+Arrowdodger I'm positive Ness feels the same way. When you talk to Pokey in Ness's imagination (in Magicant), you can tell that Ness just wants to be friends with Pokey and wants Pokey not to be so sad and angry all the time. Pokey is really the greatest tragedy in the game and I'm so sad he doesn't find any resolution. If he's in Mother 3 again, then I will just hope for the best and see what comes of it...
Lauren the Flute This really does seem like the kind of game/series perfect for you, but maybe I associate it with you anyway due to your perfect version of Pollyanna

Because Ness was surrounded by so much goodness, he understands the importance of family and friends, and he has a solid, unshakable base no matter what else happens because he can trust other people to love him and care for him. Pokey can't believe in love. The only thing he knows and believes in is fear and violence. He is a victim of abuse who falls into the cycle of abuse -- he jumps on the opportunity to be the one causing pain because in his mind, in his experience, in his life you are either the one who causes pain or the one who is in pain. It's his way of trying to control his life in the only way he can understand. Meanwhile, Ness is so full of love that he even has love for Pokey, which you can see in Magicant. +Nyah Senai I don't think I will ever be any sort of famous, but I've had so much fun meeting new people this way! I'm always happy to see your comments :) I would be a little afraid to step into Starmen.net because it's a whole established community that I have never met, so I don't know what is okay to talk about there and what isn't. But maybe I will drop by and see if I can figure out their culture and how they talk. (Entering a new community online is always a little bit nervewracking, since I never want to make mistakes and upset anyone.) So far the Undertale community seems to have a lot in common with the Earthbound community. Not surprising! I'm having a lot of fun there, too~!
Lauren the Flute Hi! Sorry for the late response. I don't believe you'd have any sort of trouble if you visited Starmen.net. It's all friendly people over there! :D Give it a go!
I don't think he's the most terrifying for me personally, but I can see how he would be for someone else! Especially if you played the game as a kid. I think he's a good and interesting evil force, scary and not human, and so he works very well in Earthbound. For me personally, I'm more terrified of human evil like Luca Blight or Kefka.
Fair enough. I've seen grosser and more disturbing bosses, like the Broodmother in Dragon Age: Origins and the Human Reaper from Mass Effect 2, but Giygas paints a picture of something EXCEPTIONALLY SCREWED UP. Giegue became so evil-minded, hateful of everything, and hell-bent on revenge that his own power overwhelmed him, transforming him into a sentient, near-mindless maelstrom of pure evil (I always thought he looked like a demonic hurricane or mist more than anything, despite people saying he is incomprehensible to describe by human standards). An all-mighty idiot reminiscent of Azathoth -- Giygas, the Embodiment of Evil -- had replaced the visage of Giegue. Pokey gave Giygas the means to accelerate his ascension to full power by creating the Devil's Machine, and he reached full power within it, finally being released by Pokey upon this culmination, and sought to sentence all existence to darkness. The weak would die off, and the strong -- the Starmen, the Shamblers, the Demons, his numerous minions, and his right-hand Pokey -- would survive to carry out his whim as he became the god of evil and destruction. Giegue was gone. Where a somewhat feeling alien who loved his adopted human parents had been, there was only a vortex made of psionic energy, unyielding power, and irredeemable evil. And the worst part? Giegue died that way. He died not as himself, but as Giygas. He died a monster without chance of being saved. He was destroyed... and he perished living as something he wasn't. He died without honor, a gibbering gaseous mass that could only think to destroy... a slave to his own evil. And he died that way. Poor Giegue...
EDIT: If I had waited about 30 more seconds to write this, I would have known you immediately find out that it's canon! hahaha 1:56:51 I know it's been 8 years, but I'm only just now getting around to this playthrough! I'm sure you have probably found this out after 8 years, but it's been confirmed Tony is canonically gay and in love with Jeff! They're really cute together in my opinion. So to answer your question, I know at least Mr. Itoi definitely ships them! Loved this playthrough so much and I'm moving onto your Mother 3 playthrough! If you somehow see this comment on an 8 year old video, then I just wanted to let you know how hard I've been smiling throughout the end of this. PS: Love the Paula cosplay and the art! I don't know if you drew them or not but the art on the webcam is a really great style to draw the Earthbound characters in!
Thank you so much for all of this!! Yes, those little doodles of the characters were my art, and I sold buttons of them at conventions for a little while, which gave me a great excuse to connect with more Earthbound fans. I've tried to draw some more serious artwork from this game but stalled out on it. The characters are so cute! Earthbound was the first game I ever streamed and I'm so glad I did, because it was an excellent introduction to streaming and to the Earthbound/MOTHER community!
After rewatching this stream, I suggest you play Yume Nikki, a free indie game that’s up on Steam & is less than 100mb, knowing that you’ve likely never heard of it, it’s the perfect blind playthrough...at least, I think so, & the game is so criminally underrated that it’d be pretty hard for any of it to be spoiled for you.
Franklin Badge might be dirty after the trips under the swamps. Ew! There's also a video called "Fighting Giygas for the first time be like". I recommend it
@@LaurentheFlute Well, pokey himself said that Giygas is no longer capable to even think rationally, it's doomed to eternal suffering and evil, that's why the power of friendship and love hurts him, at least i think so. amazing gameplay btw! you are so cute and i really like how do you feel and express your emotions
