    COMMON QUESTIONS:
    - Why are you so orange? I do not fake tan, it's the filters on my camera and they can sometimes turn me warmer than I am depending on the light, although I am quite tan naturally in person (I'm Italian)
    - Do you bleach your own hair? HECK NO, my hair dresser does it all 😅
    - How old are you (were you born in '83)? I was born august 3rd 1994 (currently 25), the "83" in alexasunshine83 is for 08/03-83! Basically alexasunshine was taken 😬
    - Where are your vines from? Amazon 👉🏻 * go.magik.ly/ml...
    - Where's your bedding from? Urban Outfitters 👉🏻 * go.magik.ly/ml...
    - Why do you thrift? To stop my consumption of fast fashion due to the horrible treatment of workers and the negative environmental impact of waste fast fashion produces. I recommend the documentary The True Cost 👍🏻

I say go back for the yellow one, soak it in oxiclean (the yellow is probably mostly age) and then collab with a sewing TH-cam to alter it to exactly what you want!

If it's silk, don't use OxyClean!! It dissolves protein which is what silk is comprised of. It will ruin a silk garment.

I am just slightly surprised you never thrifted for a wedding dress before. I accidently found mine in Rome, it's 90 years old, and I have it for like, 4 years now, waiting in my closet, for "the one". For sure saved me a lot of stress :))

Try on everything you find! ALL wedding dresses are altered even/especially NEW ones. For a $60 price tag, you are way ahead of the game. A seamstress can remove or shorten the train, shorten the length, bring in the bodice, adjust the neckline, fix the fit of the sleeves... basically make the dress custom to you. BTW the wedding dresses you are trying all have been fitted once already so if something seems off that's why. It's super rare to by one off of the rack.
Please try on all of the colors. I'm curious to see you in a blush gown. So excited for you 😊 and I can't wait to see more wedding dress videos. 🧡🧡🧡

I cried a little when you didn't get the rainbow jacket.
Also, thrifty girl tip: I just got married and wanted to have a sustainable dress but I found it really hard to thrift one! What I ended up doing was going to a traditional dress shop and once I found one that I loved, I looked it up on Ebay and was able to buy the same exact dress used and I saved myself $500!

They didn't even say it was a small business though? The majority of bridal/formalwear shops are large chains now a days unfortunately. Supporting small businesses is great but frankly most people can't afford a "wedding dress" anyway. The wedding industry is a scam anyway. So respectfully get bent 😂.@kerryday

I didn't buy a wedding dress for myself when I got married. I found an adorable dress that I could re-wear and have probably worn it a handful of times now to special events. Even if it's thrifted, you'll still only wear it once if it's a proper wedding dress so I say, find a dress you love and will reuse! Looking gorgeous as always!

You could always try a resale shop where people “sell” their dresses to the business and they then sell them! That’s where I got all my high school dance dresses and they had so many one time worn weddings dresses as well! (Not sure if that’s sustainable but could be an option!)

Many people are commenting on how "yellow" the first dress was. But this color (which I would say is more of a soft gold) is not due to aging but has been a popular color among brides for quite a while. Pure white dresses did not enter into fashion or popularity until around 1840 and before that gold was a popular color among royals and the elite class.

So glad you are thrifting or vintage-ing your wedding dress. My relative just paid $6thousand for her dress alone. There is just so many items you need when you set up a house like a house itself! You are being more mature and financially responsible. In the 1970s I paid $125. for my dress. Since then, four brides have worn it then I donated it. Money well spent. I wish you luck and thanks for letting us tag along. Hugs Donna 💒

I purchased a vintage 40s wedding dress from Etsy for $100, and I love it so much, and am so happy with it. Whenever I show pictures of my wedding to anyone their first comment is always to compliment my dress. There are also a lot of Etsy sellers that have a return policy if the item doesn't fit, in case that's what your worried about, but I tailored mine before the wedding for a perfect fit, so don't stress too much about the fit, cause it can always be altered. Or if theres a part you don't like or want changed, like removing the train, or shortening the hem so it can be a midi, all of that stuff can be done with a good tailor.

  • @lindseymarshall2782
    @lindseymarshall2782 4 ปีที่แล้ว

2 things! If it’s too big it’s really easy to get it altered for a reasonable price, if you don’t like a specific part of the dress but everything else usually you can change it really easy at a tailor ( removing the train etc)

Congratulations! Hope my experience helps you choose your special dress. Yesterday I finally hit the weight that I was when I got married 24 years ago, so I tried on my wedding dress, which I made with the help of a friend. It wasn’t fashionable at the time and it isn’t now, but I looked and still look so timeless (and, to my surprise, then and now, fantastic) in it. I chose a style to suit my figure and I still would choose it today. I look back on my wedding photos and yesterday’s with complete satisfaction. Of course, what counts even more is the loyalty, love and unselfishness that you both put into your marriage, but hey, enjoy getting ready for your wedding! It’s a wonderful time!

