Way to go! I did the same. Walked into the Faire, saw an outfit on a mannequin I loved, walked into the shop and said, "I want that. All of that." 20 minutes later I walked out fully kitted and started my love of Renaissance wear. Been many years collecting pieces, including Moresca, so now I have several character outfits. You are totally LOTR elf. 🥰
I swear, damn near every time I ask somebody at Faire where they got their clothing items, they say Moresca... Which would be great, if they still vended at the one I go to! **cries in rennie** 😭💔
If you’re on the smaller side I also recommend getting a kids/youth bodice. I got a kids L at the Colorado Faire for I think 50ish bucks (can’t remember the specific price but it was way cheaper) it’s one of my fav bodices and is also reversible!
I got a cloak for older kids/teens and somehow even though it was the exact same length and width and everything as the women's one it was a lot cheaper. Had a more elaborate closure as well and the fabric wasn't any different either. I still don't know why the hell it was cheaper but I'm not complaining.
Other items too: my mom is petite and got a boy's pirate shirt because the men's were just too big for her. I got the teen size petal overskirt from Ophelia's because it fit better and still stretches to like 34"; same quality as adult size and cheaper.
@@DieAlteistwiederda there are exceptions, but in general children buying stuff for themselves tend to have less money to spend than adults, and adults (parents in particular) aren't willing to spend as much on something their kid loves unless that thing is either "useful" or something the adults themselves also love. So pieces made for kids tend to be cheaper because the seller is choosing between "sell with a smaller profit margin" or "not sell at all". Note: things for kids are *cheaper*, but not necessarily *cheap*. There's plenty of good quality stuff. And also plenty of expensive, out-of-budget stuff too.
I love the shopkeeper standing in the background @ 10:38 smiling while watching you vlog; I can tell she really knows how much you know about and appreciate her artistry!
I believe she is at the Texas Renaissance Festival, it is Todd Mission, TX. It is an amazing place and a great place to spend the day. It runs through the beginning of October and ends the weekend after Thanksgiving.
It is! My best friend got married there several years ago (in the ivy-covered pavilion she's posing in front of at the end of the video), it's a lovely and very welcoming faire and the best wedding ever.
@user-cf2vo8sc1n Really, gatekeeping isn't cool. "a shadow of the experience" is a problem of you failing to enjoy what is there. I can tell you that even having never been in the state, much less that particular faire.
@@andyespenan5919 Great. Best weekend to go is Halloween weekend. I'd say 60-70% of people dress and you see all kinds of cool stuff. And them temps are usually lower by then so you can wear something that doesn't work in warm weather. I like to go as a dragon as kids love dragons.
As far as I can tell (with a very brief scroll down and Ctrl+f), no one has commented it. So fyi, the shoulder piece is called a spaulder! It could also be called a pauldron. Rule of thumb seems to be that pauldrons are bigger than spaulders, and more likely to be plate vs leather, but in common use the two words are often interchangeable. In my mind, I always called the ones like you got spaulders and the great big shoulder pieces you see on most WoW characters pauldrons.
I love this! My renfaire outfit started with a single piece that i really loved and that I've been building around for years. Now I've made it a habit to buy one single piece that goes with my costume at every renfaire I visit.
That's how most do it. First year just go and see and enjoy. Maybe find a piece or two you like and then continue to work it. I have several outfits now and really love TRF.
Lovely! Unicorn Clothing is where I got my first outfit, about 25 years ago, and I still go back every year to pick up new pieces and see what they’ve released. Their tie dyed butterfly skirts and pants are a year round staple for me.
Years of faire-going, I can tell you nice loose pants would *not* be too hot to wear in the heat...and I live in Florida and used to go to the Georgia faire (April thru 1st wk of June) where 85 is considered a COOL day. In fact, do yourself a favor and get yourself a good pair of knee length bloomers to go under the skirt. SO much more comfy in the hot weather. Truly, it's sunlight on your bare skin that makes you hot. The one year I decided not to get all kitted up and just go in shorts and a tank--something I hadn't done for 10 years--I absolutely ROASTED. I hadn't gotten much sleep the night before, which is why I decided to go "casual" in street clothes because it meant I didn't have to leave for faire until 45 mins before rope drop, so I could catch an extra hour of sleep. The next morning, I put on my bloomers, chemise, underskirt, overskirt, and bodice, and I was seriously so much better, even though day 2 was hotter than the first one. The nice cotton gauzes most of us make our faire garb out of are much more breathable than the modern poly-cotton blends and denim we usually wear.