I came across your playthrough because I was in the mood for a blind Earthbound run. The first two players I tried were either too lazy and vulgar, or too annoying--but you gave a sense of joy and wonder to your playthrough, so I decided to stick around and watch. I personally feel that Earhbound is overrated, but a great game overall. I have another game recommendation for you: Journey. And of course the soundtrack is magnificent.
Ah! I'm glad that you enjoyed watching. This game is so weird and charming, I'm sad that people are vulgar about it. I think it really deserves to be approached with a sense of childlike wonder. I have played Journey! Many years ago. It's a profound experience and the soundtrack is remarkable.
(106:14) GIYGAS IS STARTING TO DESTROY EVERYTHING!!!(110:24) HES TURNING UP THE HEAT!!! HES DESTROYING THE UNIVERSE, RUN!!!(111:28) wha... everything's normal again...
for some reason, this episode keeps freezing and going soundless. this is like the 50th time ive tried to get it to work. i closed everything else and still not workin. the furthest i got was up to the point where your going back to restore after a bunch of guys died
+balloon villager I've heard people talk about it before, if it's what I think you mean. It seems strange to me, but the whole thing feels incomplete. Is Giygas the one begging for help and saying how much it hurts? If so, why are we fighting him instead of helping him? What happens at the end? I don't know, and I want to know. I've been thinking about it all night and all morning since I beat the game...
Lauren the Flute well one of the theories is that giygas is giegue from mother 1, after being defeat he tried to be more powerful but for that he needed to forget about everything about kindness, even maria his adoptive mother, so that's how he become giygas, also that's why before you fight him the devil's machine has ness face, but that's not ness face its actually Ninten, he is just similar to ness. There's still many things about mother 1 but thats the theory
another one is that the reason why giygas say things like "it hurts, I'm happy" its because giygas is based about a inappropriate movie that mr.Itoi (creator of the mother series) watched as a kid (accidentally). That movie traumatized him because it was about a murder/rape scene. also giygas 3rd form you can actually see giygas with a form of a baby/fetus
+balloon villager Oh, you're right, it is Ninten, not Ness! I wondered why it looked like Ness but not *quite* like Ness. That makes perfect sense. The rest of it is still a little confusing to me, but I've heard part of that story before... it's a bit complicated. I wonder if we'll ever get the full story from Itoi?
Lauren the Flute I hope so, the only thing confirmed about giygas is that he is based about the movie itoi saw, like a nightmare about it but the fetus thing its just a coincidence, but it makes a lot of sense giegue is giygas even if its not confirmed
Also, I know this is off-topic, but were you still considering doing a Steven Universe song? I think you'd do a great job at Strong in the Real Way, for one. :)
+Arrowdodger I've had several requests for that! I really want to finish my cover of Stronger Than You because it's the best song in the series, but ... I'm a much better fit for Pearl than anyone else (she and I have the same voice type) so I've thought about that one, too :)
+Jason Nguyen I do know Chrono Trigger! My sister and I played through it a few times when I was a kid. I haven't played it all on my own before, but I think I know it pretty well. There aren't very many JRPGs from the 16-bit era that I could do a totally blind playthrough of like this, unfortunately. But CT is a really, really good game. (I'm streaming Terranigma now and I've played that before, too, but that was kind of accidental and it's new to some of my viewers!) Are there any other games that you'd like to see me try? Or do you think it would be fun to see a game that I know? I really don't know what people would like to see...
It is indeed! Never played a moment of Earthbound before it. Unfortunately, the first stream is lost forever, but the game was blind the whole way through :)
I was really put off by the marketing campaign for Earthbound when I was a kid, and I saw the art and heard the music in college and really thought it wasn't for me! But eventually my friends convinced me to give it a chance as an adult, and I'm glad they did because I love it now. There are a few other old games I've meant to try a blind playthrough of, since there were definitely holes in my gaming experience growing up...
Man, Lauren is awesome, I really enjoy her reactions to games like this, but JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, her mods are a pain in the ass. I wasn't even in the stream, I'm only watching this right now on YT, and they still made me pissed. No one: Lauren's mods: LAST WARNING YOU GUYS, ONE MORE SENTENCE IN CHAT AND EVERYONE'S BANNED!!!
We had some problems with one mod in particular who wound up being removed from the community, if that makes you feel any better. I ended some streams in tears because I was upset with the modding. It's been a work in progress. I also established pretty quickly that I don't look at chat at all during end-game sequences or boss fights, which helped a lot! And we've got a spoiler-full channel on my Discord server for people to backseat at each other to their heart's content (I have that channel muted so I don't hear any of it). GGCrono is actually one of my mods now, and he does a great job! He understands why people backseat (since he was one of the most egregious backseaters in the early days of my stream) so he's able to quiet the backseating with compassion :)
@@LaurentheFlute Ah, that's good to hear! I understand that backseating and spoiling might be terrible for the streamer, but an excessively severe modding can be just as hurtful. Sorry to hear you had so much trouble in that regard, Lauren. Glad to know things are better now. Keep being awesome! :D
Hahaha, it's certainly not for everyone ♥ I can't help being the person I am and the player I am. What inspired you to watch the whole thing if you didn't enjoy it? There's so many people out there, I'm sure there are plenty who would make you really happy to watch!