About shoulder pads, length, fit (baggy, a little tight) you can always make a change! So if you see a dress you really like, you should get it! About getting the dress to its original color, you should see a professional (especially if it's silk or anything fancy) but you should also consider the price for the cleaning service, if it's worth it (but again, wedding dresses costs a lot so probably it will be worth it).
And like you said, thursdays (week days) are the BEST days to go to thrift stores!!!

I am personally not a fan of modern styles so I went to a vintage wedding boutique and they had so many amazing dresses from so many eras! I tried on dresses anywhere from the 20s to the 80s, and ended up with a beautiful dress from the 50s that I am so in love with. Good luck! You'll know it when you find it.

It was a small, at home shop and the owner collected the dresses from all over Europe and sold them for very realistic prices, mine was around 430 euro's. Would highly recommend it to every bride around the Netherlands looking for a sustainable, cheap and unique dress:)

I think it's very rare for any woman to find a wedding dress specifically that does NOT have to be altered in some way, whether it be hemming the length or taking the waist in, etc. Rarely do men purchase a suit and it fits perfectly off the rack.

At all of our thrift stores ...they have a special section for wedding dresses. I loved that cream one from the first store. You could alter it to not have a train and your length.

You should look on "Still White" online for second hand wedding dresses! I bought my wedding dress for under $200 and it retailed originally for over $1000! They have some dresses ranging under $50!

If you find two dresses of which you like the top and/or the skirt part you can consider buying both and then create The Dress from the other two. They sure have to be matching white shades

I love this video! My cousin actually thrifted her wedding dress from a goodwill (roughly 8 years ago) and I was her Maid of Honor. To this day, her dress is still one of my favorites I’ve seen and I’ve been in several weddings. Thanks for sharing this and keeping such a positive light on thriftiness! You inspire me so much!!!! Love your outfit in this video!

another tip from me is if you find a dress that you like but the colour isn't what you want, you can bleach/dye it!

Try Facebook Marketplace, Ebau, consignment shops, Poshmark and Mercari. I yhrifted all of my bridesmaids and flower girls dresses and the tuxes for my ring bearers. Also you could try Rent The Runway for formal dresses. I wore a Bridesmaid dress and saved myself $600.

I don't know what your plan is, but you could always find a thrifted dress that you wish had more lace, beads, was shorter, etc. and bring it in for alterations. You could still get a nice thrifted dress and you could support a small business or local seamstress. :)

I got my wedding dress at the Salvation Army, brand new with tags, it was priced at $20, and with my 10% student discount, I got it for $18. It was a custom-made size 2 wedding dress that actually fit my height perfectly, and at 4 foot 11 that's an extreme Challenge, LOL. I had spent 3 years searching for a wedding dress, and all of the ones that I found in bridal shops and stuff would have cost me hundreds of dollars in alterations alone to make them fit. I literally spent four times as much on my two daughters' flower girl dresses as I did on my own wedding dress.

Really like the idea of thrifting a wedding dress! I never thought of that before I bought mine! I know it’s not a thrift/charity shop but I’ve seen some quite nice ones in TK Maxx before (I’m in the UK but in America I think you call it TJ Maxx) x

I got my wedding dress from goodwill for $100, it was beautiful(and still is) and It fit me perfectly! I didn't have to get it altered at all.I just got It cleaned!! I was engaged and out thrifting I wasn't even looking for my wedding dress I just found it and It was Like it was made for me.I came out of the dressing room to show my mom and she loved it and random strangers in goodwill loved it too.lol so...their is hope! you're perfect dress may be donated! I think its crazy the price people pay for brand new dresses! My prom dress cost way more then my wedding dress did.

Also remember you can get the dress tailored and/or a slight design altered if you find something that you love but just needs those little tweaks!

That was a good start. Do take a friend to help zip, hook, lace up or button. An honest opinion helps too. Every time you thrift check what they have too. Look for 2nd hand wedding boutiques on google! But those will be expensive.

My mom actually thrifted her wedding dress back in 1997 (due to my parents not having much money) and though it was a hideous, off-white floral thing, she still kept it for nearly 18 years for sentimental reasons.

That first one with the ruffles was soooo beautiful on you!! You could get it altered if you want!! My local thrift stores have a plethora of vintage wedding dresses and I know it's weird of me but they always make me kind of sad, like I feel bad for them sitting there all by themselves 😂🤷‍♀️

Try antique stores for wedding dresses.... they may only have a few and you might have to go through booth by booth, however a lot of the ones I have seen in antique stores are absolutely beautiful and in very good condition and the prices are relatively cheap as well as I've seen some wedding dress from the 1940s that were anywhere around $40-$80 and it also doesn't hurt to ask if they will go lower on their prices (I've done it before and most times they have not always though) as not everyone is into antiques or used wedding gowns and if they want it to go they will usually give it at a discounted price... maybe even try looking for resale shops which sell in wedding/formal gowns and if you love one in a different size you can always get it altered as well, if you have some near you.

You could always have your dress altered. I bought mine new and had to have it altered a few times. You could also add sleeves to a strapless dress. I would have a professional do it for you. Just some ideas. I can’t wait to see what you find 😊