I LOVE the hair braiders. Always my first stop and I map out how to get there first so I’m early. I have long, thick, fine hair down to my waist with natural highlights and one time I told the hair braider “Do whatever you want.” She was overjoyed and I left with the most BEAUTIFUL Rapunzel-esque braid
I’ve been adding to my Renaissance faire costume collection piece by piece over the years, I like that a lot is mix and match, so I have options for different looks, a lot of my blouses are either thrifted or found at target, you don’t even have to spend that much as long as you have statement pieces that can work for a lot of looks and good bases and accessories. I think that’s why I love renn faire costuming vs regular costuming, I feel like I get more use out of my purchases because I use them for more than one shot
Oh yeah. But the variety depends on which one you go to. The Maryland one is big like this with built in shops. I'd heard of the Texas one. Other ones will still have corsettes, armor, and clothing. They just won't have this breadth of options.
Im So glad you had such a great time putting together your outfit! Ive worked TRF off and on since 99 and was happy to see you shopping at some of my Fav shops! Thank you for doing such a Great job showing how people can find a fun outfit on a budget!
For future reference those long billowy products as long as their made of a natural fiber are actually much more cooling then for instance a short sleeve shirt. They keep the sun off your skin which lowers your temperature and wick sweat. I know it seems counterproductive that long sleeves and pants on a hot day would be cool, but it really is cooler so long as it’s a natural fiber.
Love Boss Wench! Got my whole pirate outfit from them minus hat and bucket boots and other leather accessories. Really enjoyed your video showing support of the businesses at the faires!
TX Ren Festival is fun for those new to faires. I spent many a weekend there over 10 or 15 years span, but quit going in favor of smaller, less commercialized faires. I know people hate when others talk about how it "used to be"...... and this festival is no exception. They used to have chariot races and full contact jousts that drew huge crowds. Then there was a bad accident (someone was killed by a flying chariot wheel) and that was ended and the jousts stop going full contact.
This was incredibly fun to watch!! I want to do something like this but with a Viking inspired look! That would be SOOOOO much fun! You look fantastic!
Your before look reminds me of a lvl 1 beginner character and your final looks is rocking a max level character haha. You definitely powered up along the way!
Fun to watch you narrate your shopping and decision-making, love the outfit! I do wish you'd gone with the first headpiece tho, the pointy one with the gem - it made you look more elven / LotR and fit your face well. Maybe you can add one like that next year...
I love how the shopkeeper where you bought the boddice gave so much info on how to properly take care of your purchases. There seems to be real heart behind the pieces you buy from there.
Oh my gosh! You are so pretty in your costume! I love Lord of the Rings and Hobbit, and you definitely look like a Mirkwood elf. And at 15:44 those sword skills? Amazing!!! I'm so jealous! When is it my turn to get stuff like that? You look so cool and elf like and the ears look so real! The circlet on your head also tied everything together and just added that touch of elf even more. Awesome!
Fun video, got a full view out of me. And I get that you went with a budget in mind and bought on the cheaper side for Ren. Not sure if affordable was the right word though. 😅
Brings back memories of my early days going to a Ren Faire. My first wife and I walked in and came out in costume (and in some debt-young and foolish as this was maybe 30 years ago). I wasn't sure if I' like tights but they felt good. Years later I still have my tights and my replica dagger. The shirt (classic billowy style) got pilferred by my second eldest step daughter and I haven't seen it since....
I flew down for that faire from WA Halloween weekend. I did die from heat exhaustion 😂 I'm not used to that weather. So many cool shops. I bought a LOT of stuff (I had to buy another travel bag to get all my loot home😂) my little brother lives in TX and takes his kids every year. This was my first time to TRF and I had an absolute BLAST! Your outfit turned out AMAZING! 🥰🥰🥰
No way!! I flew down there as well to camp out! I’m so happy you enjoyed it 🥰🥰 I definitely won’t go during a heat wave next time but even with the heat I still had fun
The outfit looks so good on you! I love the top, it was great decisions to get it instead the dress, cause it's just looks so much more flatering on you!
Fantastic guide! You look great in your new gear. No shade, you're wonderful. Offering a suggestion- "less expensive" and "more reasonable" trump "cheaper" only to flatter the vendor and not reflect the quality of the goods. But obviously, we all knew what you meant. Well done.
oh no I don't recall saying anything I purchased was cheap in quality, did I? I also mentioned I could've gone with cheaper items, but I would've sacrificed the quality of material so hopefully that wasn't misconstrued!!!
