Since my sophomore year I wanted to try pole vaulting but during that year is when covid hit and we didn’t have a season sadly.
Fast forward to my junior year I asked my coach if I can pole vault both of them said no. 1.) Because we didn’t have a coach for pole vaulting 2.) I was needed elsewhere on the team to help them get “points”. Well if you wanted points put my in pole vault where we’re missing out on points! I thought to myself.
Now it’s my senior season and those two coaches resigned. And I went up to the new coach and asked again and he said yes excitingly. First time I felt like I had a role on the team from that point forward.
Even tho I still didn’t have a coach I watched hours of TH-cam videos and filmed every jump until I can physically could see progression. I am very happy to have had the chance to jump so please enjoy the video of me learning to jump.
    Thank you!

Welcome to the 10 foot club. There's something special when hitting that height. It was amazing when my 2 top vaulters hit that mark. Being that they are seniors this year. We are at the half way point of the season and having our last home meet this Saturday. We are looking to clear 13'6 to 14' at this meet if everything goes well. So i'm glad you got to do a sport that is so awesome that it's like a art form. Coach B.

Thanks coach, it was very difficult for me that season so hitting 10 was a big accomplishment. I didn’t have a polevault coach so I’m all self taught and you can see how bad my form was when I started off. I stayed two extra hours after practice every day to work on it. Watching TH-cam videos for technique and bothering the other teams polevault coaches on meet days 😅. They were all supportive and helped me get to where I got too! Good luck too your seniors

@@bradenneeson1961 It is hard. I currently coach other athletes from other schools that have the same issue. No coach. But we all come together as one Pole vault family. And hitting 10 is awesome. I just gave out at our last Home Senior meet, 10' plus club 3d printed award on that day and gave out 9. Athletes from other schools said they never heard of a such thing. i told them this was in honor for our seniors and to all to hit the magical number of 10 feet. It was pretty cool. My 2 top boy vaulters qualified for the Florida Gators relay meet coming up this Friday. So awesome and sad that i will be losing them after this season. :-)

I’m 56 years old...I did over 400 vaults last year. Two times I got my eyes up to 18 feet. 10 times up to 17 feet. Most of the time my head gets up to 15 or 16 feet. Ten years ago after a 30 year break from vaulting I got over a ten foot bar at age 47. In 1983 in 10th grade in my first track meet I got over 10 feet sitting down. Two years later 1985 I got over 14’ 9 1/2 “. After vaulting all summer in my backyard... started in the front yard ...ran between the houses and turned right when I got to the backyard.... Never quit dude...be thankful you found vaulting.... it’s pure fun no matter how high you go

@@bradenneeson1961 I just see how much you enjoy it from your video. I just want to let you know that it can continue after school. It’s very healthy and good for you. You don’t even have to compete. I put it in the same category as surfing. People surf for the pure joy of it.

I'm 82 and did over 10 feet in 1956. I can't remember the number exactly. This was with a Swedish steel pole, before they started using fiberglass. Always wanted to try a glass pole. I graduated in 1960. I would still like to try it. At the time I think the record was around 15 feet. Enjoyed the video. Thank you.
