people lots of ways to customize their skills and give their characters their own identity.
The Problems i have with Talent systems is: Most of the Time only 1 is used, cause its the strongest. So why bother then at all? Thats a big reason i even quit WoW Years ago. Its really stupid when you dont play the Talent Tree People want and then you get kicked from Stuff. It isnt Fun at all. And because of this, i HOPE they dont bring it in the Riot MMO. That would mean a lot of Classes wouldnt be present, but i would be fine with that, cause i prefer a balanced Class System over a Class System where the Choices are stupid anyway, cause of Balance Problems and one Talent would be better then the rest. Buuut thats only my Opinion and i can talk only for myself.
That's the same reason I didn't like WoW. Talent tree felt very restrictive. I think Riot shouldn't have a talent page but something like augments. Like lets say every class has a few traits that are learned through unlocking them and completing their quests. When you switch to another class you can augment your class abilities with traits from other classes to change the structure of your skills. So lets say a Warrior augments a sword skill with a mage trait that allows his skill to scale with Spell power and deal magic dmg. So now we have a warrior/magic hybrid build who has a sword skill that scales with attack dmg and spell power. I think Riot should take their gameplay ideal of league and incorporate it into the mmo. Dual scaling skills, ways to change skills and deep customization for players to make characters in an expressive way. Of course balance will be crazy but they can always change things in the future. League was never a balanced game but players learn to adapt to what was strong and counter it or play it themselves. I think that could also work for an mmo.
"isnt that fanart" no, no it isnt he uses official canon art only (and has disclaimer when he uses technically non canon art, but its still Riot, for example from Wild rift etc)
Concerning the classes... why make it complicated if they could just go for the ALREADY EXISTING TYPES. Fighter, Mage, Controller, Marksman, Slayer, Tank and Specialist. Then these types get subtypes depending on the zones at level 30 or something that changes their skills....
You have to pray to the statue in order to get a 30 min drop rate buff or something like that. You would see hundreds of people on the same spot praying and I think that type of incentivized action would bring so much immersion and overall "life" into the world.
Wouldnt b cool that instead of just specs giving diferent habilities with level required, u collect ur habillities inside ur class by finishing quests all around the world? I mean instead of getting level 40 and go to ur master in ur city in Frejilord to learn X blood magic hability.. Wich make no sense at all... U do a Quest in Noxus for Vladimir and he teach u some Blood related skill for ur class... I think this is much more interesting that way...
Some private servers have had cross faction play for years now, that's what you get when the decision-makers are actually passionate about what they're developing.
Im really expecting them to take the champion approach to classes which is an already established character that u can customize. think maplestory or elsword(im not saying this because this is what i want btw im saying it because its a hell of a lot more realistic than trying to make every class in LoL possible in every race)
Riot could do the most with this game if they make their mechanic systems unique from other games. All the different skill sets he mentioned could be usable in the game somehow. Their's always a way to include everything and just make the overarching system unique in lots of ways.
race and origin as the only character customization would be enough i think. cosmetics being according to what class you have would fix all the problems with what you look like. class and skills being extremely limited to where you originated would be awesome. that would feel extremely immersive. having no levels with skills and weapons being according to questline drops with rng involved would be what would be an awesome thing to implement although i doubt it would be like that, i played aqworlds post hype and the levels are capped so everyone you see would be the same level except with different class ranks and equipments, still grinding so much to get the new class they are reaching for, in this case, a skill being hidden behind questlines would be a good avenue riot could take, along with that exclusive equipment only available in questlines that have exclusive buffs. aqw have incredibly tedious quests that fit the MMO vibe being grindy if riot could do it tastefully. aqw is a shit mmorpg but they did the quests rewards good with locking classes and equipments behind those, if paired with awesome content, combat mechanics and story it would be perfect
I would forever love Riot if they let you build your own class. I feel like that's something that FFXIV gets close to and WoW has the possibilty to do, but never will yet it feels like such a huge MMO concept to do
To be fair almost all of WoW content is cross-server now. So when you see 99.6% wins of hord on one server, it just means that in this server are MOSTLY hoard players. Yet on battle grounds and arenas they compete with other server's alliance teams. So if you combine all servers that go in one pool (EU, America, Asia, RU) that'll b like 50/50. But if you want more PvE content with guilds - choose server with most peaple you like. Even LookingForRaid is cross-server now.
