As an owner of an AT Jimny having driven 4k+ kilometers and off-road trips on stock vehicle; City: over bad roads, small lanes and traffic it’s just smooth and nimble to go through them Highway: will reach 120 don’t push it, OD gear takes time. Cruise control good till 100 but above 110 it’ll constantly go to third gear to maintain speed, doing it yourself is a much better driving experience. Off-road: It’s very easy to do clear most obstacles, for tough ones I was not able give less power and kept overshooting the point I wanted to reach, however I was able to get out even as an amateur(had an experienced friend with me to spot). I haven’t driven MT can’t say much about it but the only place I felt a lack of power in my Jimny was on highways trying to overtake above 100, in every other scenario it just performs like crazy. I am an heavy footed driver and I’m able to get 12+ kmpl till now
That's a great share and contribution! Thanks 👍 Jimny MT is slightly better above 100. Until 100, it is a bit easy and it won't struggle much till 120.
Having driven ONLY MT vehicles of all kinds all my nearly 3 decades of fauzi service in a TANK Regiment, starting from Willys jeep to a Russian tank( where I sometimes needed help of both hands to engage VERY HARD gears),AT almost sounds ALIEN if not GREEK😂 No wonder,I went for an MT JIMNY in june 2023, without a second thought.... However,ur crystal clear analysis and flawless appreciation of both kinds( AT & MT) should and would certainly help new buyers in taking a right judicious decision before putting in their hard money on JIMNY,sales of which are depleting with every passing month despite all the jaggery of discounts being thrown in to further muddy the waters( of reputation of MS),if I may say so.. Congratulations to you for ur continued sincere efforts in enlightening us with ur regular masterpieces on important aspects related with buying, purchasing and driving of JIMNY. We are indeed blessed, to have u around. God bless U ❤🙏❤️💐💐💐
Dear Sir, there is a lot to learn from you indeed. I am just trying my bit and let's see where it will take me to. Many thanks for your continuous support and kind words. BTW, My father used Jonga when he was in the Army and I can never get into those experiences including yours. Thanks again for the encouragement. 😊🎉🙏🙏
Yes, you are absolutely right and you have well defined the advantages and disadvantages of both AT and MT. I have not linked it to Jimny. But in reality, while the market is rapidly moving towards AT in metro cities, it will take time in other Type 2 cities and smaller urban and rural towns. If MT and AT are close in Price then in most of the cases the consumer will always prefer AT.
Yes, I agree and this is one of the major reasons AT market is growing rapidly. If it is real AT but not AMT then it is definitely going to be much costlier as long as it becomes a default standard in the Indian market. Thanks for your contribution to the forum and support! 😊👍
Very informative video, and well explained. Looking forward for more informative videos. I have a doubt regarding the parking of my Jimny which I have commented in earlier video but confused by the answer. I own an Automatic Jimny where I park has a slight slope. I am really confused by the videos online that you shouldn’t park Automatic cars in Parking mode as it will damage the parking pin in the gearbox, and one should put in neutral and use handbrake then to park mode so the handbrake will take the weight of the car not the gearbox. Is it the right way to park automatic cars? Or should I simply put the car in park mode and use the handbrake. Which is the correct way to park my AT Jimny?
Deepak ji, thanks! For AT, park your vehicle in P mode, if parking for long periods e.g. for a week or above avoid using handbrakes. In slopes use P mode again, for a shorter period (for a day) handbrake is fine, for a longer period use big boulders in cross (one front and one rear) tyres which hold your vehicle effortlessly on slopes and saves brake shoes to stick to brake drums. Hope, this explains now. 👍
Wonderful review!! As u mentioned for hard offroading or using a trailer definitely MT is advisable. For occasionally if the usage of the gears is known then AT. Definitely for old time people, light footed mileage will be good. I would prefer an MT. In the city condition AT gearbox will get heated, also the oil change duration of 50k is advisable. Finally it's an expensive affair to repair the gearbox.
My dear, I love to see such a contribution to the forum. We all can collectively improve things with better collaboration. Thanks for your support and kind words 😊🙏
If you do not mind shifting gears and most of the time you are not habitual of using half clutch then go for MT. But neither of these are applicable to you then AT for more relaxing exp.
@@MashofreaksAuto I currently have a 9 years old i20 manual 1200 cc which sometimes struggles and falls out of breath on steep climbs and needs certain momentum build up in 1st gear in order to overcome the steep climbs. I'm interested in Jimny AT but afraid if the same unnerving experience gets repeated with the Jimny AT on such climbs. Kindly suggest.
My friend, you have a valid concern, before I really answer your question in detail, will you please tell if you permanently stay in the hills? Which location? Or is it occasionally you travel in hills? And how much load do you talk about climbing your vehicle? If you provide all these details then I can provide you with the best information, thanks! 😊👍
@@MashofreaksAuto no sir, I am an inhabitant of plains. But a number of times I take road trips either towards the Himalayas or lower down into Rajasthan/MadhyaPradesh. In either case the terrain is often unpredictable, rocky and uneven as the more beautiful locations are often more remote too. Ground clearance, approach and departure angles, good pickup and size of the car play the major limiting factors. However not more usually but certainly, the same factors play similar roles in plains too given the state and lanscape of roads here - crowded, skimpy and no parking spaces & a lack of empathy for other drivers. Yet my major concern is the uphill climbs and a popular opinion that automatic gearboxes underperform in uphill climbs.