Just for the local museum curator, so he'd let me go in the sewers under his office and fight a diseased rodent... -.-
+Nyah Senai I don't think I will ever be any sort of famous, but I've had so much fun meeting new people this way! I'm always happy to see your comments :)
I would be a little afraid to step into Starmen.net because it's a whole established community that I have never met, so I don't know what is okay to talk about there and what isn't. But maybe I will drop by and see if I can figure out their culture and how they talk. (Entering a new community online is always a little bit nervewracking, since I never want to make mistakes and upset anyone.)
So far the Undertale community seems to have a lot in common with the Earthbound community. Not surprising! I'm having a lot of fun there, too~!
Lauren the Flute
Hi! Sorry for the late response.
I don't believe you'd have any sort of trouble if you visited Starmen.net. It's all friendly people over there! :D Give it a go!
i know i said this before, but terranigma! terranigma! terranigma!
As a flute player and someone who has *tried* to cover this song on flute, I can say with confidence that it is really difficult.
thank you for this series. glad you liked the game. on to ur undertale and mother 3 playthroughs.
I cry every time I beat the game too :(
*reads title* this gonna be good
Oh my god it's really INSANE
You can't scape the true form of GiYgAs!
Giygas definitely messed with my final stream. :(
if you ever play mother one, youll find out the tragedy behind giygas behavior
Hey, Lauren. What did you think of Giygas? A lot of people say he's the most terrifying boss in all of gaming, and I have to agree.
EDIT: If I had waited about 30 more seconds to write this, I would have known you immediately find out that it's canon! hahaha
1:56:51 I know it's been 8 years, but I'm only just now getting around to this playthrough!
Earthbound was the first game I ever streamed and I'm so glad I did, because it was an excellent introduction to streaming and to the Earthbound/MOTHER community!
you should really mother 1 at some point, its great too and really helps explain whats going on with giygas in this one.
2:42:20 I once prematurely used the button and got the "No problem here" pop up when i was in front of Ness's Nightmare
That might be the best misplaced "No problem here" message ever.
@@LaurentheFlute haha i knoww also wow thanks for the reply! Your channel is awesome :D
@@LaurentheFlute For me, the best one was in front of that sign in the desert that read ''DRUGS''.
I sit in chairs with my legs crossed too!
as much as at Level 99 is the maximum Giygas still manages to screw up your party
This video needs more likes
Yay, GranStream Saga mentioned again! Love that game ❤
WOW, your voice is goodness
After rewatching this stream, I suggest you play Yume Nikki, a free indie game that’s up on Steam & is less than 100mb, knowing that you’ve likely never heard of it, it’s the perfect blind playthrough...at least, I think so, & the game is so criminally underrated that it’d be pretty hard for any of it to be spoiled for you.
Franklin Badge might be dirty after the trips under the swamps. Ew!
There's also a video called "Fighting Giygas for the first time be like". I recommend it
“I would be your friend if u asked gegus”
do you think giygas is even capable of processing a thought?
I don't know! We don't get a lot of information...
I finished this game only 3 days ago
yanny the flute amirite up top
*slaps five*
If you have a DS or 3DS, you also owe it to yourself to play The World Ends with You. If not, it's almost worth the price of a used DS on its own.
Oh! One of my friends loves that game. I would really like to try it... I wonder if it could be streamed.
is journey the one with the little kids walking?
Lauren! I Like How You Dress Up As Paula! 💖
Thank you! It was a fun costume to wear (but my goodness is that a giant bow!)
Anytime! ;) I Think I’m Going To Wear It For Halloween! 🤭

