I grew up in Blackburn and Blackburn Transport had dozens in my schooldays of the 1980’s. My only regret was never buying one when they were being replaced. No. 110 PCW110P was my all time favourite. I used to have many a hellfire journey to school and back on these beauties. This video captures the glorious sound of the Atlanteans beautifully. Thank you 😊
great video nice to see an ex Plymouth machine still in service as one of the last Atlanteans i rode on her many many times - if your interested in preserving similar Atlanteans ATK 154/61W or knowing more about Atlantean preservation today Plymouth City Transport Preservation Group have 11 of them !!!
This is the best atlantean sound Ever!!! Almighty thrash and some nice scenery too. Really would like to eventually own a bus like this. Thanks for puttin' this up :)
It cannot be denied that the Leyland Atlantean was an 'old woman's bus' even when first introduced in the late 1950s, but I have to agree that it was much better than some of the rubbish we have today.
I too miss the Newcastle busways Atlanteans, lovely old reliable buses with character, I was dismayed in 1996 when they were all retired. Nearly all the modern ones are not a patch on these. Bristols are nice too (VR's and RE's).
Leyland Athlantean's rare as hens teeth ?. I live in Leyland, Fishwick busses still run 3 of them in regular service, Usually on the school ./ college runs or on there main route between leyland and preston , the 111
Nice! Don't think I've seen any here in Dublin since the first year or so of secondary school in the early 1990s. These, and the Olympians which I seem to recall disappearing around the same time, were much more comfortable IMO than the Bombardiers on my local route.
The Enviros in the toon at the mo have a wee bit of character: like the Novocastrian Atlanteans they are 10m long handsome sprightly beasts but sound like subdued Bristol VRTs. But they do no not roar, are not yellow and their staircases are the right way round. Shame..
carnt beat atlantians as the guy sed music to my ers to the warrigton atlantians had the same soumd bute i preferd the eastlanks ones frome the erly 80s to me gust most gorgus bus to grace to the streets sadley i whose too young to remeber them at thire peek in warrington onley rember seing the last few in service before thay went in 2001

Nice to see an old beast still in service bring back the old buses s they're often better than some modern ones!
Takes me back to when Atlanteans ruled the Busways fleet up here in Newcastle. Happy days.
Beautiful sounding bus! A couple of the gearchanges were nearly straight through as well, nice!!
Great sound from one of the best buses. Many thanks for this!
It's so good to hear an old Atlantean again
Such a Beautiful sound these were when buses were buses and comfy to ride on as well

I cannot beleave you can still get a Leyland Athlantean in service in 2010. They are as rare as hens teeth! Great video..
Fantastic, most favorite old time bus, love the engine noise. Just brilliant.

Brilliant soundtrack! Takes me back to the eighties in Liverpool, commuting up from town to Plessey on the 6c/40 route.
Beautiful!

Is that leyland atlantean open top bus still standing or not?
Just thought I'd let people know that this bus is on Ebay at the minute

Especially in pairs ;-)
I like that moan with the powertrain.
Sounds like a 690 engine?

What happened to all the Fishwick buses when they ceased? A sad sad day 😢
@@philwignall6714 I think most of Fishwicks running fleet towards the end were hire vehicles and not owned by them.
The interior suggests this bus is originally an edinburgh Atlantean
Gary this is not an Edinburgh Atlantean, all of the ECT/LRT examples were Alexander A/AL panoramics. This one is ex-Plymouth.
british leyland did build qualitay