Generally when I hear people say "Yea I'd love to play the losing side of a 99% pvp server" and I just roll my eyes and say "but you don't" put me on team factions are bad for mmos.
Alistar originates from the Tauren literally because LoL derives from the original DotA mod of Warcraft 3. So League's world literally has Taurens, but not Taurens.
Factions are fine - the easiest thing to do is to make all server transfer free and for pvp servers only, force a worst case 60-40 split. pve servers dont matter.
The class system is the biggest worry I have honestly they need to get this right. Do they ignore all their pre existing characters and create generic classes? Or do they try to turn their characters into classes?
If you mean champions when you say characters then no. They won't use champions for players. They'll be used for lore I'm sure. Champions are way too OP if League is sticking to cannon world building. Just Kindred could technically kill anything on the whole region of Runeterra. It'll most likely be a random character with a race and class.
The Freljord shamans can sometime shapeshift into different animals.
There was a story where even Udyr's face and body was changing as he used the animal spirits' power.
I mean volibears followers turn into bears, and generally shamans are shapeshifters, wow is just weird having them different classes.
its where the Spirit Guard skin comes from. It was Udyr essentially during his period of ascension as a Shaman.
U right, but Udyr is the only one who can use more than 1 spirit animal right?
Yeah, however the spirit walkers are generally bound to one TYPE of spirit. So they could theoretically be connected to multiple wolves for example.
Udyr is essentially a conduit for all spirits.
It is a little bit late for me to write this, but League has a few shapeshifter.
Mainly that change form.
Elise => going into a spider
Nida => into a cat
Shyvana => Into a dragon
Gnar => Into a big yeti?
Some change on the champions.
Kayn forms
Jayce changing weapon
Aatrox using his ulty
Karthus passive, For a necro / undead type character it could be an ultimate
Kayle does have a change depending on the level
Kha'zix core mechanic with the evolve
Neeko is more like just change into a form not the character, but yeah
Udyr too if you take it as a different forms
I think the classes would be easily implemented if you restric the class spec to a specific region, so if you are from demacia AND you are a human, you can select warrior and be a paladin or something, while on the other hand if you are noxian and human, you can be a warrior but you would be more of a berserker or whatever. That way you can have a lot of classes and be lore friendly.
kinda bad if you are in a region to play with friends, but then cant play a class you want
M8 Blizzards New wow Expansion will save the game and mmos kekw
@@ziga226 that's hard cope
If FF14 could figure out pvp I think they’ve done a hell of a job establishing themselves as top tier
If it's not third person like wow is, I won't play it. None of that top down bs or first person
I'd imagine that's probably going to be the toughest part for them lol trying to figure out the right "classes" to implement.
I think the races can just be a cosmetic thing honestly, im more focused on the gameplay of the classes
@@The_oli4 true
what do you mean "it does seem like" there has been literally 0 information on this game, you guys are taking speculation from a lore channel as information lmfao
This has so many races cool places and stuff i really believe it will be goat mmo so easily if done atleast fine
@@Octrox No they fucking didnt. WoW is nothing but a treadmill that forces you to work and not play.
Hello? Guild wars 2?? Is that not unique enough for you? Is it dead?
@@Octrox i have to disagree on combat, i think wow is the better mmo ever in most aspects except combat, others mmos have made it so much dynamic and fun than just staying still while casting skills, we need more abilities with movility, things that make changes in the enviroment, being able to sent enemies flying, etc.