@@justlanchen- you didn't say anything was cheap in quality at all, what was mentioned is language semantics. You were extremely respectful of all of the vendors and their amazing work!
@@justlanchen That's the implication we try to avoid: that affordability means lower quality. Which is why it's best to avoid the word "cheap" altogether. Saying a vendor has "a cheaper option" is loaded with implications (even if you don't intend it).
“It’s hot out, so I don’t know if I’ll wear a dress” 7:00 … what material is it?! That makes all the difference! Is it a linen or cotton? If so, you won’t find better. If it’s some poly blend, depends on the blend!😭
I do production sewing for a living so I'm good at sewing. I don't make clothes too often but now I'm determined to go to renfaires again and make my whole outfit.
I liked your thought process when buying something, especially how you tried to get things that you would wear again and repeatedly outside of this video instead of just doing it for the “haul” or “content”. So often with these kinds of shopping videos I wonder if the person if ever actually going to use the things they bought irl or if they just get that one use for the video and that’s it
As a person who loves costumes, this was a very fulfilling video for me. I've always wanted to shop a whole costume at a faire, and now vicariously I got to shop at a Ren Faire! Thank you!
100% I wear stuff like this quite often now, I love it🥹 life is too short to not dress in what you want haha. Also, thank you! I’m much better with a light saber but the sword is fun too🥰🥰🥰
I've been saving up to get my dream set from my local ren fair. I'm super excited because I can fianlly get it after two years of saveing, well 3 seasons of their fair now, but it's finally gonna be mine and I can bring my little raven to life!
maybe I can go ther one day. it seems like a better deal than Disneyland! it is however a long way there, I am danish. maybe I will start making my own pieces. I do work in leather after all.
I am surprised the shoulder spaulder doesn't have a strap to go around your upper arm to help keep it in place. Easy to add one. Perhaps get them to add one next visit? I got into leather work from Ren Faire 2 years back. Finally starting to make some cool stuff.
I live in WV now, but I used to live in Houston and camped 3 years in a row lol. Fun faire! (Recognized the faire 5 seconds in, very distinctive parking lot lol)
So I pic a color theme and add to it until the outfit is complete and then start a new one in a different color it makes the experience so much more adventurous
Texas also has the Scarborough Renfest which I highly recommend. And if you don't like crowds, the faire is pretty empty on Sunday (due to all the locals being in church the vendors informed us when we asked) compared to the Saturday which was packed. Renfests I have atteneded so far: Arizona (one two-day weekend): the aesthetic looked odd in the desert locale but it is a large faire and had a lot of unique shops and entertainment Bay Area in Florida (six times): smaller but has great shows and shops. The chess board show is especially entertaining. And they have a mermaid! In a tank! That speaks dolphin! Bristol in Wisconsin (six two-day weekends): large faire, very pretty, has unique events and a pirate ship! In the water! And now real washrooms. Highly recommend! Colorado (one two-day weekend): large faire with plenty of entertainment and shopping but the site is on an incline which not only means a lot of walking up and down but that also creates rain-washed cracks in places so walking parts of it can be quite challenging. And painful. Georgia ( two two-day weekends): smaller but its shops are more varied especially when it comes to home decor, has the best food I've ever had at a renfest and is very pretty Kansas City in Kansas (one two-day weekend): lots of great shops, I so want to go back Louisiana (one two-day weekend): very small and site needs investment Michigan (more than thirty times): large faire, excellent shows, unique shops as well as the typical fare, has more of a gritty look and feel, and is my personal favorite Minnesota (one two-day weekend): large faire and was loads of fun Ohio (five two-day weekends): has grown substantially over the years and is now as entertaining as the the larger fairs like Michigan and Bristol. Definitely Recommend! Scarborough in Texas (one two-day weekend): have to wear a sticker to purchase alcohol but had great shows, shops and street players as well as being very pretty. Highly recommend! Texas (one two-day weekend): it is the largest renfest in the USA and wonderful chaotic fun but had a lot of repeat shops with 'made in china' products
My mom got a full set at one of the shops super discounted because we went on the last day of closing weekend. It was such a steal! She still has it and it’s so pretty. She also got an amazing black cloak with purple satin lining for half off. Too bad it’s sooo hot in Texas lol.
As someone who has desperately wanted to do this (or rather, wanted ONE PIECE) but balked at the prices…you have inspired me to try again now with expectations of prices and a budget to compete. 😂
Love seeing the level-up. Looks great, though I imagine the tiara being made of a different material like hemp with flowers or leather, skipping the leather shoulder, and wielding a dagger instead of a sword. Seems almost like a rogue look.
