I did upgrade to the paperwhite signature edition in metallic jade. I agree with your thoughts that if someone is looking for better speed then it's worth the upgrade. I upgraded because of Black Friday and having a trade-in so it was "justifiable" for myself to splurge. I don't think I would have upgraded had there not been color options, that was a big selling point for me. The wireless charging wasn't something that tickled my fancy I still use a cable, I don't have room on my nightstand lol. In regards to the battery...I believe that it holds longer but the issue I'm having is the time between non-use and shutting down, it takes FOREVER! (not that I'm intentionally waiting....neurodivergent here...I get side tracked easily) on this new device and I can't find a way to change it. There is no sleep timer option.... I just charged mine I think Monday maybe Tuesday??? and it's already at 78%. I'm charging it now to 100% and see how long it takes and I'm going to try to keep track of how much reading time I get out of it and precisely the length of time it takes for it to turn off after non-use.

I know, I noticed that on mine that it just sits around for a long time - at first there was no option to change the sleep timer, but I noticed one appeared in settings when I was playing around for this video! Under device options click "sleep timer" and there's now a bunch when there weren't before! Interesting on the battery! Do you usually use airplane mode or just leave everything on? I'll be so curious to hear what you find!

@@SummerSayre I love the metallic. The best way I can describe it compared to the basic paper white is it kind of has a sheen to it, so it has a bit more pop to the color. As for device options...I do not have sleep timer...I don't know if an update is slowly rolling out or what it is. I did try and restart it without success. My options under device options: device info, software updates, date and time, language and dictionaries, privacy and security, storage management, whisper sync, power saver (which is only a toggle), restart, factor reset. And the battery- I leave everything on, always have. I don't loan from the library so airplane mode never crosses my mind.
Your issues with your Kindle reminded me recently that I went through something super similar. All of a sudden my Kindle Paperwhite froze! The screen wouldn’t respond, buttons wouldn’t do anything, I tried to reset it. Coincidentally this was also around the time the new Kindle Colorsoft was out and I was debating on getting one (and was watching your reviews 😊). Thankfully, no issues since then Your voice and how you speak is super calming to me. Love your videos!

I have the 2021 paperwhite and I’ve noticed it’s been really glitchy here lately. I probably will end up trading it in but I think I’m going to wait and get a colorsoft down the road. Because I love the color e ink there’s just something magical about seeing the pretty covers in color 😂
@@martikac.225 check what software version your kindle is on. I found that 5.16.21 was super glitchy for me. To the point where it was almost unusable,and I thought it was going to conk out entirely. I'm now on version 5.17.1.0.3, and it seems to be OK so far.
@@ursulaoelofse4731 I actually updated to that about a month ago using my computer. And while it did make an improvement I do notice ghosting and some glitching at times.
Have you updated your PW 11th to the latest software? You may have to plug it into your computer if it’s not automatically updating (mine didn’t). It made a world of difference with the glitching and speed
I wonder if it's something like what Apple does with their devices when a new one comes out. I have been seeing a lot of complaints about the older paperwhites. I see you're still reading The Paradise Problem; I still haven't got to it because I got sick😞. Thanks for the video❤
I wonder, too! I do need to check to make sure my agave paperwhite is up to date - I wasn't thinking when I was filming! But.. that could be it. It is connected to wifi so theoretically it should auto-update, though. I just finished it actually - and I'm in a bit of a slump over it! I'll talk about it in my December wrap up!!! @@SummerSayre sometimes I find it doest update on its own. Sometimes you have to do a manual update by connecting your device to a pc, downloading the update manually and transferring it to your Kindle. Then select update in your settings and leave it to update.
I have found the perfect Kindle trifecta for me: (1) 2024 Scribe; (2) 2024 Matcha Basic; and (3) Oasis 32GB 3rd Gen in Champagne Gold. I use all three everyday. I have small hands so the Matcha Basic (with clear sparkle case, stickers and PopSocket ofc!) is best for long-term and on-the-go reading; Oasis is very comfortable in the hand with a premium experience (but it never leaves the house), and the Scribe is great for note taking, is very thin and has the most paper-like look and feel. It has a huge screen that isn’t the best for long reading sessions, so I put it in a reading stand and use it with a remote page turner. Perfect for cozy in-bed reading during the night when I wake and can’t go back to sleep right away. Thanks for an informative video.
@SummerSayre I'm still iffy on the new kindles. I don't know. Seems like a lot of issues with them still. That said, I can't get hold of any of the previous generation kindles. It's like they have vanished into thin air. Bummer!
I kinda low key regret selling off my 11th gen paperwhite😅. Because my 12th gen paperwhite is very yellowish compare to 11th even with brightness and warmth 0. But it is faster than 11th and in pink😂
I love my matcha kindle. I did have the paperwhite 2021 but couldn't get used to the size of the screen. So I got the black basic 2022. But the matcha is so much faster and much brighter. Glad I got the matcha. Lasts longer too.

Quicker, clearer, bigger, longer lasting battery. Any bigger, and I will have to buy new handbags or revert to using Samsung Galaxy S6 tablet Now, the bit that really pings me off. The time of day is no longer displayed on the top of the page I am reading. I have to physically draw down to read the time. Until I switched over, I had no idea I glanced up to the time so often. But then I read at every opportunity, at least a book a day, while waiting for friends, planes, taxis, etc A minor irritant is the time out option of 5, 10, 60 minutes. So now I have to get into the habit of closing the book
Okay, I can't help with the bigger part, but I can help with the time showing on your screen! Tap the screen when you're in the book, then tap the Aa font menu. Then click "more" - it should show the "show clock while reading" option! :)

Didnt upgrade my kindle (have last years paperwhite) did get the KLC though may get the colorsoft when its available here

ok so for me, I had that happen with my nook, turns out it needed to be plugged in...so if it doesn't work just try plugging it in