I'm actually interested in Demacia golem construcks class or something and maybe you can design them whatever you want them to look like... That would be cool 🔥
Living armor/mecha?
i guess you'll have a "poe" type pf character creation , but even more pushed where you'll start from scartch and you'll be able to spec into summoner / engineer as a demacian and make construct , but if you do it as a piltover native you'd make creature looking like orianna or blitz

there ARE really amazing shapeshifting characters in league currently so it'd be a pretty big miss to not allow that... elise, nidalee, gnar, udyr to a degree, shyvanna, plus neeko can turn into other people as can viego in the game.
perhaps each class could come with a subclass like Shaman-fighter Fighter-shaman Mage-warrior ect.
An mmo would give a lot of time for players to just chill and enjoy each other
wdym i love the toxicity KEKW
Na man the social aspect in LoL is so good the enemy missing ping can be used for 10 different things
I definitely think it would be ok if they start with fewer choices per region maybe like 4 classes per region, and 4 regions so vanilla LoL MMO would have 4 regions: so the first release will have
Demacia, Noxus, Piltover, Zaun, Freljord.
then:
Demacia:
Gaurdian(warrior)
Noxus:
Legionnaire(warrior)
Freljord:
Berserker(warrior)
Piltover:
Enforcer(warrior)
The first expansion can introduce Ionia
Second Shurima
third Bilgewater
fourth Mount Targon
Fifth Shadow Isle
every single new region has new classes connected to new region and maybe they release a new class for an existing region.
I don't think there will be paladins but rogue will probably be a class so will warrior and mage because it's easier for people to understand what classes are
@@ramencakes5196 there are a lot of paladin-ish champs in league so i dont think it would be unlikely.
I would love to have 1 character that can change into all classes; no alts; would be fken amazing.
It gets mentioned in the video, but Divinity is a game that does that really well too. You can basically mix and match however you want. Obviously it needs to be balanced so you don't get too weak or too strong from either going down one path or many, but i think it's the way to go
Yeah, just forget about "Class" labels already, maybe it could be a result of picking up several diferent "Skill Trees", like Skyrim.
So you can merge one to three and make your own class, therefore, some examples:
...
AxeMastery (like Darius)
Fencing (like Fiora)
Hemomancy + AxeMastery = Blood Warrior (like Sion)
Hemomancy + Enchanting = Blood Enchanter
Enchanting + SunAspectWorship = Solari Priest
Gunsling + SwordMastery = GunWarrior (like Samira)
ChemTech + StreetHandCombat = ChemFighter (Like Sevika)
MoonAspectWorship + SpearMastery + Enchanting = Lunari Warrior Priest
Fairymance + Psychokinesis(or whatever) + Taming = Fairy Enchanter (like Lulu)
Stealth + MarcialHandCombat + Shadowmancy = Shadow Assassin
ChemTech + Enchanting + Engineering = ChemEnchanter Engineer (Like Samira)
I know this would be a huge task to balance, but I think it would be much more fun to play over the traditional classes and skill trees.
sounds like elden ring.
If Ursine will be a playable race/class, Soda would definitely like to play as one.
I mean the closest thing to a shapeshifter class is the shaman (since it's based on Udyr). Which is the only class I'm interested in playing tbh
17:28 "No dwarves or elves here. Runeterra is simply trying to be unique in every way."
**Proccess to have primarily Humans and Furries everywhere.** Yeah I've never seen that in an MMO before.
ROFLMAO
In league of legends (and most mobas) there's usually 6 classes. There's tanks, fighters(warriors), assassin's, mages, marksmen, and
support.
It would be more interesting that instead of classes there is a set of talents you can choose by combining race + starting region.
Just make them in a way that some are cooler than others with broader appeal. Thats a good thing that should be aimed for.