From the number of people on the camping row (and seeing the couple on the next row packing up) you must have gone shopping on Sunday. I hope you found everything you needed. BTW I was the Santa at the bonfire.
Having dabbled a tiny bit in leathercraft.... i realized i could make those bracers you got..... for cheaper... edit... on another note, excellent job with your ren faire outfit!
Very nice, the outfit came together beautifully and looks really good on you. My Renfaire starts in 3 days so excited..Flarf in S. Fl. One day I will get to TRF.
At the end, it gives level 1 to level 45! All those pieces are really cool! I definitely would've gone for the pre-set outfit, but where's the fun in that? XD the whole outfit looked amazing!
Wow! Its so weird watching this because i go to this Renfest every year!(Though, i go in the winter because i find it more enjoyable) I almost never see videos on my fyp from places that i go to all the time or have seen in person! I'm just watching the vieo like "oh look! I know that place! Oh! I know that vendor! Yup, shop there evey year!" Im having too much fun
You are awesome. I went to my first ren fair with a friend from work like 20 years ago near charlotte, NC and got hooked instantly. Then continued going multiple times a year first with my wife ( wasn't her thing ) then with best friends, then with my 5yo son, then with son & younger daughter after my divorce, just completely falling in love with the whole experience. I kept going every year for like 15 years straight all to the same one in Concorde, NC which I would say was pretty big and too much to properly take in in one day bc of all the amazing shows and the jousting would be 3 times daily but all different shows progressing in intensity to the final joust to the death so you kinda had to go to all 3 jousts to get the best experience. anywho, I've been living in another country for the past 5 years with my son and daughter and mother where the ren fair does not exist. I found you last week and fell in love with your ren fair vids and looked up all of them and made them favs so I can see them all in chronologic order. oh no I don't recall saying anything I purchased was cheap in quality, did I? I also mentioned I could've gone with cheaper items, but I would've sacrificed the quality of material so hopefully that wasn't misconstrued!!!
@@justlanchen- you didn't say anything was cheap in quality at all, what was mentioned is language semantics. You were extremely respectful of all of the vendors and their amazing work!
@@justlanchen
That's the implication we try to avoid: that affordability means lower quality. Which is why it's best to avoid the word "cheap" altogether. Saying a vendor has "a cheaper option" is loaded with implications (even if you don't intend it).
You did such a good job putting this together!
Thank you😭🥰🥰
0:10 “affordable” lol. So looking forward to this. 😅😂😂
“It’s hot out, so I don’t know if I’ll wear a dress” 7:00 … what material is it?! That makes all the difference! Is it a linen or cotton? If so, you won’t find better. If it’s some poly blend, depends on the blend!😭
Honestly, under $400 for what you got, that’s a freekin steal. Good job. You look amazing. ^.^
I lived on Houston for 20 years. I miss TRF so much!
I do production sewing for a living so I'm good at sewing. I don't make clothes too often but now I'm determined to go to renfaires again and make my whole outfit.
I can tell by the parking lot in the very beginning she's at TRF!!! My home away from home!
I liked your thought process when buying something, especially how you tried to get things that you would wear again and repeatedly outside of this video instead of just doing it for the “haul” or “content”. So often with these kinds of shopping videos I wonder if the person if ever actually going to use the things they bought irl or if they just get that one use for the video and that’s it
This is so inspirational because it’s like treating the ren faire like a thrift store and making an amazing outfit all on ur own
Really, you look so beautiful and the music at 15:38 with the sword skills is soooooooo cool!
thank you! I live for useless skills like sword spinning, but I just want to be a lady night so bad 😭😭
@@justlanchen Or an elf warrior?
Enchanting yet Dangerous Elvan Maiden. Well Done. 😎
Love TRF! We go every year, but I never get to shop, so this was fascinating to me.
So happy you enjoyed it 🥰🥰🥰
My aunt got married here back in November. It was.. amazing. Like a wonderland of renaissance. I was overwhelmed with how much shopping there was
As a person who loves costumes, this was a very fulfilling video for me. I've always wanted to shop a whole costume at a faire, and now vicariously I got to shop at a Ren Faire! Thank you!
this is hyping me up for ren fest season aaaaa
If you are concerned about money, you DON'T buy your garb at a ren faire.
looks amazing! great choices it was cool to see it all come together
This has to be one of my fav ren faire outfits i've ever seen! I feel inspired!! 😍
🥹 I'm so happy you liked it!!