@Fytttttd Thank you! That's great you explained it in that detail. A couple things we need to understand. By default, Na petrol engines are not that torquey in nature but AT got torque converter and which amazingly fill-in your lower gears, L and 2 with decent torque, if you did not get a chance then watch PART1, very much for your. I am not saying it can compete with diesel low end torque but it will work flawlessly and will do its job beautifully. Also, in a very rare case if you will feel like stuck in any such obstacle then you may engage 4H which will tell the Jimny, I am so powerful. You may also watch my power & torque video for insight. In nutshell, Jimny AT or MT will not let you down in those situations even though it is not too punchy. Let me know for more questions and watch these two videos in "Jimny Cookbook Series", I mentioned above. I will reply to all of your queries so do not worry. Hope, this helps! 👍
Very nice explanation sir Still confused between AT and MT City mileage is better in AT? I love driving.I have Taigun GT 1.5 manual and One polo tsi Automatic Please guide me
Sunil ji, many thanks for your support! As you drive both MT as well as AT, so you know the differences. Overall MT normally gives you a better fuel economy but in bumper to bumper traffic no doubt AT performs better not only for drive comfort and transmission life but also for slightly FE. But if your city has lesser traffic jams and a bit of comfortable traffic you may find better FE in MT. In nutshell, frequent gear change and high rpm kills the avg in cities. Hope, this explains to some extent. Please feel free to ask any further questions. 😊🙏
Right Sir and honestly, you are not going to compromise off-road capabilities. If you will not rush AT and regular services are done then it will support you for a lifetime. I would like to see your exp once you buy it Sir 😊👍
Thank you, honestly speaking we never need to replace the gearbox or transmission but to repair if mishandled due to some reasons. In AT, if handled, most probable is the torque converter which needs to be fixed.
Well, thanks for your contribution! Actually, gearbox is not going to go anywhere because TC is sealed so it has to be replaced either in India or abroad. That doesn't mean we are actually replacing the gearbox. But in the worst case scenario I totally agree with you where the entire system went down due to some mishappening or mishandling. 👍
@@MashofreaksAuto All these new AT gearboxes are sealed with no way to check oil levels and quality (ie. No dip stick). There is usually a procedure to do the oil change which is unnecessarily complicated but it can be done. I have successfully done this on my cars. It greatly improves the life of the transmission. I have observed cooler temperatures inside the transmission after oil change via OBD sensor readings. For Jimny 60,000 kms is a good place to do it. In India Automatic transmission fluid ATF degrades faster due to very high ambient temperatures. Remember oil is cheaper than a transmission!
Hmnn, this is another thing they have changed from 3 doors. Changing transmission oil is not difficult at all in 5 doors as well (probably a bit difficult for DIY), the only thing one needs to have is the small pump with the right quantity of fluid which ingresses by opening the upper bolt and that gives the access to check oil quality as well before we actually change it. If I am not wrong, TC is replaceable in 3 door AT tranny. That's a good discussion, have to check if TC is a separate part number within MSIL.
Rightly said, because the car computer is pre-programmed how to respond to speed and that comes from speed. Upgrading the tyre will produce speedo errors. In MT also same speedo errors but the gear changes are not programmed. However, in both cases, recalibration of ECU is needed to fix the speedo errors after tire upsize. Thanks for your inputs 👍
Don't quite agree with your opinion. For off-roading automatic transmission is much more useful as you can modulate the throttle much better, and you don't have to worry about burning up the clutch. Besides you have the manual override in Jimny's torque converter if you really want to go the manual route. During rock crawling, manual transmission can stall your vehicle. This is coming from a 2024 Jeep Wrangler and a 2016 Gypsy King owner.
Well, dear Vikram opinions are not necessarily to be agreed but possibly the choices. Because this buying decision is divided into two parts and made by keeping in mind novice also who possibly want to buy the vehicle not just experts. I said what I experienced by driving AT and MT Jimny extensively in hills and off-road situations in my day to day being it is a daily thing for me instead of going specially into offroad tracks. BTW, as you know, Jeep Wrangler is a way different vehicle and not comparable for the objective this video is made for. Again your contribution is valuable for the point of view you posted. Thanks.
@MashofreaksAuto that's a fair point. Please keep in mind, though, that my comment was purely from the perspective of driving on sketchy surfaces where one needs to feather the throttle. I guess it's different strokes for different folks. The video was quite informative, though. Regarding Jeep Wrangler at the very basic level, it's also a body on frame architecture with solid front and rear axles plus a low range transfer case. The only addition from an off-roading perspective is front and rear locking differentials and electronically disconnecting Sway Bar. I have driven the Jimny and hope to add it to my garage some day. I really like it and will take it any day over Thar or Gurkha. It's disheartening to see that a large number of customers do not understand or appreciate this beautiful vehicle. Thanks for the great content.

Completely agree with you regarding the mishandling of the positioning of the Jimny. The engine in my Wrangler (Rubicon) is a 3.6ltr V-6 with 8 speed automatic. I got it in July, it's not my daily driver, though. Having spent such a large amount, I don't know if I will ever put it through it's paces. So far, I have clocked 3,200 km.