They could potentially do classes like lost ark where you get base classes with subclasses for like warriors you get blade master or beserker etc etc
seems like the best thing Riot can get inspiration from is Guild Wars 2. the weapons that you wield will influence what skills you have. with that you can have a shitload of different classes without having trouble with player models too much.
The #1 race in Riots mmo:
Sexy ladies in skimpy outfits.
They can make the class system like Path of exile. Where if you take warrior you can spec their skill tree into which region warrior you want
Kind of funny the lore of Yi talks about AP Yi getting erased :(
Expansion of the classes can definitely take notes from Maplestory in terms of being able to change throughout your progression
on the darkin and ascended topic: riot could (in theory) say that the darkin can designate some people and give them darkin-like powers (blood magic).
Theoretically:
New expansion, darkin raid boss
darkin raid boss uses his blood magic to control people and contort their bodies
after the first clear/with the expansion, new class is unloked
special class: darkin follower/darkin smth
starts at lvl 30 or smth (like dk from wow)
they used to be controlled by darkin raid boss but managed to free themselves/were freed
they retain their contorted bodies and blood magic and can use it like a hemomancer but more melee combat focused (think kayn's left arm. If he threw rhast away, he would still retain his darkin arm because he has already been corrupted)
I think this could work (if they wanted it to)
@@lordwiszniewski4857 sure, its another alternative. Hemomancers being a more mage class who have a blood magic darkin form which goes melee could be a cool class
The darkin situation could definitely be a Illidan situation where we can have mini darkins or people corrupted by darkin blood
The sentinels of ligth is more o guild or sub class than a class... Because inside their ranks they have rogues, figther, hunters, duelist, clerics, etc i imagine u can be a warrior per example and then u became a sentinel and that give u new anti- undead skills
I wanna play demacian poppy with paladin skills and blue/silver spells
Path of Exile has one of my favorite class systems, you can create any variation of class you want, and easily allows for hybrids of all sorts, it would be amazing for a game like League lore wise, and then make region pride an armor thing empowering your abilities and you could even have region specific skill gems like PoE does. Also PoE has kind of shapeshifting. Here is how you do it: You become a Chieftain and use totem magic. It is close enough.
they could do guild wars 2 esque custom story, so a warrior can be a mageseeker or a warrior class can be an enforcer
I'm gonna play a yordle and nobody can stop me.
Only one I can really think of for Assassin would be Smirmisher, the more survival type rogue, but Striker exists in TFT and could be the ninja and more assassin-y rogues.
building into talent trees to like construct your own class would be badass. hard to balance, but badass
"He stabbed someone wielding the aspects power so hard the aspect of war died" Holy moly
on the subject of making sure all armor fits all the races and variants, i have this weird feeling Riot's mmo will have preset clothing, the look will just change if its level 10 gear or if its level 50 gear.
They could do class, race and affiliation for each region. The affiliation of country changes your subclass
12:15 , I think there is a easy work around for the boots problem. In league Cassiopeia has a passive that gets rid of boots and gives passive movement speed, maybe a similar method could be used.
at this point training an ai to customize a default template armorset to fit whatever race and body shape would be worth a lot
I leveled a horde character and transferred one to an alliance dominated server. It's amazing how bad people get at pvp when it's so.
Ionia is a continent. There's multiple races in Ionia, Vastayan, the assassins, the Wuju, while they are Ionians they are their own Racesor at least their "Fighting Style" changes who they serve in their respective continent.
4:38 lmao won't forget first time i seen a horde spamming shit I could read thinking wtf am I tripping
Garen is the only demacian mage and I won’t have it any other way.
never played FF and only played wow but i feel the FF class route would be better, have generic classes but then tons of sub paths which are tied to the various zones
if anyone remembers that game Rift, i think that would be a great system for classes in this game.
mage and weapon wielding should be the only class, skills just varies depending on which region. just my opinion
i think it would be cooler if you could create your own class via something like a big skilltree.
PoE
Shout out to that 1 person in chat incorrectly saying how old every champion was to try to make it weird
People should not expect too many class/races in the release.