Now you just need a pair of Sandlar boots!!
They may break the bank but so worth it.
Oh yes!!
@@davidbaca7853 my wife and I have bought six pairs between the two of us and I am probably going to pick up another pair at TRF this fall!
For some more afforable mix n match piecesa try four corners and lost island!
Nicely done. You seem like youd be comfortable wearing those clothes everyday if you could. Nice sword flourish at the end too btw. Got some skills. 😉
So excited for you! I hope you are able to get it early in the season :)
Ah Boss Wench! She comes down here to Bay Area in Tampa Bay too! Good choice!
I KNEW IT WAS THE TEXAS REN FAIRE! I love this place, it’s SUPER expensive but totally worth just going to experience it
It's so good!
Oh helllll yes, you actually know how to handle a sward. And that's such a cute combination. ADORE!
maybe I can go ther one day. it seems like a better deal than Disneyland! it is however a long way there, I am danish. maybe I will start making my own pieces. I do work in leather after all.
I’m glad you chose the blouse! It looks AMAZING on you!!! Love the entire look!
I'm heading out to Scarborough this weekend 🧐 I want more ren-things
Wow 😮 the end results was amazing 👏🏽
TRF is a great fair to do this at. Love it
This is SO COOL omg!! I love it!!! Someday I want to go to a Renfaire dressed like a LOTR elf too!
lol went to TRF and walked out with my family tartan. Didn't even plan to go just happened to be in town and went for kicks and giggles.
Texas also has the Scarborough Renfest which I highly recommend. And if you don't like crowds, the faire is pretty empty on Sunday (due to all the locals being in church the vendors informed us when we asked) compared to the Saturday which was packed.
Renfests I have atteneded so far:
Arizona (one two-day weekend): the aesthetic looked odd in the desert locale but it is a large faire and had a lot of unique shops and entertainment
Bay Area in Florida (six times): smaller but has great shows and shops.
Georgia ( two two-day weekends): smaller but its shops are more varied especially when it comes to home decor, has the best food I've ever had at a renfest and is very pretty
Kansas City in Kansas (one two-day weekend): lots of great shops, I so want to go back
Louisiana (one two-day weekend): very small and site needs investment
Michigan (more than thirty times): large faire, excellent shows, unique shops as well as the typical fare, has more of a gritty look and feel, and is my personal favorite
Minnesota (one two-day weekend): large faire and was loads of fun
Ohio (five two-day weekends): has grown substantially over the years and is now as entertaining as the the larger fairs like Michigan and Bristol.
Boss Wench is one of my faves ❤ great pieces
I love the frilly sleeves with the leather armour! And that reveal was so cool!!
You would look great with dark or black hair as solid color pulling of the elf look. Earth tones look great on you.
I want that goddess dress you tried on at the start it was sooo pretty! The outfit is gorgeous at the end though :)
I enjoyed this so much! I've always wanted to do a one day shopping spree at faire. I love your final look!
You look great. Love your design talent.
Thank you 🥰🥰🫶
As someone who has desperately wanted to do this (or rather, wanted ONE PIECE) but balked at the prices…you have inspired me to try again now with expectations of prices and a budget to compete. 😂
Make your own!
Within seconds of seeing the parking lot I knew exactly where you were. Best childhood mems are at the TRF
Love the look you put together ❤️
THANK YOU🫶😭
Stunning as ever. I so would love to do this one day.
This hit my recommendation glad I watched it now I know what to expect when I go to ren fair this year ❤
You have an amazingly authentic and believable feminine elven look which adds so much to your ren fair vids. Don't know how or why the first video of you popped up but I'm so happy it did bc you are the next best thing to actually going to the renaissance festival. I miss going so very much. Sorry for the long comment but I'm just so excited. Thank you so much, please make more !!!!!!!
It is crazy but I honestly think I enjoyed every single video you‘ve uploaded so far - It even gets better every time 😄 Lovely outfit! I did not get your vision first but it came together beautifully 😊 you have such an eye for authentic and adventurous looks! ❤
You have amazing taste love the skirt, amor and sword ! ❤
You are a stunning elf 🧝♀️
Oh thank you!
Talk about a glow up! Went from villager to paladin! 😂 😎
2 Things I realized this week about TRF: it is one of the biggest and also it has been around long enough for my mom to have gone there in college.
@ 6:40 --- Everything looks flattering on you !!!