something funny if you put a ost of cave of the past and put subtitles on it says laughing and creepy stuff
I think it’s just a metaphorical fight against yourself and it’s kind a like the end of the butterfly effect

Aerin Lockeadon the power of Giygas :O
Looking sharp!
An hour on the giygas fight?
Man, I beat that one first try easy!
Then again there was the music
I don't claim to be a speedrunner :) I am very slow!
Lauren the Flute Yes, but still I was very underleveled, and wasn't the best. Still though, you did really well.
+Yamikaizer- Let's Plays and More! IKR I beat him at level 40
hes pretty easy if you have aoe psishield.
I beat it in 2 tries
I wish there was a way to unswirl giygas
Just curious to see what it really looks like.
How long would an unswirled giygas be?
why? it looks like mewtwo.
This song to me is the best boss music ever!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻 this song is my ringtone
Poky put giygas in devil machine to be protected
1:12:47 WHY DID THE SING CHANGEEEE?????????
wonderful stream yesterday, also have you read the creepypasta/theory of what giygas is?
The dad call happened to me too
Was it this surprising to you too? :)
Giygas: *gets wounded*
Music: *p I a NO*
Also, I know this is off-topic, but were you still considering doing a Steven Universe song? I think you'd do a great job at Strong in the Real Way, for one. :)
+Arrowdodger I've had several requests for that! I really want to finish my cover of Stronger Than You because it's the best song in the series, but ... I'm a much better fit for Pearl than anyone else (she and I have the same voice type) so I've thought about that one, too :)
Lauren the Flute
That'll be pretty awesome too. I hope you have fun, whichever song(s) you end up doing, and of course Stronger than You is great
Oh look, *a goddess*
Poor Giygas! 😢

and suddenly cat tail
sorry too soon?
She likes being on stream. Attention cat!
nox has a return appearance in the sequel :)
If you have the time you should also stream chrono trigger if you haven't played that.
(I'm streaming Terranigma now and I've played that before, too, but that was kind of accidental and it's new to some of my viewers!)
Are there any other games that you'd like to see me try? Or do you think it would be fun to see a game that I know? I really don't know what people would like to see...
well, theres tons of awesome games from back in the day. im sure someones first experience with any of them would be interesting to watch

EARTHBOUND 🗿🚬
Soy un comentario en español de nada :3
Is this playthrough blind?
It is indeed! Never played a moment of Earthbound before it. Unfortunately, the first stream is lost forever, but the game was blind the whole way through :)
+Lauren the Flute That's pretty sweet. Usually don't see blind playthroughs of older games like this.
I was really put off by the marketing campaign for Earthbound when I was a kid, and I saw the art and heard the music in college and really thought it wasn't for me! But eventually my friends convinced me to give it a chance as an adult, and I'm glad they did because I love it now. There are a few other old games I've meant to try a blind playthrough of, since there were definitely holes in my gaming experience growing up...
like?
Lauren the Flute on a scale of 1 to 10 how scared were you fighting Giygas
Man, Lauren is awesome, I really enjoy her reactions to games like this, but JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, her mods are a pain in the ass. I wasn't even in the stream, I'm only watching this right now on YT, and they still made me pissed.
No one:
Lauren's mods: LAST WARNING YOU GUYS, ONE MORE SENTENCE IN CHAT AND EVERYONE'S BANNED!!!
Wow, you look cute in Paula's ensemble!

Plz! Do UNDERTALE!
Ugh! I finally watched it all. This was the most annoying playthrough ive ever seen!
Hahaha, it's certainly not for everyone ♥ I can't help being the person I am and the player I am. What inspired you to watch the whole thing if you didn't enjoy it? There's so many people out there, I'm sure there are plenty who would make you really happy to watch!