League already has Assassin, Fighter, Mage, Marksman, Support, Tank that they could just reuse to categorise classes to keep things simple.
5:24 that king looks exactly like GigaChad
I think this is much more interesting that way...
i saw necrit posting the video -> waited for soda to react to it to finally watch it :)
Some private servers have had cross faction play for years now, that's what you get when the decision-makers are actually passionate about what they're developing.
a lot of the art comes from legends of runeterra, the card game
Im really expecting them to take the champion approach to classes which is an already established character that u can customize. think maplestory or elsword(im not saying this because this is what i want btw im saying it because its a hell of a lot more realistic than trying to make every class in LoL possible in every race)
Literally just talked about it to a friend today, that I am waiting for a proper pve moba-like game
Riot could do the most with this game if they make their mechanic systems unique from other games. All the different skill sets he mentioned could be usable in the game somehow. Their's always a way to include everything and just make the overarching system unique in lots of ways.
That way it's more DnD-esque and a better, deeper RPG overall.
race and origin as the only character customization would be enough i think. cosmetics being according to what class you have would fix all the problems with what you look like. class and skills being extremely limited to where you originated would be awesome. that would feel extremely immersive. having no levels with skills and weapons being according to questline drops with rng involved would be what would be an awesome thing to implement although i doubt it would be like that, i played aqworlds post hype and the levels are capped so everyone you see would be the same level except with different class ranks and equipments, still grinding so much to get the new class they are reaching for, in this case, a skill being hidden behind questlines would be a good avenue riot could take, along with that exclusive equipment only available in questlines that have exclusive buffs. aqw have incredibly tedious quests that fit the MMO vibe being grindy if riot could do it tastefully. aqw is a shit mmorpg but they did the quests rewards good with locking classes and equipments behind those, if paired with awesome content, combat mechanics and story it would be perfect
They have to add engineers that would be soo cool
I hope they make either a dragon class or a cool archer class.
Im surprised he didn't mention shifters. You have Elise, Nidalee, Shyvana. You can obviously do much much more other than cat, spider and dragon.
yea shifters should've been a class 100% I'm sure he just got lost in the sauce with all those champions, but let's be honest, who wouldn't? xD
Shape shifter would be hybrid classes like elise - nidalee
I would forever love Riot if they let you build your own class. I feel like that's something that FFXIV gets close to and WoW has the possibilty to do, but never will yet it feels like such a huge MMO concept to do
how did ffxiv get close to that?
Unnecessary overcomplication that will lead to a never-ending nightmare of trying to balance shit. No thanks.
classes wise they would probably copy Everquest or Everquest 2 Class wise
( guardian, berserker, monk, bruiser, shadowknight, paladin, ) just tanks ) lol
( Inquisitor, templar, warden, fury, mystic, defiler, channeler ) just healers )
( wizard, warlock, illusionist, coercer, necromancer, conjuror ) just mages )
( assassin, ranger, swashbuckler, brigand, troubador, dirge, beastlord ) just scouts )
Respawning is canon only for Yordles
Can't wait for sodapappi to play riots mmo in 2086
this guy has really good ideas about what an RPG is like. I do like how he also acknowledges the MMO mentality.
I love shapeshifters too. Ooovi-kats or Nidalee's race would so dope if they're included.
I wan't a build your own class model. Choose a weapon and use skill points to select what you want for your build.
It's called minotaur
Instead of having specializations, Riot should include a bunch of class options, but only allow them one role to play.
Neeko doesn't really shapeshift, she clones others. Also Shapeshifter is a race not a class.
Riot mmo does need a lot of classes and classes combinations in my opinion
Factions are fine - the easiest thing to do is to make all server transfer free and for pvp servers only, force a worst case 60-40 split. pve servers dont matter.
oh its the League guy
*lore guy
Necrit, youtube's League lore guy.
